Why are people who can't be bothered to register allowed to post or start new threads?

Merged: Are threads purely for trolling OK?

Given how a certain poster has been posting threads which are created for no purpose than trolling, e.g. to claim that Brits p!ss on the toilet seat or that English teachers wash cars to replace their income, I'm wondering if such threads (started by 'guest' accounts of course) are now OK here. Are they? If so, would it be OK for somebody to, for example, open a thread in the business section asking why they, as an American of Indian origin, fail so miserably in shop keeping here (and in the USA) and what peculiarities there are about shop-keeping in Poland which might explain their miserable failures or why his fellow Americans all laugh at him?

Personally I'd far prefer that this forum doesn't allow pure trolling but of those threads are allowed, what sauce for the goose....

OK, now we know this thread has been seen by a mod (as it has been merged), could we perhaps have an answer to the question?

How can you be so sure that this has never happened? What do we do with posters who claim that most Americans live in their parents basements, or start calling members by other names in the public forums? Should we ban them too?

Fair enough Vincent. If the rule is 'if nobody can be sure it didn't happen, you can post saying it did', let's all live by that rule.

Although all it takes is a very basic knowledge of Warsaw to know that nobody who is a native speaker of English and a qualified teacher would work in car wash earning in a month what they could earn in a day, so yes I can be pretty darn sure that no English teacher in Warsaw has gone to work in a car wash to "substitute" their income.

I would guess there are teachers doing very well in Warsaw, but there are bound to be others not doing so well as expected. I'm thinking about the ones who come on here, with a 4 week course behind them, asking about extra work and charging low fees. Don't you think when their money runs out, they would be desperate enough to to do any job to stop themselves from starving? Warsaw is a big city, do you really know everyone who calls themselves an English teacher there?

I worked in ELT (mostly in management though I did always also do lessons) for 10 years and never came across anyone washing cars etc. Even the scummiest nomarks (I chose those words carefully) can usually get enough work to survive and in any case there's too much competition amongst unemployed locals for a foreign teacher to pick up work in a car wash.


The troll who started the thread seems to know about "most" of them:

Vincent, to work in a car wash, one would need to speak fairly decent Polish. A native speaker of English who speaks decent Polish will easily get a job that pays more than minimum wage.

Wulkan, yes, Warsaw Poland, where car washing is a minimum wage job.

Does Warsaw actually even have car washes anymore?

I don;t know of any around Kato or it's adjoining cities. All of them are self-service things now where you wash the car yourself with a power washer.

Merged: Members Posting as Guest-What's the Story?

My husband had to re-install Windows today so I wasn't logged in when he switched the computer back on. Tried to make a quick post as a guest and received a message that due to the 'trollish' and spam like nature of my posts (??????) I couldn't post as a guest and something....blah, blah, I would be 'banned anyway'. What?????????? So I'm in the same category as Ktos and a few other choice individuals. Thanks very much. Anyone care to explain? Thank you. 'blah, blah' - this part you missed, it explained the exact reason (it's not about you but the your ISP's IP).

Why should people register to start threads ? It's inconvenient. What's the benefit for me, as a user ? - your first question is void, doesn't apply to this site. The other two sentences are based on the false assumption.

Ok. Could you just clarify, is that because IPs can be very broad, rather than individual. For example if somebody living in my part of Warsaw had made trollish type posts then my IP could be affected? (yes ) As neither my husband nor myself go trolling around the internet or abusing people online I can't see why trolling or spam could be associated with our IP. Thanks.

Yesterday I visited the forum briefly during the afternoon and saw a new discussion had been started by member Ktos. 'Oh God', thought I, 'what's he banging on about now?'. When I clicked on the post, I received a message telling me that the discussion had been moved/merged as it didn't comply with rules etc and was advised to read the rules about starting threads?? Does this mean that for some weird reason your system thinks I'm Ktos? It's interesting that somebody sent InPolska an email supposedly from Ktos (but it wasn't) and now I seem to be mistaken for him. Extra weird as he apparently lives in Australia...........

No, this is exactly the same message that I get when a thread has been moved or merged.


If you read the thread about the alleged email again, Ktos was not accused of sending an email by the OP.

Yes, I was wondering why some users don`t register although they are quite active here. It is a purely neutral question out of sheer curiosity. I thought being an unregistered user is OK for one, two accidental posts but not for hundreds - it must be a bit inconvenient.

Besides, they have no access to Random section which is extremely busy and interesting. . Or am I wrong coz the rules have changed and they have this access now?

I have a bit of a problem...When I try to post on one thread it kicks me out...

Could you say which thread it is, and what is the message you get?

It was the false advertisement thread. It says no spam allowed and logs me out. After I posted on this thread I couldn't post anywhere anymore (besides chat but that doesn't matter). I might have been using public wifi yesterday (as I post from phone) but when it happened I was back to my usual IP. Today I have the option to post again but it did the same thing as yesterday. Most likely you posted a "banned" keyword that is on the spam list..

This problem is beyond my scope and it is best if Admin answers this one. One thing I do know is, to be very careful when using public wifi, they are not very safe and there may be all kind of unscrupulous people trying to steal your details. Try to use private wifi if possible.
