Yes. Someone I knew was in the vicinity as a young man and was traumatised by it. He died not long ago in his 90s. (and at 92 got married to a 30 year old!). A good good man, though we didn't always see eye to eye. He'd never really got over the horrors of war, and nobody could blame him or any other survivor for that.
