How independent from the Polish Crown was the Duchy of Prussia? I guess, it also depends on when, exactly. Which king was ruling etc. Can anybody provide some information?

Ducal Prussia was very independent from the beginning and during the Swedish-Polish wars it acted as if it not were the fiefdom of Poland. During the deluge they actually sided with the Swedes. then switched sides quickly when it was apparent that the Swedes are loosing ground.

So, I guess the Polish overlordship was only on paper and the Polish claims , that this area was ruled by Poland are unsubstantiated. Yes?

To be honest that's how it was all over Poland.
