Leon Trozer. Looking for Polish family in Poland.

I am looking for family in Poland. My grandad was born in 1925 and lived in a small village near or in Posnan. All the information I have is that his dad managed a butchers and he had a brother called Heindrick (not sure on spelling). My grandads name was Leon Trozer but we are unsure if he changed his name. He was taken to fight in the German army and ended up here in Scotland. He never spoke of the war or about Poland. I have searched the name Trozer but found nothing. I am really eager to trace any of his family or anyone that may have knew him. Thank you for any help.

No-one using the surname Trozer in Poland at present. Was your grandfather an ethnic Pole or a Volksdeutsch or Jew?

Thank you for your reply. I am unsure, I know he wasn't Jewish and as far as I am aware he was an ethnic Pole. I'm trying to rack my brain for other information I have. I heard from a Polish man in Scotland that when they went to fight for the German army they had to change to German names? I'm not sure about the truth in this.

I couldn't find a single name currently used in Poland starting with Troz-. The closest were such things as: Troszczel Troszczeński Troszczewski Troszczyc Troszczyniec and Troszek.

But unless you have something more to go on like another document listing his original surname, I'm afraid you've reached a dead end.

Thank you, I have just spoke to my gran and shes going to dig out his birth certificate. That will at least have his mothers name. I will message again tomorrow with more details for you. Thank you for your help. It is much appreciated.

Have you tried the LDS databases already? There are tons of Trozer on there; from the UK and the US, but also from Germany.

That's most likely 'Heinrich'.

Or maybe the Polish 'Henryk' name is a possibility.

From what i can make out his mothers name was czeslaw markiewicz. Couldnt read the writing very well though. He lived in baranowa, srem. His date of birth was 6 december 1925.

Czesław is a male name. The female form of the name is Czesława.


I think it is probably this village, Baranowo, which is near to Poznań:
