Polish nationality? Which of the following (if any) determine being Polish.

So technically, you are already Irish.

Paper is one thing, your heart is another. The paper is Irish, but you, the living person, your blood is what your parents are. Depends also of how much genes you get from your Polish parents (if you are half Irish). There are also cases in which twins by a French and African parents are born, a baby was white the other black. One had all the genes from the mother, the other from the father. lmao So if you get at most Polish genes and do not feel in the right country, you can easy go back to your origin. Maybe you can make a dual citizen? I don't know if this is possible in Ireland?

completely assimilate into Ireland and Irishness, and you're pretty much there.

Yes if your parents don't keep any cultural links with their country you're pretty much there. If you never was in Poland, have no proud Polish parents, you go Irish.

You said the PolAms should leave Poland alone.

Your children are probably not very proud of their Polish blood, they feel very American and if you're the only one in the family who wants to visit Poland, you can't move to Poland yes you're right.

It's nice you are proud of your Polish heritage, but you are really not a real Polish because you are so proud to be American and therefore think it is the best country to live, at most, you call America the greatest country in the world. And think of all Poles are jealous of you because you live in America. I visit America and I would never want to spend my future there. You never was in Poland so why can you say America is the greatest country? I think your heart is American, a real Polish should say Poland is the greatest country in the world ;-)

listening to Americans you may start thinking that the world is still turning around only thanks to United States.

True dude, true.

Yes I have to give you right grubas.

This may evnetually change, perhaps even by mid-century, but for now, despite the inroads made by China and India, it is still the USA, not wimpy Europe, that makes the world go round(to paraphrase 'Cabaret')!

We'll really be back in our groove once we ditch the Commies we got running things into the ground now...

As soon as we ditch the main problems, socialist health care in the form of Medicare, trim up the military, and bankrupt social security, we'll be on to something. The CATO institute recently outlined where the majority of that worthless spending is going.

You are retarded, indoctrinated and brain washed American

I beg your pardon, I am not retarded. I graduated as the salutatorian of my high school class. In case you don't know what that means, I had the second highest Grade Point Average in my graduating class of 550 students. I have a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois and a Master of Science degree from Northern Illinois University. I also graduated with honors from both of those prestigious universities.

I don't like to brag, but you force me to do so with your ridiculous claim that I am retarded.

And now I am also an "indoctrinated and brain washed American." Geesh! I cannot be proud of my Polish heritage, and now I cannot even be proud to be an American!! I am a woman without a country!

<pretending to sniffle>

And spare me this "greatest country in the world, the land of the free and the home of the brave" propaganda BS.Will you?

As for "the land of the free and the home of the brave," that is not "propaganda BS". I was only quoting part of the American national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner":

O! say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

And think of all Poles are jealous of you

No, I don't think ALL Poles are jealous of Americans. Only grubas.

listening to Americans you may start thinking that the world is still turning around only thanks to United States.

What? You mean it isn't???!!!! Just kidding!! LOL :-)

But they weren't from Poland. Most Polish-Americans really, really struggle to grasp this - there was no Poland for them to have been from!

Poland existed it was just occupied and controlled by three other countries. If it didn't exist Poland would not exist today. Poland is more than just its borders. I am currently living in the Us. but I am still proud of my heritage both on my father's (Polish) and my mother's side (Irish). Because my grandfather was born in Russian /occupied Poland that makes me Russian...I don't think so.

Ultimately, to be Polish, you need, at the very least, to be a citizen and be able to speak the language. I wonder how many Polish-Americans would serve the Polish state in a time of need? Not many, I bet.

Well first of all it was against the law to do so. I am second generation American. I say American because I am an American citizen. Does that mean that my heritage is not Polish and Irish. Your heritage and history do not just fall off the map (excuse the pun) because you move somewhere else. My father at one point spoke Polish but I never learned. I wish to but it may prove to be difficult as my wife nor the rest of my immediate family don't either.

Ok ,now I exactly know who you are.You are retarded, indoctrinated and brain washed American.(Just to make it clear I know for sure that NOT every American is retarded or brainwashed).

Curious to hear about some of the cons you are refering to especially the going down hill quickly part ?

I mean if it is not that great why live here?

I was also curious about your friend and his tattoo. Are you referring to the falcon on the Polish flag or the American fraternal order of Polish Falcons that my grandfather was a member of?

Are you referring to the falcon on the Polish flag

FYI, it is an eagle, not a falcon, on the Polish flag.

American fraternal order of Polish Falcons that my grandfather was a member of?

However, there is a fraternal organization called the Polish Falcons of America:

polishfalcons.org

Is this the organization that your grandfather was a member of?

Grubas, why don't you do your homework before you answer questions on the forum?

From Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Poland

In practice, however, this restriction is often ignored and the two flags - with and without coat of arms - are treated as interchangeable.[3] The variant with the coat of arms is particularly often used by the Polonia, or Polish diaspora outside Poland, especially in the United States.[10]

Blood most definitely. People who are simply born in Poland are are of a different ethnicity aren't Polish, just Polish born. To be really Polish you gotta look it, speak it, think the way a Pole does. Polish born people of other ethnicity when they find out they are something else embrace it, as if they knew, felt they're different from they're Polish counterparts. Also them foreign born Poles, Poles of Polish descent are different, completely differ in mentality.

FYI, it is an eagle, not a falcon, on the Polish flag.

Thank you for the correction. I was referring to the bird on the Polish Falcon flag which I assumed was a Falcon. Oooops. And thank you for the information provided as most Polish flags I have seen were just white and red.

Is this the organization that your grandfather was a member of?

Yes . He was a member back starting in the 1930's. I still have the bayonets, he used to march in the parades with.

Blood most definitely.

Funny you should say that because I have spoken to several of my cousins, whom were born and raised in Poland and they say I remind them of my second cousin ,Stefan, who is currently living in Poland. My father also says I often remind him of my grandfather in many ways.

I mean I am sure in many ways we are different being brought up in two totally different environments but you can't say I am not Polish because I can't speak the language. I mean what is the point of this site if we can't converse intelligently about our history and heredity and help each other to discover more about who and where we came from.

These arguments always end up to confused to be useful. People argue about what it is to be "Polish" when some obviously are thinking of nationality and some are obviously thinking of ethnicity or heritage. All are different things and not interchangable.

I am PROUD of my Polish heritage.
I am PROUD that my father survivied not only Siberia, but all of the fighting he did with Drugi Korpus Wojska Polskiego; and moreso each time I hold his Medals in my hand.

I am PROUD that the country of Poland, that has been treated like a "snow globe", that has been torn apart, shaken, dissolved, and reborn again and again, is still breathing.

I am PROUD of the fight for freedom from Communist control; and moreso because it allowed my father to return home for the first time since 1940.

I am PROUD to see the economy of Poland remain resilient and vibrant while most of the rest of Europe quivers.
I read recently (and I cannot find the article to quote it) that people, all people, of Polish decent are the PROUDEST ethnic group.
So, I say to all of you......be PROUD to consider yourself POLSKA.

Laugh at those that insult you, but smile at each other.
Turn from those who try to harm you, but defend each other and hold each other close.
Shun the deviant, but cling to tradition.
And, pray for the souls who have left us,

Bóg, Honor, Ojczyzna

To be really Polish you gotta look it, speak it, think the way a Pole does.

How does a Pole look like?Elaborate please.
What is the way a Pole thinks?Do you reallly think 38 milions Poles look and think the same way?Now that's silly (to don't say dumb).

Too much pride makes people sick.

To much national pride is simply cheesy.

Can't have been too proud of the rendition of the SSB last night at KSW 14, LOL. That was priceless!

The fight was fixed. And even if it wasn't the only person who can be proud is Pudzian.I am so sick of Poles saying for example "WE beat the Turks at Vienna".WTF?None of them have been there at that time nor took a part in the battle.Besides how can someone be proud to be Polish,Dutch,American or whatever else? What kind of accomplishment it is?They must have nothing else to be proud of so tho they stick to this silly national pride like flies to a piece of crap.
