Jablonski from Skole, Stryj

Hi I wonder if anyone can help? During world war 2 my mother was engaged to be married to a Polish soldier who was tragically killed in the Falaise gap campaign in 1944. My mother has recently moved into a nursing home and I have discovered letters and photos of this young man (he was just 21 when he died) that i feel would be of interest to any of his remaining relatives. But how do I go about finding them?!His name was Stefan jablonski and his place of birth was Skole, Stryj, and I am rather confused - is this place still part of Poland or is it now Ukraine? Please forgive my ignorance! But if anyone out there can offer any advice I would be most grateful.

I think it's very noble of you trying to return those pictures to his family. A relative of mine was 25 (or was it 26?) when he was murdered in Katyń and I do remember that his wife (no longer with us) always hung on to his pictures and other articles that reminded her of him, even when she was very old. She never remarried always thinking one day he'd come back. His last letter to her stated he was held in a camp but everything was fine and he'd be coming home soon.

I bring this up only to say that these pictures could indeed be very important to his relatives. How to find them? Wow, many Poles were "relocated" to Siberia, the lucky ones were moved to western parts of today's Poland. Maybe you could write a letter to the local church? Hopefully they have some kind of records there? Good luck and thanks for trying to do the right thing.

Thank you so much to Wroclaw for the information (Skole, as I suspected, is now in the Ukraine) and to Skysoulmate for sharing the story about your relative and for the encouragement that your post gave to me. My family are completely perplexed as to why I am attempting to find Stefan's relatives after all this time, but I just feel compelled to at least try. The local church sounds a very good starting place. I found a recent photograph of Stefan's grave on the Polish War Graves website, and a rosary necklace had been placed on the headstone - which gives me hope that maybe there is someone out there who remembers him. I guess I need to now research dioceses of the Roman Catholic church in the Ukraine!

hi, i know its a while back since you posted this request, but maybe i have an answer. there is a site called Strony O Wolyniu where the photos and information would be most appreciated and can be view by persons looking for relatives, this is in Polish but you can translate to English and also as he was a soldier, Kresy-Siberia group which is in English would be most interested. hope this helps a little.

Their Mother was German, that's why during world war 2 Stefan went to Wermacht, and his sister has been sent to Siberia. This is how they have been separated. Stefan and Julia were very close, that's why his sister never stopped searching for him. Recently Julia received a letter from Lipsk with some information about her missing brother. But the letter has been destroyed by accident, and they lost their only clue. And then they found ur post. I was asked to translate it and reply u back. And i am sorry for my English, I am autodidact. They are sure that is their missing brother and uncle.
