Hello my name is Olivia Piskadlo-Jones.Im in the process of doing some family research and I'm trying to track down some documents and family members from Poland.Bassically both my Granparents are from Poland, they migrated to Australia after WWII under the DP persons scheme in 1949.

My Grandmother was born in Brodnica, her name was Maria Gortatowski. My Grandfather was born in Zyznow in 1912. Im trying to track down his birth certificate just wondering if anybody can recommend the correct office in Poland to obtain this information.I have contacted the archives office in Warsaw but heard nothing back.People have told me that I should check with the local churches in that area as they might have access to such documentation.

In regards to tracking down family members in Poland I have the names of my Great Grandparents. I know that my Grandmother come from a line of 13 brothers and sisters.Apparently I still have a lot of family in Poland and would love so much to track them down as I will be going to Poland next year.

I have set up a our details on ansestry.com. but Im not sure how usefull it will be.My Grandmothers family name was GORTATOWSKI,My Great Grandmothers family name was BIEGANSKA,my grandfathers family name was PISKADLO.If anybody can recommend some usefull sites or government offices to go through for this I would greatly appreciate it.There are so many sites out there and I would really appreciate some usefull feedback.Kind Regards,Olivia.

GORTATOWSKI: topo nick from Gortatowo; original etymology possibly German names Gort or Gothart

PISKAD£O: from word pisk (squeal), hernce squealer (in the sense of giving off squeals, not snitching)

BIEGAŃSKI: from biegać (to run); probably topo nick from Bieganin, Bieganów or similar.
