I am looking for some help in getting information on my grandmother, Martha Forbrich, who left Posen in 1907.
I am also looking for family information on my great grandfather, Friedrich Jeske, who was from the area of Schoenlanke, and who left there in 1865. Also, I am looking for information on Julius Rudolph Jeske, who left in 1867.

Any help in the area would be appreciated. Thanks.

Both names excist in today's Poland but look to be German or Yiddish.

FORBRICH: Yiddish or Polish respelling of ther German surname Vorbrich (meaning obscure)

JESKE: possibly adaptation of the Jewish girl's first name Yiska.

Hierher gehören nun die schles. Familiennamen

Hoberg/Hohberg,
Herbrich/Herbricht,
Herbrig (neben Herberg, Herberger),
Steinbrich (neben Steinberg),
Süßbrich,
Weisbrich/Weissbrich,

JESKE: possibly adaptation of the Jewish girl's first name Yiska.

Very unlikely. Yiska is a rarely used name among Jews in the last 4000 years, although it may have a comeback one day. It was the name of Abraham's niece.

I did hear of the name Yissachar being shortened to Yiska.

I have got a Mathilde Forbrich married Robert Knapp in 1883. she died 1884 1885 and Robert married her sister Hulda. They come from Tucholle Zirke Birnbaum Posen. Perhaps Marthae is relatived, because the first and only daughter of Robert and Mathilde was Martha Knapp born 1862 married Oskar Paul Fenske in 1906. Many of this familiy went to Wusterhausen Dosse in Brandenburg because of expulsion (german: Vertreibung)

If you've got more information, please mail to kirstin-arndt at t-online.de

Just found your post. I believe this is Martha's cousin (she was named for her). I will check the file and post what I know of these folks.

Yes, this is the same family! I will attempt email with photo of Martha Fenske. How is she related to you?

Some Forbrich named people lived in San Antonio, Texas. I believe they came after the American Civil War .. I870s or later. That family quit speaking German about in the 1920s
