Envyme 10 | 28 15 Feb 2013 #1I've got a question. I ate something at a Polish friend's house a while ago but I can't remember the name of it. They were small fish rolled up and marinated in oil and vinegar. I think they were sardines but I am not sure. The marinade was sort of reddish. Does anyone know what I am talking about?
smurf 39 | 1,971 15 Feb 2013 #3It was śledź...herring in English.there's many different types, but the fish is always herring, the sauces can be different. Spicy, or creamy or just in plain old fashioned vinegar.Hated them when I moved here, but now I quite like to eat them.
OP Envyme 10 | 28 15 Feb 2013 #5Thanks guy, yes Rollmopsy was what I looking for. By the way, Do you have "karums" in Poland?
jon357 74 | 21,778 15 Feb 2013 #6They sound more like koreczki than rollmops. Rollmops are larger, have part of a gherkin inside and a stick to hold them together. Koreczki are sometimes in a red or green marinade.
jon357 74 | 21,778 16 Feb 2013 #8Feeling hungry just reading the thread!Rollmops, as their name suggests, is an old English dish (there's even a cooked version). Kolecki are as far as I know, uniquely Polish.

jon357 74 | 21,778 17 Feb 2013 #10An old Cornish traditional dish. But popular in every country that borders the North Sea.
