Personally,I am no fan of spirits and of all of them wodka is the worst..... tasteless and boring. Why drink it, except to get drunk?
Russians love it! That should be enough of a warning sign!

when I was younger I drank more alcohol than about six Westerners

As I said, Slavic metabolism. I learned years and years ago to not try to keep up.... since my mixed American genetic heritage doesn't seem to have any Slavic component....

Alcohol, like lots of things is fine in moderation but dangerous when consumed to excess.

This is exactly the kind of comment about vodka that I would expect from you, Milo"slaw". *galactic eyeroll*

What does not kill you makes you stronger, and all that.

Yes sure, unfortunately it always kills, some sooner some later, but the character is always first victim. In my long life I never find an interesting alcoholic, dull not curious about the world around them, their whole world was wrapped around next bottle of poison.

Svetovid is very unhappy with you, nedobry brate Ptak. :-/ @Torq

I was allied with Crow's vision of Slavia, unfortunately, Crow lost hie way and turned into believer of Slavia with Russia as one if the brothers. Destructive wishful thinking. The only thing they are interested is domination. Learn from history
By the way Svetiovid loves me

How do you know this?

I don't have kids, or grandchildren - but I was a son, and a grandchild.

I didn't care (so much). Of course, some times I was scared. Sometimes I wished that people would not drink so much while driving (at 200 km/h down country roads).

But overall - I learned at some early stage that adults were much more enjoyable to be around, when they had some alcohol.

an alcoholic parent/grandparent is a good role model? I would beg to differ

Everyone I knew was an alcoholic. Except for my mother, which had a life saving allergy.

But alcoholic in such a way, that they read me stories every night, or took me out into the yard to do some stargazing and constellation-identifying.

Much better than some neurotic, bipolar parent that doesn't drink - but makes my life hell through their own mental problems.

You are lucky if you've escaped unscathed.

My doctor (American) - tells me I'm as healthy as a bull. Just two years of not drinking, has returned my liver enzymes to normal, my bowels to proper function, and my heart back to what it should be.

My doctor (biased), tells me that as long as you moderate by 40, near everything is reversible. Except for Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome.

Heavy drinking while sitting all day long in an armchair = death. But if you drink alcohol, eat healthy, and exercise, alcohol may be beneficial to your health. I think people who drink alcohol and are physically active may outlive those who are on a diet and don't drink at all.

Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome.

To watch someone with that is awful. It opens the door to other things too.

alcohol may be beneficial to your health

A glass of wine now and again or occasionally some beers or a nice cocktail. Drinking every day isn't good for most people though.

adults were much more enjoyable to be around when they had some alcohol

Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience at all, and most of the alcoholics I've come across are only concerned with where their next drink's coming from.

Much better than some neurotic, bipolar parent that doesn't drink

It doesn't have to be one or the other.
You're talking extremes here. There's a whole middle ground between being teetotal and an alcoholic.

I also think the drinking culture has become less popular over the last few years.

Just two years of not drinking, has returned my liver enzymes to normal

Glad that's the case and that you're healthy:):) Heavy drinking is so bad for you .

Wernicke-Korsakoff

That's a pretty terrible end result.

I always keep a bottle of single malt for guests that I don't like or..

Even if that laughable statement were true, isn't that a bit of a waste of money? You could simply give them some American trash bourbon (which barely deserves the wear the fine name of whisky) instead of one of the world's most prized and pricey spirits.

In reality, single malt scotch is beloved worldwide as one of the very finest drinks. Unlike vodka, which is only enjoyed by Eastern European menele and western highschool girls looking to get trashed cheaply, usually via mixing the horrible stuff with enough soda that you can't taste it anymore.

We're not some Hellenized faggots that drink for *taste*. We drink to get drunk -..

Reminds me of the Dutch and their awful 'stamped pot' of food - eating for fuel, not to enjoy it. Call me a gay-as-hell Greek if you like, but I eat and drink for the pleasure of it as well as the functional effects. A fine scotch, with a couple of ice cubes tinkling in a pretty glass, is a thing of sheer and supreme beauty to be savoured.

My god, you can be lyrical sometimes, Bobek. If you're not a writer by trade, you should be one. Sincerely enjoy your stuff, you know how to turn a phrase, tovarische. You're wasted on this place!

You're wasted on this place!

Do go both of you to a corporate pasture where you'll be censored and shadow banned. Discussing a Polish vodka may get you reported to authorities as a risky / unstable individual.

that you can't taste it anymore

Some people claim that vodka always tastes the same, and most of the time they're right. Good vodka always tastes the same - great.

A fine scotch

Real alcohol is transparent. The more colour it has, the more homosexual it becomes. Colouration is merely a spectrum of increasing gayness.

Good vodka always tastes the same - great.

'Good' vodka tastes as little of vodka as possible. Because vodka is an inherently bad spirit whose only purpose is to throw down your neck like Billy the Kid in a saloon (or, more likely, a toothless miner in a terrible Siberian town). If you can't sip and savour it, your spirit is no good. That's unarguable.

Colouration is merely a spectrum of increasing gayness.

As said previously, if enjoying the taste of my alcohol (and not merely using it as a method for getting wasted) makes me a big gay, call me Liberace. Or we should all just take to necking neat spirytus. Or, god forbid, bimber.

****** alcohol, with the exception of a good white rum, is clear. Good alcohol has colour, is crafted for flavour as well as potency. And this is why, no offence, whiskey and cognac are enjoyed by the 1% (due to the stunning heights of the craft and many-years-aged fine bottles) and vodka is enjoyed by the guys I see sleeping on benches in Warszawa. However, you can still get reasonable whiskey at a decent price point, but vodka will always be a dirt-cheap spirit with a few overpriced varieties available for very pretentious slavs who like to pretend it's actually a good drink. I like to keep a bottle of Grey Goose or Belvedere around to give them, so they can feel good about themselves and I don't have to waste anything decent like a single malt on them.

It's just plain alcohol watered down to a bearable level.

Or, god forbid, bimber.

A good one is OK.

vodka will always be a dirt-cheap spirit with a few overpriced varieties available

Basically yes,

Quite right. Any person of discernment and cultivation would naturally prefer vodka.

prefer vodka.

It's only watered down rectified spirit.

Just drink the original and you'll get there even quicker.

Torq  43 | 2950
24 Aug 2026   #739
It's only diluted rectified spirit.

At the molecular level, yes.

But remember that two vodkas can both be about 40% ethanol and water but taste quite different because of trace congeners - esters, higher alcohols, aldehydes, organic acids, etc. Also, the raw material used, the quality and treatment of the spirit and water, the trace compounds that remain, and the production process - they all matter.

Just drink the original and you'll get there even quicker.

The ancient Romans regarded drinking wine undiluted with water as a barbarous practice. Modern Slavs have a very similar approach to rectified spirit: you can drink it straight but it's a barbarous thing to do - men of culture dilute it with water.

jon357  78 | 26208
24 Aug 2026   #740
because of trace congeners

Yes. It's hard to get the impurities out, although all the main supermarket brands manage.

Some of the cheaper stuff has a taste of "heads" in it, basically traces of heavier alcohols left in the bottled product to save time and money.

men of culture dilute it with water.

Like meths.

Mixed with a bit of fizzy pop though, eh? Or chucked down the gullet so you can barely taste it? A spirit to be endured, not enjoyed.

Any person of discernment and cultivation would naturally prefer vodka.

This is why only Slavs, who have become accustomed to times of deep hardship and scarcity, and accordingly putting up with deeply lacklustre things to eat and drink, and western teenagers looking for a Friday/Saturday night shooter to get wasted on, drink it, whereas scotch whisky is prized and beloved the entire planet over. Yes.

The ancient Romans regarded drinking wine undiluted with water as a barbarous practice.

Traditionally, you mix whiskey with a bit of water to 'open it up'. It's only these barbarous Americans who started mixing it with 'soda' - but then their stuff is only fit for it.

Like meths.

Yup
