Hey, bring it in winter. That would be a great excuse to finally meet. :)

Are you near Poznan? If I'm not in Poznan, I'll be snowborading somewhere in southern Pl.

But, it's easy to take the train anywhere :) That's one thing I love about PL .

Wielkopolanin z krwi i kości. Only 39 km far from Poznań.

I'll tell you what, You take the strong beer and I'll take śliwowica łącka ( up to 80% alc)... It's going to be fun. :)

śliwowica łącka

Yes, this stuff is tough. i brought a bottle back, but it may've been a different brand. Strong! I thought it would be a little sweet because it's from plums and I was dead wrong :)

The first time I have tried it I lost my breath! It's definitely strong stuff.

And as for American liquor are there any other interesting alcohols from US that you would recommend? Wine, beer, maybe something stronger? I love the Thirsty traveler program, and recently I saw one about Kentucky Bourbon. It made my mouth water...

I'm still waiting to see him making a program about Poland. So far he visited Russia and Czech Republic, so pretty close to us. Maybe in next season? Who knows.

Tyskie is a lovely summer brew. It's just a pity that London didn't have a summer :)

The best beer is the one you're drinking.
I'm drinking Specjal. Out of a can.
I prefer bottles.

It says pelny on the can, but it doesn't look it to me.

I can't remember what it was called, and I only drank it this evening.
It claimed to be Polish, yet also had the words Sweden and USA on the bottle.
It was supposed to be a porter, which I normally assume to be somewhere between stout and ale,
but this stuff was like molten lead in a bottle.
I had to climb some stairs after drinking it, but the weight made this a real struggle!

I've found it - Witnica Black Boss Porter.
Evil stuff.

Yes, I've mentioned this beer before. It's definitely up there in the evil category at 9.4%. It's hefty, but I enjoy it :)

hefty

It made up for the fact I hadn't eaten enough dinner before going out.
It was just a bit of a shame that at the beer festival, there were about 70 beers from outside of the UK, but only two Polish beers.

The other was Witnica Wit Mocny. This one was also quite powerful.

Never had this one. I'll have to look for it. Was it at least tasty?

What American beers were there?

I wasn't amazingly impressed, but I'd try it again.

What American beers were there?

Only one: High & Mighty Beer of the Gods.
I didn't try that one.
Most of the foreign beers were German, Belgian or Dutch.
I normally stick to the British ales at these events.

As a wagon driver I got to try them all. Special likes Kaper Krolewski from Gdansk,Jablonowo extra mocne(or something like that-blows your head off!!)

Didnt like lech much-syrupy, and hated Strzrelec in Piotrkow. Used to drink Janusz until the found out that rewinski had simply relabeled bottled Zywiec with his own name-only in Poland hey!!EB was good stuff when it was still around too.

Best beer though is definetly British
Our Ales are fantastic and 80 shilling in Scotland was superb,Youngs Oatmeal Stout-heaven.Next comes Lithuania, wow what a choice of flavours, Romania-gold Ursus is great, and Latvia do a good lager aswell.

My god mate ur taste in lager/beer is revolting! I have been to lithuania 6/7 times and only once has the beer been any good, as for latvia! The last time i was there me and my 2 mates and 2 german girls tried every varation of beer/lager that was available and every one was equally disgusting. As for romania, bulgaria maybe 4 out of 10.

In scotland only tennants or maybe carling are even worth a mention, but are so poor when u compare them 2 Zywiec or lech.

For me personally i like Zywiec. The guy in my local off-sales sells me it by the case, and even though he charges me more than the 0.5zl charge thats on the can, i still think its the best lager i have drank anywhere in the world

Well i hope we agree that our beer is way out in front. As for LT beer. They have a very big range of beers and with a choice as large as theirs you'll always find one you like.

I dont know how you travelled but I suspect it was to the tourist areas. Many tourist areas suffer from a lack of range that locals demand. As a commercial traveller I was mainly going to non touristy places and it allowed me to try some better food and some better beer and get a real sense of what those places were really like.

As for LV and RO, well I was impressed with what I tried. O.k so green ursus was not so good but I thought Gold was a very nice beer that compared well to anything at home(then Poland)

Zywiec is o.k but there are many in PL which are just as good. There are 2 types of Tyskie whereI lived and they were better than Zywiec for me.Brok had had some great stuff too,but some of the smaller breweries knocked them for six.Polish beer was much better before the likes of carlsberg started buying up the small firms and amalgamating them. When EB went and Kaper was moved out of Gdansk it was a bad thing for Polish brewing. Its going the way it is here in the U.k

Where i came from it was always a Whitbread or Devenish situation. Now that the former owns the latter all is now lost.

I AM NOT AN ALCOHOLIC-HICUP!
