Fresh normally means not frozen. The OP didn`t mention he expected "super duper fresh trout straight from the pond". :):) He clearly wrote: in or around Krakow.

No, they don`t have time to play such games with fish. :):) When it is past its date, they simply throw it out or the supplier takes it. :):)

A good rule to follow is never buy a trout you have not personally seen alive and kicking.
You advise to use super fresh fish rule but still you seem to talk about farm trout. That is a major misundestanding. If you want real quality trout, catch it yourself instead of buying farm trash.
