Would you favour a free and open PF where people could post under their real names?

There is nothgin wrong with a little ethnic humour.

In that case, why don't you put your real name to all your 'humorous' comments, so all those nice churchgoing friends of yours can be directed to PF to see what you post? You would be an outcast overnight. You are a coward hiding behind your nick. And there you are on your other thread bemoaning the true meaning of Xmas being lost in commercialism, when you can't even adhere to the teachings of your own church. Hypocrite much?

Don't forget who propsoed scrapping anonymity, and it was seconded by H. He probably did so knowing the consensus would be against it. I doubt if he would want all his particulars known, although he loves to pry, snoop and cyber-stalk. voes to. Would yoiu personally agree to post udner your full name and email? I would if everyone else also went along.

Don't forget who propsoed scrapping anonymity,

Yes, but only because you were stupid enough to believe that the only people who could see your posts were those on PF. If you knew your friends and family could see the appalling things you have written, would you still advocate scrapping anonymity?

No. For the simple reason that people here have been 'researched'. My private life is my business and no-one elses. Having had many unpleasant PM's, I no longer have my inbox open, so why would I give out my real name and email address, so people can try to track me online? If you want to waive your right to anonymity, that's up to you, but anyone with common sense is going to reject this totally out of hand.

the appalling things

But people posting under their own name on Twitter and Facebook are less inclined to post appalling things. It's a disciplining mechanism.

You certainly don't post the same vile racist, homophobic, sexist claptrap on Facebook under your name.

So why don't you do that in your own name?

So why don't you lead by example and add your name, address and telephone number to your posts.

Which is why when your name is known, you don't apparently post appalling things.
I notice you didn't answer my question though:-

If you knew your friends and family could see the appalling things you have written, would you still advocate scrapping anonymity?

you didn't answer my question

Yes, I did. Sccrubbing anonymity would have civilised the forum. Everyone, myself included, would think twice before making some reckless or gauche remark. Even that blowhard HB would think twice before typing PiSlamic state for the 467th time.

You would need to link this site with Facebook. And no I would not want that. This site would have to take a large leap in social media/apps to outweight the decrease in posting activity. It's an old style and somewhat "outdated" web page but it actually gets decent activity.

Check my posts on FB groups: you'll see lots of PiSlamic State references. Strange how in your FB posts there is none of the vile homophobia, racism and sexism that characterise your posts here, isn't it.

You should provide a link both to yours and Polonius3's accounts on FB, then we shall be able to compare these two to know if what you are saying is true.

You're out of touch with reality P. Libtards and regressive left are still pretty strong in some areas. Also I would have expected you to be defender of the freedom of speech.

No can do, 'Mo, that would be an immediate and permanent ban. And even if I did, you wouldn't be able to see the posts in the groups I was referring to: they're all for adults only.

So how can you see them, you the little Harold who hasn't grow up yet?

How can anyone check on FB when they don't know your real name. It can't be Hairy Belafonte, can it?

an immediate and permanent ban

That would be wonderful. The forum would gain a new lease of life. Goading and baiting by the "Master Baiter" aka the Liar Laureate would cease and people could enage in meaningful discourse without his intrusive and obsessive badmouthing and genrally toxic behaviour.

It could be interesting, but I doubt it would work. Too many people could easily lie about their real name, and it would have to be separate from the anonymous forums.

I will say though, I am deeply disturbed by the hateful comments I have read on this site so far (I just joined today). I am persistently amazed at how small-minded people can be. Conversing with people who have different opinions is important, but it should be done in a constructive and educational way. Too many are so quick to attack, feeling their morals or views are threatened by the unbelievable fact others exist who do not share those views. Please be mature, people. Have an actual conversation, not a word fight. Ask why the other feels the way they feel, share factual articles (but please, no false news sites that seem to be so popular), articulate your thoughts.
