News / 2ND MIRACLE OF THE VISTULA: youth mysteriously appear out of nowhere! [231]

It is to safeguard judges from the illicit influence that would corrupt them and their rulings

Exactly. Which us why it must not be under party control, and why so many people are coming out on the streets.

somebody has to do it for them!

Sound's like you favour the idea of People's Courts.

UK, Ireland / Why English do not like Polish? [417]

bet

Never bet on politics or demographics; too many surprises...

heir bonds are so strong

Perhaps on the Aussie side. Most people in Britain feel neither malice nor any great affection.

Time for us here

Nobody's stopping you.

Perhaps an Arabic-speaking or Chinese-speaking Australian would make a good choice.

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

It's 9250 pounds per year to be exact

Sounds right. He should certainly check that it's also the figure for non-residents.

At least double once things like housing,

It isn't a cheap country, especially the south-east.

most are the student type jobs though

This is true, there are more and more studenty type jobs in Poland for people who don't speak Polish. Yes, they're studenty jobs, yes, studenty jobs are fine for students.

So.... you wish that PO had proposed the exact same package that PiS has?

Interesting who they'd prosecute if they wanted to...

it always one-party or the other.

One Party only has attempted to destroy judicial independence.

And I suspect we'll see a new political grouping emerge soon, one that will make Kaczynski and Macierewicz sh1t themselves at the real meaning of the concept of total opposition...

bojo the clown

You should have kept him and stranded him in the outback.

Nobody

That would be the same 'Nobody' who voted down the referendum last time. Must be quite a guy.

It will be nice one day if you do choose a republic, that's something that happens to British Colonies. We set them up, and cut them loose when they're a success, as Oz is. I doubt anyone in the UK much cares and most are probably surprised it hasn't been done already.

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

I just noticed some jobs advertised for students in Warsaw, no Polish language needed. It seemed a bit odd outside term time, however there's evidently a growing need for people to do studenty type jobs.

yes

Yes. Worth mentioning that IELTS is sweeping the world, eclipsing the Cambridge Suite in many places and far more useful than TOEFL which is gered to those who want to go to the US.

kozminski university

Kozminski is decent.

When I went to uni here in the UK, not only was it free, but the govt paid you to go!

Me too. It was possible then since far fewer people went into higher education then.

@Dirk, the £9,000 figure is standard, there are limits to what universities can charge. Check though that it's the same fee for overseas students - those prices are not regulated.

I wonder if SGH is in on this scam.

No scam. SGH is about as respectable as it gets.

If you're going to be in Warsaw, look at the MBA programme from PAN - depending on what specialism you want to do of course. They have some interesting ones, and I've considered it myself.

News / EU confirms it will take action against Poland over court reforms [554]

I'm assuming today is about getting things in place to act quickly when and if the time comes.

Very much so. They don't take decisions lightly, quickly or without thorough planning.

JK, who knows nothing of the outside world, will probably overplay his very weak hand again

This is exactly what's likely, if PiS don't get him sedated or even hospitalised before he drives the final nail into their coffin with more outbursts.

History / In Memory of victims, who had their lives cruelly taken at Treblinka Death Camp in Poland [104]

Treblinka is merely ONE symbol of the unspeakable

Yes. It's also currently and for many years more a place of quiet reflection about the horrors that took place, rather than somewhere with exhibits like Majdanek in Lublin, Stutthof in the north and the best known of them in South West Poland.

I think the site is best kept exactly as it is now.

News / 2ND MIRACLE OF THE VISTULA: youth mysteriously appear out of nowhere! [231]

putting work onto pen drives to take home work to do at the weekends

Normal enough. Sounds like a pretext. This silly behaviour by PiS and their oafish and vindictive supporters is precisely why thousands of people in the 19-35 demographic come out on to the streets to say "enough already".

PiS are probably splattering their collective knickers with steaming wet faeces at the thought of those Poles turning out to vote PiS out of office.

News / Was Kaczyński behind the presidential veto? [65]

mostly soros paid UBywatel

You got proof of that silly assertion?

And yes, there are millions of Poles who don't support PiS and their evil plans. Most didn't vote for them.

he would never put that Duda traitor as candidate for presiden

At least you acknowledge that the reigns of power are not help by the so-called 'president' and so-called 'premier' but by a backbencher.

News / 2ND MIRACLE OF THE VISTULA: youth mysteriously appear out of nowhere! [231]

I'm telling it to you

Little point in doing that. Tell it to the nasty squad, ones who invariably support PiS or any other authoritarian right-wing regime, providing it isn't Islamic.

All those weekly protesters you are talking are old folk and very few of them.

Perhaps 35 year olds seem young to you. Perhaps large crowds just seem like 'a few'.
