Czesc,

Does anyone know what job prospects are like for QS / Estimators in Poland at the moment? Is the salary good? Also, are there many foreign companies building over there currently (might be more willing to hire english speaking staff)

I will ask my private student and leave a post here tommorow as she is a property valuer and might have some idea, but I think you will have some problems if you do not speak Polish.

First it will depend from the Construction Sector you want to work with.
If we talk about Infrastructure - Roads, Bridges, Tunnels, etc, where the Client is the Polish Government, it will be necessary that you understand Polish - as all the Technical Documentation is only in Polish.

If we talk about Civil Construction, I believe can be much easier - as usually the Clients are private - so a large percentage of the documentation is provided in English. In Warsaw the Spanish and German developers are a very strong presence.

The salary will always depend of the experience. A Roads Senior Estimator with 10+ years of experience will make around 10'000 - 13'000 Pln/brutto/per month. A entrance level can be around 2000 Pln netto/month.

If we talk about Quantity Surveyor, and if you are an RCIS, the language will not be a problem for you as the RCIS are always in strong demand with really high salaries - usually they take care of Large Contract Claims...

Hope I could help you!

Hi,

Currently i am studing Comercial management and quantity surveying <RICS> in UK, If you are asking about future demands for QS in poland ,I can say that its gonna be huge especially for polish speaking QS. If your course was acreditated by RICS thats great if by CIOB its still realy good cos with you personal development in the industry you will progress. Then you can try to join RICS <it takes usually few years to become a member>

Regards,

Jakub K.
