Lady in red 31 Jul 2007 / #31I actually joined here for business contacts, but after reading the many posts, Ive become quite interested...In what ? If I may ask ? The Polish Police Force and how they handle crime ?

Daisy 3 | 1,224 31 Jul 2007 / #33While this is not the right way to gain respect it does act as a deterrent to criminals to know that the police are armed. Are you suggesting America has less crime than the UK because their Police are armed?
bookratt 6 | 85 31 Jul 2007 / #35Murders per capita, worldwide:nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_percap-crime-murders-per-capita#20 Poland: 0.0562789 per 1,000 people
bookratt 6 | 85 31 Jul 2007 / #37Poland is number 20 on the list and lower down the list is the USA at number 24. These are old numbers from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime. But look here:nationmaster.com/graph/cri_pro_cri_vic-crime-property-victimsand here:nationmaster.com/graph/cri_rap_percap-crime-rapes-per-capitaand here:nationmaster.com/graph/cri_kid_percap-crime-kidnappings-per-capitaIs the term VIOLENT only a murder, or a kidnapping or burglary or rape with threat of or actual violence used against the victim, that does not lead to death in the end?Note that South Africa has a horrible rate of all kinds of crime, and while gun ownership there is reputedly not as high as in the US, the fact is that MOST guns in the US are registered, known and accounted for while MOST guns in South Africa are not registered, known and accounted for. So it's a little like apples to oranges being compared there.
joepilsudski 26 | 1,388 31 Jul 2007 / #38In Philadlphia PA, we have had over 600 gun-related murders in the past 18 months, with 95% of them committed in the African-American community...this is called 'black-on-black crime'...right now Phila PA is the murder capital of the US...the problem is not gunsper se, but a total breakdown in morals & accountability in certain communities...many ofthese murders are committed on/by teenagers...people in these communities will not cooperate with police to catch the perpetrators...so, the police become apathetic...whatyou have is a community that 'eats it's young'...hopefully this phenomena will never appear in Poland.
_Sofi_ 1 Sep 2007 / #39Some Police are armed,"Non-firearm specialists in 10 forces across England and Wales are to be permitted to use the 50,000-volt weapons to protect themselves or civilians."None for Scotland!
gavin79 3 | 72 1 Sep 2007 / #40British police also have CS gas on them at all times which they can use if they have good enough reason.
