Polish stuff vs. American stuff

don't call it stupid but defend it...

Frankly, I don't feel I have to defend anything. I was born in the US and have traveled and prefer to live in the US. There's aspects of America I'm embarrased by (Iraq, Vietnam.etc) but there's far more I'm extremley proud of. More often than not we've been an agent for good in the world.

Further, if I defend it Europeans will say I have "no humour". I can't take criticism, etc. Your criticism is usually along the lines of Americans are "fat, stupid, obese..no culture blah, blah, food is shi.tty". If I don't like that, well I'm just an oversensitive American. How about we criticize Poland in that juvenile way? How would you respond to that? I can see why most Americans come to PFs for a couple of weeks and never post again.

You started this thead and you live in Texas, right? Yet you don't seem to like the States. Why on earth do you choose to live here??

Americans are "fat, stupid, obese..no culture blah, blah, food is shi.tty".

I live in the US like you and love living here but there are too many fat people here. People have to pay $45.00 for a carton of Marlboros because they cause so many health problems, like cancer and emphazema and the government wanted compensation but what about problems the unhealthy diet causes Americans? Why doesn't the government tax the high fat, empty calorie Oreos, Hostess Cupcakes and Twinkies they are worse than cigarettes? Did you know Dr Pepper is one of the factors in causing diabetes and can lead to childhood obesity?

We should be eating more organic apples.

Under Clinton. It fluctuates. Yes, US sending jobs to China has built modern China. Yes it has.

we're still #1 unless you coun t EU as one country

I didn't type that what you quoted. Polack Puppy did.

Yes, US sending jobs to China has built modern China

It's also made consumer products cheaper for your average American, which in turn drives the American economy, swings and roundabouts really. This does not mean I agree with the sell-out of jobs to developing countries, quite the oposite.

Yes.. It's a trap and only the richest 5% ultimately benefit. I'll gladly pay a couple of bucks more to have it made here. EU countries should do the same. Chinese have cheap labor that's it. Any thing that's in demand and is cheap soon will not be.

The ones with lead filled paint? Besides, what's the point of having cheap products if you don't have a job to buy them? What a crock of sh/t. Thank you , Wall Street.

First off it's down to a country to check the products and ensure the safety of these imported goods.

I couldn't agree more with you, hence the reason I don't agree with sending work abroad, but there are never going to be enough people not buying these products to stop it happening, whilst a % of American citizens lose their jobs, there are still plenty that are working, legal and more importantly illegally that will happily play bargain prices for goods made in sweatshops by 10 year old kids, it's an age old situation, people get rich off the sweat off others less fortunate.

I'll gladly pay a couple of bucks more to have it made here. EU countries should do the same.

Me too, but problems still exist within the EU, like the fact England and NI are exporting jobs to Poland, this does nothing for us here in the UK but create more unemployment, the EU is a bag of shite and if we had a vote here in the UK I would vote to exit, quick sharp!

You are right, now there is nothing much left which can be called American stuff, except the military supplies which common people dont want.

And nothing ever came from Poland. So the comparison is void as there is nothing to compare on both sides..

Read your history.

I asked YOU the question.

It was you who questioned the American work ethic.

Food
American - processed, nasty crap.

What about deli meat (wędlina) in poland? It is processed meat (loaded with sodium and nitrates) and VERY popular among poles for kolacja. Face it, people don't have time to cook anymore and are increasingly resorting to processed food. Even bread is processed -unless you want to go down to the baker every morning for fresh, preservative free bread - but really, who has time for this?

And don't get me started about saturated fats in polish food...

The part about Poles having yellow teeth because of drinking tea? Disagree, I'm afraid. It's more or less a genetic thing. I brush my teeth like crazy but they're never gonna be snow-white.

Dentists advice not to brush too heavily. Else you could damage the tooth enamel.
Maybe you were just joking thought? :P

many nations drink more tea and coffee and smoke then the Poles and still have snow-white teeth...

This isn't really true, ever seen a Les Paul Gibson, Fender Stratocastor, marshall amp? Steinway Pianos? Jack Daniels whiskey, Cadillacs? Chinese don't make those. We also export semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, video games and software, speakers, aerospace. Lot's and lot of agriculture: most rice and steaks for the Japanese comes from us.

You cannot really compare.
The USA is not just a country, but virtually a continent.

You will find more diversity in two American states e.g. Texas, NY, California, New England, than you will find in the entire country of Poland.

Indeed, you will find more diversity in either California or NY than you will find in a large chunk of Eastern Europe.

Equally, as larger European countries go, Poland is rather uniform.

The USA is not just a country, but virtually a continent.

You should compare the USA to all of Europe. USA is 50 states and Europe is...uh...how many countries? If our states were countries we would be more like the rest of the world.
