Is it possible to acquire a job in Poland being from the US? I understand that many Americans there teach english. Is that it? I work with GSM networks but I dont speak much polish. What are the possibilities for success?

When it comes to telecomunication/IT specialists - as a Pole you shouldn`t have absoloutely any problems in finding a job. As a matter of fact there is even a shortage for telecomunication/IT specialists - however since you`re an American and you don`t speak much Polish I don`t know what your chances might be - my guess is that you`d have a good chance, but it probably depends on what kind of job that would be.

When it comes to telecomunication - i would start searching a job with the smaller telecommunication companies who are offering VoIP or other telecomunication solutions - they might see hiring an American as an advantage.. then with the major GSM operators.. and then with TP.SA.

Thanks! I had an idea that my lack of Polish would hinder me. I just have so much damn fun when I'm there. Wish there was another way. Maybe open a business....

Yes - but as I say - it depends on the job and the company. If its a small company they might want to hire you becaouse those kind of companies usually seek people with some different-nonstandard skills and experience that they usually can not get on the jobmarket.

Running a business without knowing Polish - might be quite hard - running a business in Poland is much more difficoult than in the US - there are much more regulations - and without knowing Polish you might very quickly go under. Though ofcourse you might run the business together with the help of your girlfriend.

About Americans teaching English in Poland - according to the law you don't need a work permit if you yeach your mother tongue, in all other cases you do. So it's easier for them than it may be for you.

You may want to look for a job in multinationals, speaking a foreign language is a standard there so Polish becomes less important than your core skills.

Good luck!
