Just looking in my old car policy the small print says:
"Continental Use/Compulsory Insurance Requirements
In compliance with EU Directives this policy provides as a minimum the necessary cover to comply with the laws on compulsory insurance of motor vehicles in:
* any country which is a member of the European Union
* any country which the Comission of the European Communities is satisfied has made arrangeemtns to meet the requirements of Article 7 [2] of EC Directive 72/166/CE relating to civil liabilities arising from the use of a motor vehicle"

any changes/advice since the last post? we are thinking to bring our irish rfeg car to poland for one year, and would not like to make any alterations to the car - LHD - is it at all possible to buy insurance in poland for irish reg car? Thanks
you would only need to change it over to LHD if you wanted to register the car in Poland. As you are only bringing the car over temporarily then I don't see why you would need to do anything like that. Keep your Irish plates, Irish vehicle inspection and Irish insurance. That is probably the simplest route. Just make sure your documents don't expire whilst you are abroad, as you will need to be in Ireland to get your vehicle inspection done.
