McCoy 27 | 1,268 3 Nov 2008 / #3112th of november i'm going to the New Model army show in krakow. it's gonna be freaking awesome :) are they still popular in gb?
OP LondonChick 31 | 1,133 3 Nov 2008 / #32Some of my friends might still be vaguely interested in them, though I think that it's fair to say that they're not big here any more. Don't they have a massive following in North Germany? I remember going to some random village in Schleswig Holstein and being told that this was where NME played their first ever German gig.
Wroclaw 44 | 5,369 3 Nov 2008 / #33There are a lot of British bands (older acts/has beens) who turn up for various music festivals and New Year's Eve parties. It's difficult to know if they are bigger here or not. This is apart from regular tours by modern day greats.U2 might be bigger here because of New Year's day (is this the song about Lech ?). They will be in Poland next year.
wildrover 98 | 4,438 3 Nov 2008 / #34I thought i saw Lord Lucan riding a horse near my farm.....possible the horse was Shergar.....
christophelees 17 Feb 2009 / #35Ha Ha. Nice oneI Do much bigger gigs in Poland than in Uk. Worked with a few name bands ( Alan Silson, Pete Spencer from Smokie) done several gigs in Poland with 'The Animals', several radio shows, and last year a couple of solo shows. Wrote a few songs whilst touring out there ( check out Polish Pearl & City Girl) myspace.com/christophelees. I reckon we did just about every town & city out there between 1995 & 2005 as SOS
wildrover 98 | 4,438 17 Feb 2009 / #36Pete Spencer from SmokieNice guy , met him at a Christmas party at Chris normans house , Chris is married to my ex girlfriends sister , another really nice guy...
Olasz - | 69 17 Feb 2009 / #37Don't forget about Norman Davies? He writes about history of Poland.Nigella Lawson it's popular (I don't know why, for me she is... yuk!)
Harry 17 Feb 2009 / #38Jeremy 'sexist racist offensive dinosaur' Clarkson is very popular among Polish men, I can't work out why....
Trevek 26 | 1,700 17 Feb 2009 / #40I think Norman now lives in a nursing home and his house was sold to pay for his care. He is so big in Albania because his films were some of the only westrn films allowed to be shown there under communism.Kevin was a fireman and an EL teacher before becoming a TV celeb.
OP LondonChick 31 | 1,133 17 Apr 2009 / #41Don't forget about Norman Davies? He writes about history of Poland.Good point!!Also, there's Ray Wilson from Stiltskin / Genesis.Anymore for any more... ?
wildrover 98 | 4,438 17 Apr 2009 / #43Is Smokie British? As British as they come....They are from Bradford yorkshire , Chris norman the lead singer , and songwriter is married to my ex girlfriends sister , he left Smokie a long while back , and now has his own band...Smokie are still going strong , but only one of them is from the original band...Chris has told me some interesting tales of Smokies tour of Poland when he was in the band..
MrBubbles 10 | 613 17 Apr 2009 / #44Smokies tour of PolandThey played a couple of dates in Poland quite recently no? I love 'living next door to Alice'Chris norman ... is married to my ex girlfriends sisterCool! I wish I were in the celebrity set!
wildrover 98 | 4,438 17 Apr 2009 / #45the celebrity set!Its hard to think of Chris as a celebrity , although he is a big star in Germany now... I know him only as a nice decent guy who does not act like your typical star , and is just a down to earth person... I am still good friends with my ex girlfriend , so i get to news about Chris and his family now and then...
OP LondonChick 31 | 1,133 17 Apr 2009 / #46although he is a big star in Germany nowLoads of musicians end up in Germany - have just been looking at some of the bands on this website: sounds-promotion.de/?mod=artists&lang=en
wildrover 98 | 4,438 17 Apr 2009 / #47Loads of musicians end up in GermanyChris does not actually live in Germany , but he does have a recording studio there , and his band consists of German guys...He actually lives in the isle of man seeing as he earns a few bob from his music....One of the people he made a record with was Suzi quatro , who also lives in Germany...
OP LondonChick 31 | 1,133 17 Apr 2009 / #48I love travelling around Germany as much as I love travelling around Poland.... a lady of simple tastes -I don't feel the need to treck around Cambodia or the tropical rain forests, me.I bet these bands have a right old laugh touring around Europe. A bit like Still Crazy, that film with Jimmy Nail and Bill Nighey a few years ago.
wildrover 98 | 4,438 17 Apr 2009 / #49I bet these bands have a right old laugh touring around EuropeOh boy could i tell you some stories from Smokies days touring Germany , and Poland , but i won,t on a public forum....maybe if we meet some day i will whisper it...if you promise not to tell....?
