would an Englishman even recognize the Polish Language as being polis

I don't think anybody really knows what Polish sounds like besides linguists, Polish speakers, and people with Polish friends
I was talking Polish to one of my Polka friends one day and someone asked if we were speaking French, and btw I live in Canada, French is an official language....=/

surprisingly, because when i get my Scottish bloke to say something in Polish, he sounds scarily Polish. but then if its something longer, he tends to sound Russian as well. or tries to sound like Borat. he's such a child lol.

Hmm.. People that hate Poles for no reason other than that they are "foreigners" also hate all the other races living here.
Educated English people have a word that perfectly describes unfounded racism - that word is moronic....

I might have found another one, but the only one that comes to mind right now is 'sto'.

There is most definitely Pole-hating in England, trust me on this.

Why bother fecking coming then!..

I'm sure an English person can tell the difference between Polish and French speakers.

I very much doubt it.

Sometimes you even astound me with some of the things you say..Oh yeah all you bloody foreigners all sound the same!!!!

He wont have any problems with Pole hating in Manchester either, believe it or not not and I hate to burst your bubbles but we have had large communities of Ukrainian, Polish and Italians in Manchester long before your membership with the EU, hell my brothers best man / best friend - his parents are Polish, no big deal....nothing new.... nothing special...get over yaselves!

it's sentences that count :)
you don't communicate with words only (normally)

An attacking player is standing in the goal - Napastnik stoi na bramce.

i'm not a linguist but i can tell the difference between Polish, French, Italian etc. when they speak in their language (not so good at recognising the accents when they speak English though). if you cant tell whether it's Polish or French it's just plain ignorance.

Maybe it is, Justysia. But if they don't hear foreign languages too often, they probably just have no idea.. you don't have to be a linguist to tell the difference between two distinctly different languages, but you do need to know there's something else there besides English ;)

Or maybe they based their assumption that we're French on other factors..

I was once mistaken for a foreigner in Malvern when speaking English... not surprised they thought you were French...

Greater Manchester/Cheshire.

Is this a good place for a Polak to live

My friend will go to work there in 1 months time. Is it friendly and a good place to live ?

No, it's not.

Manchester is a typical Northern dump full of depressed, ugly people who hate everyone and everything.

If your friend wants to buy a gun and get into a fight, he'll be fine.

You are making me feel scared for him now. Have you visited Manchester or do you live there ?

nothing like creating a moral panic ... i wont deny that gun crime doesnt happen in Manchester and London as it does more often than anywhere else to be honest but it does tend to be in the Moss side area of Manchester that it occurs than anywhere else .....

Sorry if you're scared, it's not my intention to do that.

I don't live there but have visited quite a few times and have never really liked it. While London is probably worse for gun crime, it is a problem in Manchester too.

Like "Arise St George" said on the other thread about the terrible murder in Leeds (and I don't agree with him often) people coming here to live really do need to find out about the areas they are moving too.

Does your friend have a job lined up ? Can he afford a decent place to live in a decent area ? Has he thought about other places ?

I'd advise Kirkham or Wesham... a friendly white town with 2 big cities on the left and right of it. No crime, nothing. I love it :)

With the small town mentality to go with it.

While I wouldn't advocate a move to the ass end of the UK and end up in a place like Manchester, there are plenty of safe places to live where all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds rub along ok just fine.

Are the KKK meetings held at your house ? ;-)

That's right.

I don't care what anybody thinks, I'll tell you the truth, I don't like blacks and I don't like Pakis. I don't mind hindus and Sikhs, chinks and Japs, they're ok but as for the rest...nah I haven't got time for them.

Twatx!

Not sure when you last visited Manchester or in deed where the hell you visited that was so awful...But I can assure you that most Poles like Manchester and enjoy the safety of the city, in comparison to lets say.........London!

As for the gun crime, lets get this straight, Manchester is quite a large place...and the gun crime is in a very small area in South Manchester generally is areas that are predominently black and asian.
