Gdansk at Easter

I'm off to Gdansk this weekend (Saturday - Tuesday), & was wondering if anyone can advise if shops/ bars/ restaurants will be open during this period?

I recently read somewhere that a lot of places will be closed for Easter.

Any other advise gratefully received also.

Everything, and I mean everything, will be closed on Easter. Monday is also a holiday so don't expect to find much open except maybe a few few pubs, and I'm not even sure about that. Buy whatever you need when you arrive on Saturday because you may not see anything open until Tuesday. And check the weather forecast. It;s March, which means it's unpredictable. We've had more snow this month than we had all winter, as well as a lot of rain.

Cheers for that (I think!).

Well aware of the weather, & have many layers packed to deal with the cold/ wet/ snow.

Was more concerned about having 2 days with nothing at all to do, which appears maybe the case. Much as I try & avoid English or Irish pubs when on holiday, are they all likely to be shut too?

I really don't know. I've never been to an Irish pub since I got here-that's not why I came to Poland. But I pass one on my way to work and I'll ask today.

Again, many thanks.

As I said Irish/ English bars are not my thing when abroad, but the more I'm hearing about this weekend, it seems they may be my only hope of getting a beer!

Would much prefer to go to traditional bars & restaurants, or even ones in the hotels, if they were open.

just to let you know we (Trojmiasto) had a good foot of snow this morning - more forecast for tomorrow and Friday. Total paralysis of the traffic flow of course ....

Snow, I can live with. Bars being closed, I don't think I can! :)

I have been checking the weather regularly, & have been expecting to see some snow, & for it to be very cold.

Yeah, the snow was beautiful. The Irish pub will be closed. I'll check out a couple more for you tonight.

Abinthe will be open Monday afternoon. I'll find out Szafa tomorrow. Where will you be staying?

scottie, you are most kind. I appreciate all this information.

Hotel is the Aureus in the Old Town. Reviews read quite good, but apart from that, I know nothing about the place.

Oops, make that Absinthe. Have you booked already? I don't know the Aureas but I'll check it out for you. Do you have a map of Gdansk, either in hand or online? Absinthe is behind the LOT building right by the Armory. Don't miss it. Laugh! It'll be about the only place open.

Yep, hotel booked, & have very basic map downloaded. Appaently the hotel will sort us with map & tourist information on arrival. Which by the sound of it won't take long for this time of year!

Have checked & hotel has a bar & restaurant, so they should be open, at least for residents. Maybe a few other hotels will cater for us too? Here's hoping.

Szafa said they'll be open on Sunday so at least you'll have a couple of places to go.
