mike2626 30 Jun 2009 / #1I have grandparents that were known to have land in Poland. Can you advise on how to locate records of that land? Is there any site or organization that can recover land from 75 years ago? Thanks

inkrakow 30 Jun 2009 / #7Can you advise on how to locate records of that land? Is there any site or organization that can recover land from 75 years ago?If you know the location you need to get hold of the entry in the property register (Księga Wieczysta) and land register (Ewidencja Gruntów). If your grandparents are still listed as the owners on both, you have a relatively straightforward (although still long) process to get it signed over to their heirs through the courts. If someone else is listed as the owner on either or both, you have a bigger job ahead of you. Whatever happens you will still have to go through the courts as all changes to the property register are overseen by the judiciary. I advise you find a lawyer with a proven track record in this area.
DaniB 1 | 12 2 Jul 2009 / #10Since we are on the subject, how do people stand as having owned property in Lwow ie now The Ukraine. I have deeds of some properties owned by my mother and maternal grandparents but I understand that compensation claims were to be in by 31st Dec 08, so it seems we have missed the boat. Is that so?
Ironside 53 | 12,424 2 Jul 2009 / #11thats is plane robbery and what compensation are we talking? by PG?
DaniB 1 | 12 3 Jul 2009 / #12I don't understand what you mean by that comment. What is 'plane' robbery? The compensation payments are/were made by the Polish Government.
benszymanski 8 | 465 3 Jul 2009 / #13What is 'plane' robbery?I am sure he meant to type "plain robbery"

DaniB 1 | 12 3 Jul 2009 / #15I agree and was surprised that the Polish Government was paying the compensation, especially as some properties (as in my family's case) are now in The Ukraine so I assume that any resposiblilty lies with them.
