iwona 12 | 542 10 Jan 2007 / #181moneycorp.comThis is good and reliable Company. They send money on agreed with you rate of exchange and cover all charges of Polish banks. Money are received in Poland in PLN.
BubbaWoo 33 | 3,506 10 Jan 2007 / #182i have got a sterling account in a polish bank - i transfer money, withdraw it and take it to a local kantor where i get a much better rate than the bank offers... when we are talking thousands of pounds to convert then even the slightest difference in echange rate adds up...
Ela - | 11 10 Jan 2007 / #183how did you go about setting up that account up BubbaWoo.....any idea what the current rate at the kantor is and would they be able to convert a large amount say 25k?
OP Frank 23 | 1,183 10 Jan 2007 / #184Guys, there was an article in the S times a few weeks ago........to transfer 100000 Euro within the Euro zone, the differences were nearly 3000 between the worst and the best..!!If I can I will do a search...will get back to you asap if I find anything.

OP Frank 23 | 1,183 10 Jan 2007 / #188Ela/Bubb your combined luck was in..........BUT you may still have to shop around...ok?The best to transfer 100000 Euros, was Currencies direct or Moneycorp ( plus the charge 15 pounds to do the transfer but will cover the cost at the other end...important to check that too on such a large amount!!!!)......they cost 67,783 pounds and the worst was Natwest...at 70,822, pounds a difference of 3,039 pounds....!!.....YES £3039!!!!.............for what!!!????
Casper 10 Jan 2007 / #190The whole changing money at the Kantor thingys, the mother in law just phones round see who offers the best deal. Then in a military convey we, brother, father, mother, missus and me all head of to the kantor to change the cash. The brother and I stand point whilst the rest of the family crowds in the kantor and the deal is done. The guys at the Kantor have side arms, which just goes to show how serious the whole buisness is. However, the best way to get a decent rate is to change large sums in one go and that way the people tend to give you a good deal, when I say large sum anything above say £10000. We've definately done well on the 'ole exchange rate. i remember when we were changing 1 to like 6.8 or 6.9 a few years ago.
Ela - | 11 10 Jan 2007 / #191thanks for all the feedback...more investigating is required as my friend obviously wants the best exchange rate possible especially as he is already buying a property over his budget.
derekyeates 10 Jan 2007 / #192i set up an account when i was over there...how did you do this bubbawoo they wont let me open because i dont have a nip or pesal

OP Frank 23 | 1,183 12 Jan 2007 / #194Vincent see the thread on apartment purchasing...lots of info there.....
BubbaWoo 33 | 3,506 12 Jan 2007 / #195yup... if you use an agent the standard rate is 2% each... vendor and purchaser... no different for 2ndry market...
Propman 8 Feb 2007 / #196Hi allThinking of actually selling an apartment after completing - instead of initial plan of renting. Can someone comment on the actual process of selling after completion of an apartment?1) Legally, how soon can you sell the apartment?2) Practically, how long does it take?3) What other pitfalls shoudl I look out for? Thanks
iwona 12 | 542 9 Feb 2007 / #197I think that if you buy and sell apartment withing 5 years you will have to pay 10% tax.
BubbaWoo 33 | 3,506 9 Feb 2007 / #1981) Legally, how soon can you sell the apartment?as far as i am aware there are no restrictionsPractically, how long does it take?how long was that bit of string...? once you find a buyer the whole process can happen within a monthWhat other pitfalls shoudl I look out for?if you can sell without the help of an agent then you will save moneyas far as i understand, from jan 1 you now pay 19% tax on your profit only - if you are going to reinvest in property the you dont pay this tax...
Propman 9 Feb 2007 / #199Thanks Iwona and BubbawooHowever, I did not mean to ask about tax.Instead, I was thinking about the final contract, the occupancy permit and the ceritificate of the premises being a separate chamber of habitation.Am I right in thinking that the final contract cannot be signed until an occupancy permit and the certificate is issued? And therefore I cannot sell the property until all these documents are issued?Thank you
Moi 16 Feb 2007 / #202I see a lot of people talking about buying property in Poland and how you require a notery/permit and such things.Does any one have any experiance in buyinga plot of land for building a property
davidpeake 14 | 451 16 Feb 2007 / #203hi Moi, we have not long ago bought a plot of land with the hope to one day build on it.
BubbaWoo 33 | 3,506 16 Feb 2007 / #204Am I right in thinking that the final contract cannot be signed until an occupancy permit and the certificate is issued? And therefore I cannot sell the property until all these documents are issued?i believe this depends on the contract you signed with the developer.... some have clauses which will allow you to sell prior to completionDoes any one have any experiance in buyinga plot of land for building a propertymy partner is in the process of doing this now...
