That and no rationing of food, no secret police, stores where you actually can by something, etc... You know, a decent life.

ah, so we agree :) cool! :) read your posts. we're on the same wavelength

daffy, I never pretended it was different. Don't take my comments about the 1989 "revolution" as an anti-EU statement. I just wanted to confront the myth that Lech Wałęsa and Co fought for capitalism and free market, that’s all. I voted for joining EU and I haven’t changed my mind.

PRO EU

mmm... I am not anti... but if any other organisation will be more benefitial to Poland, I would vote in favour of that too!

i think that's the same for all people's in fairness. Why would you stay on the titantic if you could use a lifeboat???

the point remains the EU is the best institution to date (i would argree history to date in fact!)

nothing better has existed yet! but the EU has been a big step in the right direction wouldnt you agree?

sure it has flaws - but less flaws than any previous system to date!!! we go on about the rich getting richer like this was a new phenonemon! its been throughout history! BUT the difference today is, we are now free to make our own riches if we can (a thing we did not even have ANY chance of doing not so long ago! (ireland 1900's, poland? slavery etc.)

change for the better, step by step

yea :) ... Agree

I hope we have a more strong UN too ... would be nice if we can add nations regardless of continental borders too :) ...

but EU a good example.

Not sure if I am reading this correctly, but do the Polish in this forum feel that they are the only ones to suffer the strangle hold of the EU? I just wanted to throw in that the British have also had there up's and down's with the EU. Farming allowances and all that sort of stuff have had to be fought for, and not always won!

The following is just a personnal comment and not one of the general view of Britain... If the EU has still further to go with its policies towards all countries, a strong taint of the communist era will be felt in years to come. No independance is allowed. Everything is to become a general homogonised society.

The benefits are obvious, free border control, tax free movements... but with highly dubious 'allowances' (seperate rant needed for that one!), and most importantly for alot of people, the ability to move their entire family to a new country, with (almost) no effort. There are more, but these are the most important to the people that I know.

G i could say you dont want to see facts either!

Well, you didn't provide any, so I can't see them :)

And you didn't even comment mine from #192.

your ppost 192 is horseradish! portugal is far better off then poland and so is ireland! that is down to being a member of the EU. Poland will benefit more being in the eu than outside. that is a fact provided for you. Various facts provided by me are littered throughout the forum so :) to you too :) your 'facts' attract as much attention as mine do to you. so go figure.

Not really much. Czechs are already ahead of them.

Poland will benefit more being in the eu than outside.

Have I ever disagreed with that ?

where's your figures and sources backing that up?

Global Competitiveness Report for 2005, published by the World Economic Forum, places Portugal on the 22nd position, ahead of countries like Spain, Ireland, France, Belgium and Hong Kong. This table shows that Portugal has stepped two places regarding the 2004 ranking. On the Technology index, Portugal was ranked 20th and on the Public Institutions index Portugal is the 15th best.

Global Competitiveness Report 2006: Rank Czech 29th out of 125 countries

So what you talking about mo?

weforum.org/en/initiatives/gcp/Global%20Competitiveness%20Report/index .htm

-edit-
needless to say portugal & czech are close in the table of 125 AND both BENEFITTED due to EU membership

Czech still is notorious for corruption BUT noted as one of the most successful former communistic states

I voted for joining EU and I haven’t changed my mind.

You voted because you were brain wasted by the propaganda which was so intense during this time, and what were you promised, Milk and Honey??, and what have you go now..nothing apart from debts and divisions in the community. The milk has turned sour and honey has gone to GB to marry some wealthy englishman.

how would poland benefit outside the EU?

what alternative would there be for poland? how would it be any different or better?

The best alternative would have been for Poland not to have been so eager and then joined the EU at a later date.

judge not lest you be judged :)

id have to say again it is a vocal minority of Poles AND english

giving the rest (of both nationalitues) a bad name

Those who have a problem are very vocal. I understand that those who don't care and those who have no problem......don't post. The views read by the casual reader of some forums might sway opinion. The fact is that I see more negative than positive.

. People of my generation want to live in Poland and idiots like Ola will not stop us.

I am not sure that you understand what it would be like to live in Poland on a £100 per month salary after you have been living in the west for most of your life. Why do we have 600,000 polish in England since the collapse of communism if life is so good in the east? To visit Poland on holiday is one thing but to live in a country where you pay for everything-remember there is a very limited wealfare system unlike in the U.K. ect. Children pay for all medicines not like in England where under 16's get in all for nothing.

A very valid point Michal. Without supplimentary income or working for a foreign multinational on a western salary it is going to be struggle for the wannabees. Unless of course they intend to use capital to invest in buy to let real estate. In my experience that would not be a good place for first timers in that line to start. But hey, we only learn from mistakes so let them try it.

Foreigners: Please don't buy the Polish Land!

I am fully in agreement with ola123 on this subject. Any foreigner holding investment in polish real estate or thinking of doing so should , in my opinion, be hung, drawn and quartered.

This apparent change of heart has nothing to do whatsoever with the personal threats I have received in Poland or that fact that I sold all mine to my Polish partner last week, thus creating a confirmed Polish capitalist (and a rich one at that). I would like to apologise to anybody who has been forced to live on the streets as a result of my

'before enlightenment' actions. I would also like to apologise to the four students who have been paying well under the market rate for rent for the last three years. I would also like to apologise to the American businessmen who have been paying well over the going rate for the last three years (suckers!)

I will never darken your real estate door again. May God have mercy upon my soul.
