Foreigners: Please don't buy Polish Land!

I must agree that this attitude is very strange and one sided. I was a student in Moscow twenty years ago and there were 600 sudent teachers of Russian at the Pushkin Institute. The Poles never had a good word to say about the English and it was always 'our Churchill sold Poland to the Russians ect ect...'Now it is very different story. The Poles have come to England en mass and want to work and buy houses in the best parts of each town to guarantee that their children will be in the right catchment area for the best state schools. They know exactly how to 'work the system'. I was in Poland a few years ago just before Poland actually joined the EU and I was thinking about buying a small piece of land, maybe to build a house later on. Even though my wife and her family are Polish (her family lives in Czestochowa), I had no rights whatsoever-I had no right to buy as much as a garden shed as I had no Polish passport. If Poland wants to be so pure why do we have an estimated 600,000 Polish working here in England? There are also many in Ireland. It does seem to be a Polish characteristic-they always want to be on the winning side of an argument. They never take responsibility for anything as this Ola 23 suggests to be just the same as all the others I have met. Do what I say and not what I do scenario.

Poles had their country taken from them for 120 years - they were treated like slaves - then they were shafted - then granted short-lived freedom - then their country was completely destroyed and then they were shafted again - and then their country was taken over for 50 years by communists....all within the last 150 years. The sense of loss and betrayal cuts deep. That trauma is subcontiously passed down the generations. I'm not saying ohh lets all feel sorry for the poor Polish people - I'm just saying it the way it is.

Foreigners will never know.
Poland is going through rehab. Let them. Rehab is never pretty.

why do we have an estimated 600,000 Polish working here in England?

For the same reasons why England let in the blacks and the Asians to work. Redemption.

Unfortunately we live in a dog eat dog world and that that. Swim or sink.

The world is what you make it. You have a free spirit too.

they are trying to do something, which is honourable.

There is no more honour in the world today. A few minority still have it.

Does anybody actually have any real figures on the Polish property market?

I want to buy houses in Torun, Poznan and Warsaw and I've tried talking to Polish introductory estate agents, but all I've been fed so far is bullshít.

Nothing seems to add up although I am interested in this market.

Bubbawoo do you have a link to proof of polish property prices increasing?

One guy (who i didn't beleive) told me the average house prices in poznan rose 20% in one year?!

Obviously now would be a good time to start buying investment properties before the Poles but my main concern here in England is weather the Polish market is going to be stable. If we do to the poles what we did to the spanish who is going to buy the houses? Spain was different because we sold the houses back to the English, but there are no English retiring couples moving to Poland.

I'm only 27 so I missed out on the Spanish boom, for most people my age our only chance of getting a portfolio is in eastern europe.

its all risky ground.

what area

prices are soaring all over the 3M - i am now focussing attention on surrounding areas/cities where they have yet to catch up

there are different markets - new build, what is advertised by agents thru websites etc and what is being privately sold where you have to be on the ground to get the bargains... which calls for contacts and a local...

But the world around you is a rat race.
Where only the strong survive.

How true, indeed 38 million odd poles know this very well.. True telling a young couple that there dream home has now gone up 100,000zl thanks to the property boom, generated by overseas interests...

I'm not having a go at you personally as you have a Polish wife, but only a few people are enjoying the good life in Poland, you are very lucky.

property boom, generated by overseas interests...

All of the deals us (foreigners) make are ultimately with Poles, the houses we are buying are from Poles and higher earning "British" poles are doing the same thing.

Nothing in this world is free, English investment in Poland is the price that comes with Poles being allowed access to the UK.

Basically its a 2 way thing.

I really can't debate the moral implications, but I am just trying to build a future for myself so that I can get a wife and start a family. How am I any different from the Poles who are coming to England to work? Are they not just doing the same?

Good Point, they are probally filling in a labour market shortage, working in most cases below the award wages, secondly they are not buying up real estate and causing a increase in the property market.

I have no problem with people from other countries living in Poland and starting a new life, but not the cowboys wishing to make a quick buck.

I rather suspect people wanting to settle in Poland will in time be very disappointed and return home, the polish way of life is very unique and not many really adapt to it...

The short term offers cheap booze, smokes etc, when this wears out and or sickness these people will want to be on home ground.

At Ola123,

How come you are so worried about foreigners buying polish property? You think it's easy to buy a house or land??
The only way you will be allowed by the ministry of internal affairs is if you actually have a reason for living here. As in, working for a polish company, having family here, or married to a Polish citizen.

I'm already waiting for over 2 months for my permit to buy a small house with my polish wife. And for the record i do work here very happily, mainly because local ppl could not be found to do my job.

NB: these rules about buying property are in place for another 2 years, after this market will be open to anyone. Making every polish house owner rich.....

And another thing, prices don't rise because of foreigners, but by local demand, and shortage of appartments/houses.
My neighbour wanted to apply for an appartment, yet to be build, not far from here in Gdansk. In a new building where there will be 50 appartments, already more then 400 potential buyers signed up for the waiting list.

No wonder prices will rise.

To buy property in Poland would have been better years ago-you could buy a real bargain. In Czestochowa, I was offered a huge detatched house (an old style) for less than 20,000 pounds but I think that these good old days are at an end. Like everything else the golden days come to an end. Too late now, try Romania or even Bulgaria. You could have bought land a long time ago as an investment and then have your own purpose built house made to your own specifications now. You should have thought about this six or seven years ago though...

HOW NICE.
THIS WILL MEAN THAT BUBBAWOO WILL BE A MULTI MILLIONAIRE AND MOST POLISH PEOPLE WILL HAVE TO WORK 100 YEARS TO PURCHASE A APARTMENT. MOST POLISH PEOPLE WILL BE RENTING AND PAYING THERE RENT TO RICH LAND LORDS LIVING IN GB AND USA.

ME THINK TIME FOR ANOTHER REVOLUTION

to think that a revolution would solve anything these days does....

i try hard not say what i think....bubba does that, but come on Hullo!!!

violence? racism? bigotry?

That's what you are saying here!!

THIS WILL MEAN THAT BUBBAWOO WILL BE A MULTI MILLIONAIRE

You hear that, BW? Will you be my sugardaddy? Me luv you longtime!:)

In all seriousness, Hullo, Bubba works for his money....he pays his dues, and he's not out to cheat anyone, so why would you begrudge him success? I'm a firm believer that a person can accomplish ANYTHING they choose, if they have the desire and determination, even the people from Poland. If you continue to believe that you will never be able to afford a home, then you probably never will.....people create their own realities!

This discussion will never end.....

Obviously some people fail to see the bigger picture and refuse to listen to other arguments.

I believe at the end of the day it's good for a country when prices/value of real estate increase....Would you prefer it if there was no interest at all in Poland from other european countries? Just think about all the foreign money being spend here.

The EU is spending millions and millions in an effort to get the country back on its feet. After decades where there was virtually no money spend on infrastructure and housing the west is picking up the bill for this. Poland wants the help from the EU, and gets all the help it needs...So being a full member of the EU your country is open to everyone to work and live.

You can't have one without the other.....
At the same time while other countries open their borders for millions of polish people, a few people do the opposite and decide to work and live in poland. Bringing and spending a lot of money and making the country better.

And still they seem to face a huge amount of negativity.

Ola and Hullo, believe me, for now it really is not easy to move here and buy property. The paperwork, regulations and rules required is beyond me.

Have a nice weekend all...

Cosmo dont be dumb, EU is not charity, they got free white slaves in our people which work for shite money taking jobs noone wanted before and buy out our homes in our homeland in order to make money on us.

In your opinion west is soooo good and we are so ungrateful. haha

West sold us 50 years ago and destroyed our land so they should pay for it now. They havent done it yet and stealing our land is not making any good for them.
