Ok dariusz, canada is full of culture and full of history, packed full of historical buildings

What are you smoking now? What does the pretty boring history of Canada have to do with computer programming?

and oh all that significance to the world. I dont brag about Britains great history cos I was not part of it.

As a matter of fact, a big part of that glorious British history was created on the backs of others - Canadians included. In WW2 of a population of approximately 11.5 million, 1.1 million Canadians served in the armed forces. That's probably the highest percentage of an entire population, except for Germany in WW2.

Canadian input in WW2 is of course claimed as that of United Kingdom.

So yeah, Canada's role in the world is tiny.

Btw. I am Polish and not a culturally starved Canadian, as you were so quick to imply.

Wales has taxing powers as well

Wow! Impressive. So wales has the same power as pretty much any small town and village in North America. Congrats!

Obviously your research in this area is lacking just as my research in the area of some old Polish discoveries. If you wanna go down this route, just look at all the famous Welsh film stars in hollywood: - Zeta-Jones, Hopkins, Burton, Gruffydd, Ifans, Hopkins. Also Wales has had a massive influence on the music scene, Manic st Preachers to name just 1.

Again, how do a bunch of Welsh entertainers make the original's posters claims false?

What's really interesting is how you eventually reacted by listing some of the famous people of Welsh origin. Nobody asked you to and yet you thought you had to, huh? Do some thinking and then, next time when you hear some Poles being proud of their heritage, remember this thread and your own national pride before criticizing them for doing so.

Hence a clear sign of your desperation, unless you are under 13 years old. In which case... well, go and get yourself an ice cream.

way older than 13. and your lack of a good sense of humour is apparent. ice cream very witty.google sendzimir and you get word for word the extract you have copied( i have years of experience of z mills )

if you love poland so much why do you not live there.i would guess you were born in nth america and the nearest you have been to poland is eating a kabonos(?)sausage.

Again I am not falsifying the original posters claims, I am responding to sth u said about nothing good coming out of Wales. (read ur posts properly)

Have you ever even been to Poland? I like Polish ppl but I cant stand it when they claim that they have the best of everything, sopot Molo, gdynia aquarium (where the **** are the fish?) football, basket ball (they even think they can beat the Americans). In ur posts u came across as being exactly like this.

I never said such thing, and I certainly read my own post properly. You can interpret this any way you want. Just, please, no more Hopkins :)

Have you ever even been to Poland?

You might say I have. Until the age of 25. I was born in Poland. I went there to primary school, secondary school and got myself 2 university degrees. I'm as Polish as can be. Gotcha, eh?

I cant stand it when they claim that they have the best of everything

No such claims have been made by Poles in this thread.

football, basket ball (they even think they can beat the Americans

They can, and they did, in football(soccer). I couldn't care less about basketball.

In ur posts u came across as being exactly like this.

My posts were in response to doubts expressed by you (among others) and they all referred to computer science (see the topic of this thread). You practically asked about that info.

Now, I see that you want the last word. Go ahead, I'm done here.

What did you study ZD?

Started with psychology, then after 2nd year I took concurrent English philology. These were at two different cities so I just came for tests and exams in the psych department.

In Poland English philology comprised of linguistics and English lit. Quite different than in the US and Canada where English lit departments are separate from linguistics. I got an invite from Vanderbilt so I did English lit in the US (until money ran out) and Canada.

Eventually I got pissed off with the schematics of it all. I decided I didn't really give a damn about history of literature and who said what and why, and how it related to what someone else had said 100 or 1000 years before. Over 10 years of studies just for fun, you might say.

Finally, I settled for computer science and that's what puts bread on my table, and I couldn't be happier. I love 'em bits and bytes :)

I am trying to get my head around them. That was the main reason I joined this forum, to learn more about computers, which is working out for me, ok.

I don't think Poland should have all the credit for Enigma, becuase they only cracked the codes that depended on the "double key method". It was the crib methods and bombes, then subsquently the computer programmed by Alan Turing that really cracked the most advanced Engima codes. By 1939 all methods by the Poles had been rendered useless. The British had computer systems that the Poles could only dream of.

I think Polish people have very similar mind-sets to Russian People. Both (generally)do equially well in logical problems. The British on the other hand are much more lazy and don't put time and education into for example computer programming.

Okay I've read through this thread and I am a bit confused. We go from Computer Science to hacking to bridge to poker to military forces lol. Yes Poland is rich in computer science. And I have a few friends who attend the tech institute at Wroclaw (very smart), but from what I've seen, being a computer nerd myself, such "official" claims don't exist and same claims are SO widespread. Such as semiconductors and related programming, there are over a dozen countries (from Japan to Israel to Germany to US.etc etc) who claim to rank the ebst in all this. Truth is such intelligence comes from the individual and how they apply it to the world of technology. Such excess advacement exists in Poland but like in many countires it isn't credited, sure talk can fuel but try finding actual statstics, you have all these countries who can't put a stone on anything in such a massive world in computer science. And I say this for all countries not just Poland. As for the school rankings (were those for computer science or simply overall rankings)?

Britain too is producing some real talent.

I think with more dedication and better education, we could see the UK get higher in the rankings.

Heh, being a Polish-American I can now see why I strive to understand GIS programming but have excelled in encoding and manipulating other forms of computer games for the time being.

Great inspiration.

I agree with you. I am also a coder. I believe it's an individual talent which can not be scaled nation-wise.

It's just a shame they are paid such poor salaries where in England we have a shortage of programmers and salaries are much better.

That's because there are many Poles in UK allready and they don't want anymore Poles there right?
