"nauki przedmałżeńskie"

Can you explain??

In England (not so much now) the marriage is announced in the banns when they are read in church for the three weeks leading up the wedding, does this happen in Poland??

Sorry kaka, but it's just hard to believe. Even movie stars are not that lahdidah...

Can you explain??

"Before marriage teachings" - young couples meet with the priest, who is giving them some basic wisdome about the institution of marriage. I don't know what exactly he is telling them. It's a bit silly if you ask me. How much a priest can know about a real

marriage? :)

Yes the marriage is being announced, but i think it's only in a short time before it.

I suppose it would depend how many affairs the priest has had...lol, but yes it is a bit silly that for man who has no experience to be giving advice...I take you wont be going for instruction off the local priest when you get married then!

:) I'm interested in what he has to offer. Who knows, maybe I end up pleasantly surprised. :)

Since you are equally surprised at this situation as I am, can we agree that it's not exactly a norm among polish men to do such a careless thing? Or do you have a tendency to get easily surprised by things that are normal? :)

Defenately, we can agree that it's not exactly a norm among polish men, but still I think that they get married faster then other men.. or it's just my impression??

no, I dont have such tendency, but I have to admit that I'm quite naive

Okay it would appear that it is not normal for Polish men to marry quickly but there are some desparate ones out there that like to get married quick....hmmmm same as here in the UK really...

I agree, as Amathyst has just said, some people get married much quicker than others as they feel like the time is running fastet for them. I've noticed that for some of us who migrated to another countries of the so called "better western nations" the situaition is worse. They sill want a Polish girl, with Polish personality and Polish way of thinking. Even though they would still say outl-loud it doesn't matter: " I could be with a Canadian girld, American girl, and so on .." but in fact it does matter for them as once they get a girl they always wanted they rush for finalizing the relationship and aim for getting married faster then they would if they were still back in Poland. I would not call the desparate, but they are kind of more interested in fainding a soul-mate for life, they treat the partner more seriuos from day number one, rather than have fun and play around, definitely not interested in "one night stands" and so on.

May I apologise Mr K, maybe my use of desparate was wrong...

As for soul mate for life that is what everyone wants...sometimes it takes a while to find..

WTF are you commenting again for!

I can't speak at home. Thank you for your kindness.

I don't do gap filling exercises.

What happened to meeting a girl the old fashioned way via family and/or friends?

I don't have a clue how fast other men marry, but I think that there’s something to it that polish men generally treat every relationship serious.

I wish I knew more about what's happening these days between men and women, in terms of social issues in Poland, but from my scarce observations, I think it's just getting more westernized. This is both good and bad. Good because certain oppressions against women are more recognized and women are more independent, and bad because the media pornification has a terrible impact on how men perceive women and relationships. I think this is the major cultural issue that affects Polish people's perception of relationships and sex these days... I didn't really answer the question, just my thoughts on the topic...

Polish men on the forum could explain what their attitudes are to the above.

Sex good.....relationship bad

Interesting (sad) how the patriarchy and mysogyny always prevail, even in the supposedly more enlightened and equal times.

I'll tell you what's sad, it's sad that you took me seriously :]

Asko around, I'm not one to be taken seriously unless you can completely tell I'm being serious (usually talking about family/experiences)

So write it down on a sticky note, and paste it to the monitor:

"Laugh with gato, don't believe the gato"

I think it's a sign of respect that you're taken seriously. And I think that you should expect that some people may not know you enough to know when you're joking.

In any case, my comment was not aimed at you personally, but just at this sort of attitude - women being treated as sex objects. I'm glad that you were joking! :)

Once again, you took my response seriosuly. It's Ok though, you'll get used to me. Ask Eurola, took her almost a week for her to figure me out.

Yeah I know, it's all the TV and movies that implant it into our heads, and testosterone doesn't help. :]

I strongly believe in women being treated as individuals, not icons; It's just not a hot topic for me, though :]

It is, and I appreciate it :]

Yup, I just like people to figure it out themselves... :P

Well, I have much more respect for men to know that they are human beings with full consciousness and responsibility over their behavior. To say that they are ruled by media and testosterone is to say that they are not smart enough to know what they're doing. While some men certainly are (and so are some women), there are many men who prove this "theory" wrong :).

I strongly believe in women being treated as individuals, not icons

You will say that I'm taking you too seriously, but it's the topic that I take seriously really :) You certainly have a healthy attitude. Good to see that :).

Don't know if Polish-American men are different than men from Poland.
As others have said, people are different, so its hard to generalize. My thought is that Polish men, on the whole, are hard-working, family guys. Work hard, play hard. On the whole, polite. They love their families and wives. They like meat and potatoes. They are happy with simple things. They are physical. They like tossing the football, building things, roughousing with sons. Spiritual. Catholic.

I think they also like as much lovemaking as possible, at least twice a day, more on the weekends, and, like all men, want to find a knockout woman with a heart of gold who wears sexed-up clothes. Every man wants that. This is possible in the context of a committed relationship. And it's not a sin to be sexy.

Polish men are good friends, sons and husbands and I think treat women fairly and are protective.

ok here is my opnion on polish men. I do think that there is somthing special about polish men, over all they seemed to be well balanced and know what they want in life. They are very sexy and know how to take care of a woman. They work very hard and enjoy life. I really rccomend polish men. There is only one problem with polish men is behind every sexy strong beutiful polish man is an controling mother. So please sexy men cut those apron strings.
