How much Zloty to have an average life in Poland?

Harry:
You left Poland in 1986, correct?

Incorrect.

So when was it? 1987? Or 1985? I remember that it was a couple of years before communism ended. Certainly more than two decades ago.

Either way, wouldn't you agree that it's long enough ago that you have no clue about the cost of living in Poland right now.

just here?

Just since you threw your toys out of the pram and told the mods to go f*ck themselves.

No, I wouldn't agree with that at all, especially that I pay various things bought by my family in Poland. That, however, does not include cat food.

Just since you threw your toys out of the pram and told the mods to go f*ck themselves.

Whence such cut-off lines?

Btw. the half-brain deserved that, and in fact one thing that I failed to mention that day was that PF is f*cked anyway. Mods have no control over it. They are consumed by moving little translation threads all over the place, while ******** (like yours and mine) and hatred (like yours) are oozing from the pages of this forum.

You haven't lived here for 20+ years, you clearly have no idea how much life here costs. How much is an average gas bill for a two-room flat? How much does a two-room flat cost to rent? How much does a litre of milk cost? How much does a pack of smokes cost? How much does a four hour train ride cost? How much does a 15 minute tax ride cost? These are things you have no idea about, so perhaps you might like to not give advice as to how much it costs to live here? Or at least preface your comments about how much it costs to live here with the words "I haven't lived in Poland for more than two decades but ..." ?

Btw. the half-brain deserved that, and in fact one thing that I failed to mention that day was that PF is f*cked anyway.

Those would be very much your opinions and not ones which I would share. They would also be very much off-topic. Might I suggest that you start a thread in the appropriate forum entitled "The mod is a half-brain and PF is f*cked anyway".

How much is an average gas bill for a two-room flat?

No idea. I have no clue what it costs to heat a 2 bedroom apartment in Ontario
Gas for a 5 bedroom house in Poland costs on avg 500/mo.

How much does a two-room flat cost to rent?

Asked my mother-in-law in Poland. She has no clue.

How much does a litre of milk cost?

too little to worry

How much does a pack of smokes cost?

what brand? (cigs are not an essential part of cost of living).

How much does a 15 minute tax ride cost?

At what distance and in which city? what brand? (cab rides are not an essential part of cost of living).

These are things you have no idea about, so perhaps you might like to not give advice as to how much it costs to live here?

And where did I give advice on the cost of living in Poland? Can you quote me?

*flat with 2 rooms (its called M3 in poland, 2 rooms + bathroom): in Lodz 500-700zl + bills
*milk: boxed 2-2.5zl, in plastic 1.5zl (i have no idea how its called in english :):P )
*if the marlboro are our determinant, you will have to pay 9.60zl for a pack
*hard to say in minutes, when i take a taxi from east to west part of the city i pay 30-35zl :(

Is it really that cheap in Lodz? That is unbelievable...that is less than HALF of Warsaw

it's true, lot of my friends live in rented flats. but i was thinking about M3 flat for 3-4 people, so if you want to rent it for your own you will have to pay much more... 2000zl (but i guess you won't need such a big flat for your own) :)

^Yeah, but the guy's only been in the English speaking world for 2+ decades. Give him a break!

Harry, you live in Poland for last 15 years and you don't speak Polish at all so it's not your place to comment on that point.

What is the sales price of a flat in a good location in Warsaw ?
2 rooms, 1 saloon, 90 m2, middle floor in 10-15 years old building.

Would depend on exactly where you mean by "a good location". Probably going to be between 750,000zl and 1,000,000.

The location white-collar workers live. Not very rich, middle and upper middle class.

You want to name some neighbourhoods which fit your definition?

No, only the price range. I want to compare with Istanbul.
Do you still say between 750.000 - 1.000.000zl ?

I'd go with between 8,000zl and 11,000zl per square metre but it could be slightly less (if the property faces a loud road, is ground floor, etc etc).

Thanks Harry. The prices are similar in İstanbul.

Are you telling me that people living in Olsztyn on the average wage of 2500zl a month walk around ransacking rubbish bins for food and clothing in order to survive!!!

What sort of nonsense you are writing.. You may want to itemise your expenses and prove your point.
5000zl a month brut is a good income and the average Pole would live good on this money.

(unless your a gambler or drunk)

You can get by on next to nothing. Fair enough, at the moment I am hardly living an exuberant lifestyle. But I am eating and living in decent conditions. And keep in mind I don't even have a wage yet. I lived happily enough in Krakow on about 2000pln a month. I am planning on earning more than that in my new career...which should lead to a good number of nights out and a very comfortable life for between 3-4k a month. It depends the lifestyle you want to lead...I can easily spend 1000pln over a weekend...but you don't need to live life to that sort of excess, and if you do, it's not your bank balance you should worry about!

3000zl nice life

"nice life" means what for you? going to cinema few times in a month, and few times restaurant for dinner in a month... if so, yes 3000zl is enough for nice life.

i dont think it is nice life. if you want to name life here like nice, you should make at least 5000zl net. i dont speak about big cities like warsaw. in such big cities at least 7000zl you need.

Bullcrap.
Nice life starts at a minimum of $500,000 a year. And that's a bear minimum to call it nice (a few cars, huge home on a substantial gate lot for privacy, with water frontage, a daily cleaning and catering service).

It really depends on what your lifestyle is like! If you want to go and drink at the most expensive bars and eat out most nights then of course you are going to spend more!

I have lived in Warsaw for 4 years and I would say that for one person you need at least 3000z in hand after paying rent and bills to live a comfortable lifestyle and going out to averagely priced bars and restaurants a few times a month.

Rent here is extortionate.

I am moving to Poland at the end of the year, and I'm going to have a guaranteed income supplement of about 2400pln net per month while I study Polish fulltime (ish). My girlfriend is Polish and thinks that my money combined with her working full time should be enough for a nice small flat that is centre of Warsaw and a reasonable lifestyle. I have a couple of questions:

My girlfriend has got Magister from U.Jagiellonski but she's worried that she won't be able to earn much more than 2500pln a month. Is she under-optimistic about the state of the Warsaw job market?

I don't absolutely need to get a job, but I'd like to work doing something part time after not too long. What sort of job can someone with a good BA, but who can't speak much/any Polish get in Warsaw?

Cheers, Peter

having MSc means nothing in Poland... that's just a prerequisite for almost any job... now talk about her specialization, experience, professional certifications and so on...

I have almost never heard of anyone that can't speak Polish getting any other jobs than teaching English. But then you need a TEFL or something like that. Many educated people leave Poland because they can't get a job.

thanks esek, I'm not worried about her, just asking for an opinion, which sortof confirms what I've heard.

SzwedwPolsce, thanks for the advice. I don't have a TEFL but I don't really want to do that either. I was thinking that once I've been there six months or something I might know enough to get a job: do my Polish skills need to be approaching native speaker before I can move out of the expat job market? I wouldn't really care if it was 10zl/h doing something menial (though of couse that wouldn't be ideal), because my aim is to assimilate a certain level of Polish-ness, not to be rich.
