How do Polish people view themselves?

What, you don't think there are hard working and committed people here, Przemas?

Is that so depressing as to refer to a morgue? ;)

Please don't joke with me Seanus, I'm on edge here pertaining to my commitment to the work I must take care of that is on a very nearby horizon. I have no time for pleasantries or remote spiritual amusement. I work to live and live to work. Above me clouds of gray and a thousand bills to pay. Blame the Germans for my plight; blame the Soviets for my might.

I work to live and live to work

I resent this sort of outlook...

That is how some people live and work though Cheery. They may not want to but to get by, they must.

Why not?

Maybe he's not joking?

They moved my post but that's ok

Grand.

@MareGaea

The Polish people has been superior in many ways for a long time. like 400 years ago we were one of the largest country in the world and had major impact on the European Culture and economy. And our Nobility was by far the richest nobility in Europe. At that 1 point 5 of the richest Noble families in Poland had more land then whole france. But that's the past, but we still have the proudness in our blood i guess. We are a proud people with a rich History.

I wasn't aware of any competition. I believe in embracing other cultures, I love doing this when I travel and usually buy a souvenir as a reminder of that country. Every country has its history/culture and promotes it through various outlets. Impact on European culture? Scottish culture is quite different from English culture, yet we live on the same island. Imposing culture isn't 'noble', sharing is. What is European culture?

Land can be acquired in many ways, imperialism being one of them.

Scotland has very rich cultural traditions and history but I wouldn't describe it as "superior", just different.

A lot of past simple used there, David :)

The best way to counter, as you well know my learned friend, is with reason. Declarations of supremacy/superiority smacks of sth more sinister.

Agree. However, it's maybe a little off-topic but there is something bad and common between people from British Islands (Irish, English, Scotch, Welsh) - they, unlike Poles, don't know much about their own culture and history.

I don't want to generalize, but so many times I asked them for explanation about some bank holiday (usually where they came from), historic event or person.. Unfortunately in nearly all cases the whole answer I got was "Huh?".

Face of people listening to you when you explain them their own culture - priceless. ;)

I'm not much into generalization. Just wanted to share with you my own personal observation. Hope I didn't offend anyone.

Not at all. Most Scots are aware of their history and culture.

Still, more importantly, they are aware of their present and future.

Hahaha, good man dave! Did I just hear your face walk in to a door??

I asked them for explanation about some bank holiday...

Thanks WooPee, feel free to enforce my point about polish people and the gateways to knowledge...could you imagine? You get a bank holiday(sweet!) and some pole, with his nose in the air asks you of the reason for that particular bank holiday??....

"WHO NEEDS AN EXPLANATION FOR A FAAACKING BANK HOLIDAY YOU SAD, PATHETIC PR*CK!!!WHY CANT YOU JUST ENJOY THE DAY OFF???WHY??HUH???"

Thats the only explanation I need...

Because I want to know some basics about place that I visit.

Usually bank holiday means some very important historical event like independence day, constitution or just simply some tradition (example of St. Patrick's day).

lol. Yes, I enjoy the extra paid holidays off from work, but I like to know the reason for them too! Should I be wondering about my X-mas day off? Or 4th of July? I do want to now. Knowledge is power.

"WHO NEEDS AN EXPLANATION FOR A FAAACKING BANK HOLIDAY YOU SAD, PATHETIC PR*CK!!!WHY CANT YOU JUST ENJOY THE DAY OFF???WHY??HUH???"

Polish people probably view themselves as... someone with a pair of eyes, ear, some hair (usually)... teeth!... tongue and a nose (with two nosetrills).

Hands, legs are there too.... and he also have a devil called to stomach...to fill which...we spend our lives.

i work with Polish people and they don't seem to view themselves superior to anyone else. i'd even say they often underestimate themselves. but yes they are proud people they like to highlight their bravery in history.

they tend to look down on russians ..but russians don't?

people are the same all over the world. there are arrogant Poles, arrogant British, arrogant French arrogant Dutch etc etc. for what to make such stupid generalizations...

Some view themselves in a superior light, others view themselves in a more lowly and humble light.

but russians don't?

Some do (usually those who've got nothing to boast of in their pathetic life) but the vast majority either don't care or friendly.

From what I've seen that kind of attitude inheres in Poles (towards Russians) a lot more often than vice versa. Not that I'm frustrated with that... I even see that in rather optimistic colors. The more arrogant people in Poland the better look sane Poles against the background of them.

I've seen some of the people that say such things and they have complexes. It's a means of carving out an identity in many.

There is good and bad and crap in everycountry people shouldnt think they are better then somebody else especially if you are in a country not your native land.

That's true. We are not here to tell people what's what in their own backyard, especially in a country like America which was nice enough to grant opportunities to foreigners. Sometimes you are only as good as your opportunities made you in life.

Yeah look, you can't put up with that.. he's trying to make you ashamed of who you are. Polish women do the same thing. I know this believe me. This is precisely why I come on here and delight on going head to head with these arrogant Europeans bastards. They inherently think we're are some clowns about two iq points above an amoeba. Most of them haven't even had a shower today and don't know jack about the US.
