Simply not true.

Are you sure, Harry? Or are you thinking of the under 18's and those living abroad ?

what for though?

My Polish passport was issued in London and I haven't had any problems using it as ID so far. I'm asking all this as I want to register myself at a particular address (zameldować się) but I am not sure if I can do this with the passport or whether I need the dowód. Does anyone know?

Does anyone know?

Nothing is clear on this thread. Even what is on the news is vague.

If you live in London you don't need a Polish ID... I think.

The problem with the new ID is that if you want something in Poland, like credit, you will need the new card.

It seems that the stories about the huge fine are rubbish.

If you are not sure about anything, give the Polish Embassy a call.

Really ? Often you have "numer i seria dowodu osobistego", so what do you use to write there ?

My passport number. But from memory, it usually says "dowodu osobistego/paszportu). Will pay more attention from now on.

(zameldować się)

i'm guessing that is exactly where you'll need it.

"numer i seria dowodu osobistego",

there also seems to be another number.. can't remember what they called it. any idea? the consulate had some kind of acronym for it but i surely can't recall what it was.

Not sure about under 18s but Polish citizens living abroad certainly do not need a Polish ID. They don't even need a Polish passport unless they want to use one while travelling abroad. That said, if you're a Polish citizen and want to enter or leave Poland, you must have a Polish passport in order to do so.

apparently not - I got a friend to call someone who works there to check! But I still have to complete the process so I'll let you know if it's true of if we were just fobbed off.

Do you mean PESEL? It's in the passport as well :)

yeah Pesel, thanks.. i'll have to check my pass to see if it is in there because i have never had one and the consul had an issue with that but then just let it go as there really wasn't a damn thing i could do about it.

Whatever happens there is no big fine, as in the thread title. You might have to cough up a small amount of cash though.
