What makes you proud to be Polish?

It seems to me russians have a totally different view on freedom than catholics.What is freedom for a russian is torture for a catholic.

Byzantine history is very interesting.Do you know that stuff?You think Kremlin corridors look like labyrinths in Constantinopole palaces?
Fourth crusade was terrible.Crusaders against Christians.
But Russians also attempted to capture Constantinopole,didn't they?
And why did they not send troops to fight the Turks preventing the siege?The Poles sent(but were defeated in Bulgaria).

I am proud to be Polish because the Polish are stubborn and strong. That is the only reason the country and language survived. No matter what they would not let their identity be taken from this. I learned this from my grandmother who came to the US to send money back to Poland before the depression. Only I just realized it in the last 10 years. I have been to Poland only once, for three weeks, and I cried the whole time. I was there during communist rule and it was sad to see what everyone had been through and were still going through, and how strong they were. I am proud of being Polish.

We have never been broken, We never accepted Russian/German occupation. We speak our language, we have our culture, and we are independent again.

I love being Polish :). Of course I am only 3/8 Polish, but it is my main origin since everything else is so spread out and insignificant. My grandpa was a WWI vet and my family was opressed in Russia from what I know and I am proud that we were able to get through all of that crap.

I'm proud to be Polish because Poles tend to be modest and humble.

One thing I am impressed by is of all the many countries in Europe, yours hosted the Jewish community for many hundreds of years. And, despite anti-semitism (which was everywhere in Europe anyway), seemed to get on pretty well.

It wasn't Poland's fault that the Germans used your country as a burial ground for their hateful crimes.

I am a very nice shy person but I don't get along with polish people.I have only one polish friend and he is my dentist.He is half italien and does not even speak polish.

Polish people these days are vey rude.Alot of polish people hate the jews.Even, my own parents.I love the jews,even they culture.Its funny how the polish people are: They made peace and they are friends with the germans but they hate the jews ( i have nothing agast the germans today).It is like the polish people forgot that the germans were the nazis. Polish people have the dream of "america".That annoys me alot.I understand that they want to earn some money but some of them want to be american.Many polish people don't like the russian because of politics.That really bugz me because I love russia.It is quite obvious that we come from the same breed, we speak similar languages and we have entangled history and culture.Polish people with there kelbasza!! It seems to be an endless debate about the Jews and their role in Europe, I would imagine that you could easily write five or six Phd thesis on the topic of Jews various roles throughout history in Eastern Europe. The Poles love America because during Communism they all watched American films presenting the all American dream of wealth and profit, large detached houses with two big cars in the driveway. Poles are a strange two faced lot-not my cup of tea at all. They will shake your hand and smile while their best friend robes your wallet of all your loose change. The Poles hate the Russians because the Germans destroyed Warsaw so it must be Stalin's fault it is always someone's fault-not ours. The Poles never accept responsibility for anything. The Russians saved Kraków but the Poles never mention that at all. In fact, it was the stupid Poles themselves who destroyed their own heritage by building a steel plant there.

In fact you know s.hit, as usual. Nowa Huta was built to counter the ati-communist resistance of Cracovians. Commies (similar to the ones you came to love and admire while studying in Moscow) wanted to bring down the high intellectual level of the Cracow area by introducing masses of blue collars and former peasantry. In the end Soviets rather regretted saving Cracow.

Im proud to be polish because:

- I love polish, beautiful girls
- people are happy, despite of a low living standard
- sense of humor
- we have a figther mentality, despite of the number of soldiers (I/II WW)

Im ashamed to be polish, because:

- our politicians are faggots
- i hate our leaky streets

you know. Ive come across some posts.. not here, but in other forums and such
saying we ( polish Americans) dont have any rights to be proud of being polish. but
its not about the proud.. we feel alot of things besides proud..

Im only going to speak for myself though because its my true feelings..
I am proud of my heritage, at some point growing up I had not felt this way because
of the teasing in school. but I grew up and realized that was kids being stupid and
no one really showed me anything about my heritage, my grandmothers and grandfathers were all gone ( I was two when my moms mother died) so my parents

didnt teach us what they were taught.. WHY?? well its to late to even ask them that
question.. before when I was growing up. that wasnt a important question as it has
become now..

yes we are American. but we also are polish. and so many want to re-kindle that
in their lives.. and its sad when someone comes along to tell you what you can and
cant be proud of.. or what your supposed to feel and not feel..

I feel a balanced Pole.

I am proud of certain things typical of Poles: stubborness, resistance to tyranny, sense of humour, hospitality, individualism, Polish women and culture.

I dislike other typically Polish things: mess, propensity to quarelling and anarchy, disregard for law.

All in all, it all gives a perfect balancee.

One truth: Poles are neither better nor worse than any other European or world nation. We are differently the same as others.

I'm proud of Poland for no other reason than that my people are from there. If one can not be proud of one's roots than, what do they have? Poland's many accomplishments make me proud; her ability to stand up to tyranny, her independence of thought and will, her comparative religious tolerance, her ability to stay Polish with outside forces wished her to be something else. I am ashamed at other things. But mostly, I feel there are more things to be proud of than ashamed. We have a wonderful culture and wonderful people and that's what I'm proud of. I would never be bold enough to suggest that Poles are better, or superior, or more important than any other, but for me, they're tops. It's pride in heritage, and I would expect a Frenchman to feel the same about France, a Guatemalan the same about Guatemala, a Sudanese the same about the Sudan.

I am proud to be of Polish descent. In my city, Poles are known to be hard working, honest, family oriented people, loving, loyal and steadfast. Polish people are also known for their hospitality and for being sociable.

Maybe the downside is sometimes drinking a bit too much and the conservative nature of many of the people I grew up with.
In a larger sense, I think Poles are known throughout the world as being freedom fighters. As Lucynda noted, Poles hosted the Jewish community and many risked their lives during the war to save them. A brave people.
