What makes you proud to be Polish?

Polish people missed the boat by allowing their Government to let the USA wrangle and argue about building defense missile bases in Poland.

Do you know how we call in Poland people who speak like this? Neurotic Russians.
“What is the biggest achievement of Kremlin? Kremlovskaya.”

By the way: "How do you sink a Polish submarine?" - answer: "Put it in the water."

Yep, and the name of this submarine is "Kursk". Oops, it is russian.

Babcia instilled so much Polish in me, I don't know that it's Polish

Is that to correct spelling by chance? I know what you mean... I pronounce it bab-ooshk-a. My 'polish grandma died when I was 8. I am 1/2 Polish as well- from my mother I get mainly Norwegian.

Such ethnical motley, and why russians are only russians......

Because Poles have won their freedom after soviet occupation and they always stand behind weakest and they not bent before strongest.

Ah!!! Won!!! Pls, dont be mistaken....you didnt win, we just didn't want to supress you with bloodshed.....
I should like to see how you would won your freedom, if we invaded tanks ;-))))

but it didn't happen. Do you think that is the only way to resolve conflicts or impose domination?
Your attitude to Poland is very negative. Do you know any Poliash people? Real people who struggled in order to sustain their country?
Why are you so sarcastic? You are spreading heathred on this forum towards Polish and you keep questioning everything about Poland.
You made your point, why are you keep posting? You are not interested to have an open discussion.

OK - I didn't get it then.

But, I think that Poles have absurd trait to emphasize their sufferings!!!

you might be right but it is difficlut to see it when you are one of them.
What about Russians then? Do they like to emphesize their suffering? Just wondering.
Another question: what is the comment of Russian politicians on the present conflict in Ukraine?

No, we are too big and good-natured....
Poor, poor ukraine (Little Russia) I think that it's days are numbered....

Interesting, so what is gonna happen to Ukraine ? Back to Mother Russia?

But our politics are neutra

Somehow I doubt that very much - it is such a Russin thing to say: we have nothing to do with it.
Wasn't the Russians who tried to poison Juszczenko?

I think Rodak has a valid point if that are his/her own observations of Poles overseas. People often behave differently when they are not in their home country and away from the constraints of family. Some people are quick to retort that its not true.. this is because Polish people do geverally have a very strong sense of national pride.. which is great, but you cant also be blind to the reality that there are plenty of Poles living overseas who do give others a bad impression of them, whether it by through theft or whatever.. of course this applies to all nationalities.. Britain is one of the worst examples of people behaving overseas in a way they wouldnt dare to at home..

there are thousands of britains living abroad and 100's of thousands that travel abroad every year - its a few that bring attention to themselves and give the UK a bad name...IMHO

sorry I should have said 'some' people, clearly not all. I also travel a lot and luckily dont generally go to the kind of places where my fellow countrymen make me ashamed to be British.. but you only have to switch on the TV to see plenty of examples.. footie matches, package holidays etc..

i do not believe in national pride or ethnic pride, because to me it is the flip side of racism and national hatred. in the last five hundred years or so, more people have been massacred, murder, incinerated, slice and diced for nationalistic or ethnic reasons than for any other cause. so, to me, when people start going on about how great THEIR country or people is, compared to others, i am not impressed.

what is beautiful in the polish tradition, though, is the commitment to freedom and, in a certain measure, equality...from beginning to end of the national story.

during the century and a half after the partitions, the slogan of the polish revolutionaries was "for our freedom, and for yours" (or maybe it was the other way around!).

that is a beautiful message, because freedom is a universal value. and ultimately, all men have less freedom when SOME have less freedom.

also, from fairly early on, the polish kingdom became democratic, with an elected king. and one of the weaknesses of the sejm, the assembly of the nobility, was that it depended so much on unanimous votes, such that a very few people could block any decision. but this defect was, ultimately, a defect of an excess of democracy.

also, among the polish nobility there was much less in the way of a formal hierarchy with different grades of nobility. there were, in reality, some noble families which were more wealthy and powerful than others. but the ranks of the nobility themselves were not distinguished into counts, and dukes, and earls etc. the way they were in other countries.

so, poland had a kind of farmer/gentleman's democracy operating when most other european countries wouldn't even consider such an idea...

these are things which one might be proud of, if you believe in national pride...

yuschenko doesn't have a strong personality.

tymoshenko does.

she is the only hope for the ukraine.
