Life / Those Stella Artois Ads (filmed in Poland) [28]

I dont know why but it does seem to make people more aggressive than the typical lagers. Even the ones which are stronger like Becks (not vier).

Similar to the depressive effects of Gin on most people.

UK, Ireland / The best place to buy a house in the UK [120]

You could try somewhere close to Lincoln. There is a large established Polish community here, housing is reasonably cheap and the location is good for the countryside/coast/EMA.

News / China to buy 150 helicopters from Poland [47]

I really think you underestimate people....most really didn't know, but that is changing as we speak

Unfortunately, i know what the 'average guy on the street' is like having spent some years publishing public register/freedom of information data on the internet and working on government projects to get everyday information to the 'common man'. People who work 45+ hours a week for a 'meagre' paypacket are more concerned with how far their money goes rather than is this product 'morally sound'. As with most things in life, money talks and to the masses they do not care as long as the product does its job be it made in China or Taiwan or anywhere else.

Nike was critisised for many years for using sweat shops and child labour by the Press. Did it harm them? No, free publicity of their products. When a brand is endorsed by Thierry Henry/Michael Jordan/Tiger Woods who cares where it is made. It is a sad endictment of our times but unfortunately true.

"Only someone with money can have superior morals."

News / China to buy 150 helicopters from Poland [47]

No, I think you will find that lots of people are well aware of where most things are produced

How naive you are. The average guy on the street doesnt know or/and doesnt care where the product is from as long as it cleans his teeth/makes him coffee etc. Most people are so detached from the suffering of others that they do not care if a 6 year has worked for 20 hours a day to make his childs toy just as long as it does the job and is cheap.

The rules of supply and demand are what is making China strong.

News / China to buy 150 helicopters from Poland [47]

It appears that you know very little of what actually is produced by the Chinese. Look at the recent stories in the USA of contaminated toys, toothpaste and animal feed. Most people didnt even know these products were produced in China before the reports. When a country the size of the US has to import dog food it goes to show the influence that Chinese industry has. This is why most western countries are now looking to China for trade agreements and alliances.

Any attempt to boycott ALL chinese products would cause numerous industries to collapse and seriously harm the world economy no matter how much people dislike the fact.

Love / Polish girls and this age thing? [173]

"So Debbie Magee, what first attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels?"

When i was in Poznan i saw lots of younger women wearing fur coats and looking very well maintained, unfortunately they all seemed to be with old, tubby, bald men wearing black leather coats and smoking heavily.

Then again in my local Tesco i have seen several Asian women dolled up on the arm of fat, tweed wearing farmers.

So England and Poland are not so different.

UK, Ireland / New British Based Points System [30]

Dont you go ruining Namibia with your 'dodgy' emigration ideas. Frankie Fredericks would have a nightmare.

You could try Columbia though. :-)

Travel / Tips for driving in Polish cities [29]

Will be in Wroclaw again in April and this time hiring a car. I have never driven outside of the UK and so this is going to be fun and stressful! Must remember to drive on the wrong side of the road, GTA style!

Any tips on driving a car in a Polish city?

Travel / Wroclaw Train station to the Airport [15]

The distance did shrink but so did the bus. It was no longer visible from outer space :-P
Lots of people getting on and off and the traffic wasnt good. Bus only scrapped 1 car though! :-)

No one has been arrested for the attack. How do we know who did it? Maybe it wasnt a British person, could have equally been, Russians, Portuguese, Kurds, Iraqis or even other Poles.

Food for thought.....

HE WASNT STABBED!!!!!!!!
No excuse for an 'unprovoked' attack but lets not upgrade the crime to suit an arguement.

I stabbed the guy

G you go out in Boston?? Brave man!!! :-P
If you read the story properly, the guy wasnt stabbed. He has minor cuts and has probably been released from the Pilgrim already.

Im afraid its not funny G. Maybe taking was the wrong word. Its a fact that the gangmasters employee the people willing to take the lowest wage and that is the immigrants particularly the illegal ones as they have no one to complain to and are just grateful for being here and having a wage.

Comes as no surprise. Boston isnt a nice town. Its a place with a high number of immigrants from all over the World; Poland, Russia, Portugal, Iraqis, Kurds etc. Some pubs have signs up stating "No English" on the doors. Large scale fights between the various nationalities especially the Kurds and Iraqis occur on a regular basis.

Lots of BNP support among the white working class. Most work is unskilled and low paid and with immigrants, often illegal, taking jobs there isnt much left for the poorly educated.

UK, Ireland / National Holiday To Celebrate Britishness Could Be On It's Way [83]

ShelleyS

Im afraid i disagree all of what you have said. Theres a type of tea called 'English Breakfast tea' doesnt mean the act is called that and it never has anywhere i have been. Never heard of English tea cakes, just tea cakes, (have heard of English breakfast muffins, love those!) and when people talk about louts abroad they usually say English as that is the typical attire they wear --> England football shirt and England flag. Brits abroad are usually classed as ex-pats in my experience.

it's only the English that are happy with the title "British

Im English and im more than happy to be called British. Hate to be called English.
For me and most of the people i know, being English is associated with drunken louts and chavs. Being British is more about stiff upper lips, crumpets on the croquet lawn and tweed.

Another holiday is needed in the UK. We have fewer national holidays than most of Europe and why not celebrate being British.
No im not english, im British, never called myself English but then its probably a class thing.

UK, Ireland / Immigrants in Peterborough [9]

High wages have drawn scores of Eastern Europeans to at least one corner of England. But not everyone welcomes this new workforce even if unemployed locals themselves refuse to do the same jobs.

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7288430.stm

Quite an interesting read. The only people who come out looking bad are the work shy 'British' chavs

UK, Ireland / Living and Studing in the UK? [3]

From what I have looked up, prices for a 1 bedroom flat, range from about 500 to 700 pounds per month, is that right

Depends where you are thinking of studying. 500 pounds will get you a small house in most towns and some cities (NOT London).
