It was once a week and the BBC made it look much worse than it was, In reality travelling from Poland to the UK by air takes no longer and is no more stressful than driving from say birmingham to london to work at the weekend which a lot of uk based doctors do.

I've did this with the 7 series when i bought it with a knackered box, limped it onto the nearest motorway, transfailsafe came up on the screen the aa delivered me a skoda and i drove home, my car was delivered to my door later that evening, my mate fixed it for £30 and job done.

BTW that is an ace idea harry, do they ask many questions when doing this? it could save me a fortune on my fuel bill.

you're probably going to be looking at 35 mpg average from a modern diesel transit, depends where in wales you are coming from but from Calais to Poznan its 700 miles so you're probably looking at 1000 miles each way, diesel on the continent is about 90p per litre so say £4 every 35 miles you'll need 28 gallons, say 30 for arguments sake thats £120 in fuel + £30-60 for the ferry and then loads of red bull to keep you awake, it might not work out any cheaper in all honesty, What about getting that guy delphian raves about to give you a quote?

I usually budget on around £200 each way from Cornwall to Poznan in a 7 series BMW so if you budget about the same you should have some change, are you running petrol or diesel?

From a different perspective i did it on £120 in a 1.8 mitsubishi colt but that was driving like a saint.

Also use norfolkline from dover to dunkirk as its loads cheaper.

Not really, i usually take a gift and as another poster has suggested the couple usually make an inventory and people choose what to buy from a list, most shops have the facility to do it online. Simply handing over cash is a bit thoughtless and its a bit like buying a ticket for an event. It also makes to clear how much you have spent on the gift too.

You should look at spending around 2 years wages to get something decent. In Poland its perfectly normal to take out a massive loan to buy an engagement ring and then another larger loan to pay for the wedding ring and wedding.

On a serious note where are you based? Jewellery is really expensive in PL, If you are going on holiday to turkey buy one there as you will get much more for your money.

No, we can barely look after our own people thanks to the labour government, I know for a fact that we won't be looked after in Poland.

Regarding converting it to EU spec I can email you the SVA checklist which is a test done in the UK, The checklist could be used as a guideline. I also used to deal with several companies specialising in various things to convert JDM cars to UK spec, speedometer conversions, piggy back ecu things to alter the lights etc, If you need any help i could give you some advice, I spent 2 years of my life importing cars from Japan to sell in the UK and would be happy to help.

Regarding keeping it, With a 5.6 litre engine I think you may find petrol a bit of a pain in the wallet, on the same note as fuelling you may need to adjust the timing so that it runs on EU grade fuel which is minimum 95 octane but i'm assuming that it will be fitted with a knock sensor which will adjust things accordingly, Would be worth checking out in case it causes any damage ie burt out valves etc.

Personally i would get it eu compliant and sell it over here for a tidy profit, depending on year you could probably easilly get 70k pln for it (assuming its a 2005 model)

I do yes but won't touch a drop ever if i'm driving, There is no excuse for drink driving and people who do so are effectively wielding a fully loaded weapon in a public place whilst unable to make proper judgments. I see Poland has a problem with drunk drivers as either 90% of road users are just simply unable to drive properly or they are pissed, I just assumed the latter due to how erratic they are.

Thank you for that reply, Is it actually true about the laxative properties of certain foods being used to combat the overall greasiness of many foods?

It made for interesting reading as both me and my G/F have often wondered why polish people are so thin yet the food appears to be very fattening,

Since i've been driving around poland i have seen some crashes in some truly idiotic places, Theres shrines to people who have died on a straight bit of road etc, Most of the drivers think that indicators are an optional extra and only overtake when theres traffic coming the other way,

British drivers are the best in europe and our roads are among the safest,

Think about it how many successful motorsport drivers have come from Poland?

from the UK we have hundreds of motorsport legends in rallying, formula 1, touring cars, etc

Anyway back on topic, No sympathy for the guy who died, it was his own fault and there is no excuse whatsoever for drink driving.

Not everything, just the attitude of people here, the roads and the food, I like the way everything is so cheap and i also like the weather.
