UK, Ireland / What do Polish people think of Ireland and the Irish? [50]

English people on the other hand aren't so well received - I've had comments about being English on the tram before, only for my girlfriend to tell them that 'Actually, he's Scottish' - and it being met with big smiles.

Everyone loves an underdog.

not in.my experience or in the experience of anyone I know,

Not my experience either. I've never had anyone be anything other than fine with me although I cant tell what they say about the Anglik behind his back. As long as they kiss my arse when they're talking to me thats fine though.

History / Poland Betrayed in WW2 [243]

It is not antagonistic. Just because I'm a Brit doesn't mean I cannot listen to criticism of Britains behaviour.
Churchill was a bastard!
He had the soldiers open fire on striking coal-miners.

He could sacrifice a thousand lives and not lose a minute of sleep over it.
He was a typical upper class English gentleman of his generation.
Born at Blenhiem Palace he believed it was his birthright to rule the 'common people'.

In 1945 the British electorate couldn't get rid of him fast enough.
But he was re-elected in the 50's?

Well that seems to be a decent answer,But remember there is a difference between rescue and help the Brits helped us but technicly did not rescue us.I agree with you churchill was a basterd

He was a bastard but he was a wartime leader in opposition to Hitler. He was the man for his time, a wartime leader who looked anachronistic in peacetime. Churchill has said he was born for the task of leading Britain in WW2, a statement that given the outcome is hard to disagree with.

News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

We will never know. France had also said they would be assisting.

If we dont know now, with all the facts at hand, how were we supposed to know then?

Don't get me wrong I don't blame just Britain, and maybe if Britain did react the way I feel they said they would, we may not have stopped the war.

If Britain had done what you're suggesting it would definitely have stopped the war although not in the way you think. Quite the opposite in fact.

You cannot just say "Britain's air power" as Poland was fighting.

Polish and British air power was enough to beat the Germans in 1939? Is that what you're saying?

I really feel telling Poland dates and times they would be there with no intention of following through was very wrong.

Britain specified "dates and times" when they would invade Germany? Can you provide a source for this bombshell?

Life / Is it safe for me and my Asian friends to come to Poland? [44]

Wow thats a pretty ignorant thing to come out with ! Every time I come on this forum I'm blown away by the bigoted views that belong in the 1950's !

If they where born in England they are English. Fact. ShellyS are you so damn sure of your 'racial purity' going back many generations that allow you to call yourself english, polish or whatever !!?? Take a look at your family tree and you will probably find you are a mongrol like most of us !!

I'd say they were British not Asian or English. English is more of an ethnic term whereas as British is more inclusive. I dont know many asians who will say they're English rather than British.

Life / Is it safe for me and my Asian friends to come to Poland? [44]

As a brit that not only feels at home here, but feels 100% safer than living in London, im concerned by this question raised.
Why would someone ask that, due to their skin colour if its safe to go to a sophisticated European city? what do they thinks goign to happen? there going to stopped at customs and told to go home?

Ridiculous.

Everyone is free, go where you like. Stand out, blend in. It DOESNT matter....christ, it makes me angry.

You dont think there is a problem with racial attacks in Poland or you think that the victims should just ignore it?

News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

Maybe get in a plane and attack Nazi's?

With what? Tell me about the air power of Britain in relation to the Germans in 1939. Give me some facts rather than journalism.

When you declair war, you don't sit and wait and tell the ones under attack your on your way.

You're talking in you're normal woolly generalities again and being cavalier with the facts. Are you saying everyone who declares war should attack immediately regardless of capabilities? Be specific.

Now now Kilkline, it would take an ounce of intelligence to distinguish between the two. You're asking a bit much there.

A man can dream cant he?

Although maybe I'm insane as one definition of insanity is to do the same thing again and again and expect a different outcome.

And you need to understand the tactics of bait and switch. Allow me to explain: Poles (Plastic and otherwise) whine for 35 pages about being betrayed. Some people tell them to get over it, others tell them to stop lying. Then somebody points out that if Poles want to see really good examples of how to betray allies, they should look at what Poland did to Ukraine in 1921. A Pole then posts about how GB is as bad as the Nazis. All discussion about how the Poles stabbed the Ukrainians in the back and then stole their land is supposed to stop as everybody is distracted by the statement about GB and the Nazis.

You forgot the last bit about how the slanderers will then return to their original whine that was answered 10 pages earlier.

That's nothing but bs. What a lame excuse.

Thats not a response. Thats a childish bleat.

No, I never said I hold Britain soley responsible. Britain did sign saying they would help as did France, USA had not. I still feel if everyone stood their ground and told Stalin he was crazy, he would have backed down.

Still not answering the question are you Cellinski. Do you think people wont notice?

You are posting about Poland I am posting about Britain's White Paper. The White Paper, IMO makes Britain of the time as culpable as the Nazis, just my opinion. Now, this is why I question G.B. They should have let whomever wanted to move to Palestine in.

You need to understand the difference between limiting immigration to a country at the risk of inflaming the indigeneous population of a strategically important region and the using of industrial methods to liquidate 6 million innocent people.

Let's see you are giving different dates. I do believe we were talking about when Poland was attacked, correct? I also believe many meetings took place where the UK and Poland said they had each others backs, correct? Poland was attacked and with the odds being rather tipped in Soviet/Nazi power Poland still fought a very hard fight and then even after UK did not respond like they said they would, Poland military still went forward to assist UK, correct?

I dont know how many times you need things explaining to you. These points have been countered repeedtly and they still arent getting through. I'm surprised you cant speak Polish as English is obviously something you struggle with. You have failed CONSISTENTLY to respond to the number one question which your insane petty arguments raise. Namely: What should Britain have done in 1939?

And give specifics, not general gung-ho Americanisms like 'got your back' and 'be good buddys'.

Life / POLES' ENGLISH COMPARED TO EUROPE AS A WHOLE? [39]

kilkline:
I didnt have problems speaking english in Germany, I think Japanese people know it as well. So it's not economy IMHO.

Rather - "I speak english well, f* other languages" laziness ;)

If people know languages other than English, well done. However knowing English is not proof of a love and gift for languages, its proof of economic and sometimes cultural necessity.

Life / POLES' ENGLISH COMPARED TO EUROPE AS A WHOLE? [39]

So as the Brits, the Americans, the Germans and the Japanese are all bad at learning foreign languages so they've got low IQs? And yet they manage to be the most succesful economies in the world?

Maybe not learning foreign languages and having a successful economiy is related in some way. I'll leave the high IQ people to work out the link.

News / Does the polish immigration cause the increase of the interest in Poland? [20]

Actually, I've just remembered that I like Gorecki. I didnt know he was Polish though until after I bought Symphony of Sorrowful Songs. I also think that me mentioning Gorecki when I first met my wife helped me 'get my foot in the door' so to speak. I also mentioned the Pope and coal production. Spellbound she was.

News / Poland's Future Includes Fewer Poles, More Foreigners [324]

you can demand that there will be a certain alteration from their part to accommodate you since you aren't simply a guest, you bring bacon at the end of the day, you are a resident

Sure you can ask. You can even use your vote to select a candidate you think will represent you better, just like everyone else. Of course, just like everyone else your requests can be ignored in favour of the majority.

there was a group of people in the 18th century who held principals which conflicted with the existing one, these principals were freedom of speech, human rights and the right to vote ... their principals were considered alien to that society but they were nonetheless useful to the whole society, I'm not proposing a revolution like the French one but a constructive debate about what should be incorporated and what shouldn't must take place

These principals were incorporated as they were seen as beneficial to both the economy and society as a whole. What sectional beliefs are you saying would hold as much benefit to Europe?

News / Does the polish immigration cause the increase of the interest in Poland? [20]

The Polish immigration to Britain has definitly had a big effect. The interest is more in the beer, Krakow and the women though.
Polish cuisine is nothing special as its mostly pretty bland(as food from northern and eastern europe tends to be).
Polish history is only interesting if you're interested in history in the first place and then only if you enjoy tales of woe.
The Polish language is a nightmare to learn and lets be honest, if you speak English you dont really need to know anything else in Europe.

Polish culture isnt really publicised or widely known. The only Polish authors I know are Stanislaw Lem and Joseph Conrad and thats because they wrote about subjects outside of the Polish experience and so I wasnt reading them because they were Polish and I wasnt gaining any understanding of Polish culture from them.

News / Poland's Future Includes Fewer Poles, More Foreigners [324]

now when they ask for their own identity and principles to be incorporated into the social weave of the Europe society they are denied?

You dont turn up at someones house, spend some time there and tell them to change the decoration as you dont like it. Or the food. Or tell them their daughter should cover herself up so you dont get aroused. You especially shouldnt do this if you werent invited to the house but simply turned up and demanded shelter and protection or because you saw the opportunity to live in a nicer house than the one you currently live in.

Also, what if the identities and principals are in conflict with the existing indigeneous ones?

Life / When in Poland, should I be British or Scottish? [104]

Twats don't wander, twats are shown ;)

Maybe I should have said 'arseholes' instead. More approriate.

I remember being in Krakow and some foreigner didnt quite understand why he couldnt just cross the road where he liked and the driver of my bus was leaning out of the window and trying to explain it to him in as non-aggressive a way as possible. The foreigner couldnt understand Polish and wasnt interested in any explanation and told the driver 'fuk your mother!'

Everyone hearing that would have assumed that the guy was American or more likely British. Even my wife thought the guy was a Brit. I however could tell that the guy had a foreign accent and was probably a north European of some sort. The fact is that the incident would have been chalked up as another example of an uncivilised Anglik as English speaking=English person.

Life / When in Poland, should I be British or Scottish? [104]

Its weird how Poles say they cant tell the difference between an English person and a Scot yet blame the English for every p1sshead in Krakow. I've heard non-English, non-British people speaking English and being rude to people in Krakow and I bet the people who were insulted thought they were English.

Those tw@ts that wander around in kilts flashing their arses at people in the street are from north of the border by the way.

UK, Ireland / WHY DO POLISH PEOPLE THAT COME TO ENGLAND CAN'T SPEAK ENGLISH? [118]

We in Britain have been brought up with the touchy-feely, lets all be ourselves, respect other cultures whether right or wrong, mentality. Its called multiculturalism and it hasnt worked as we now have 'communities' that have become more like enclaves. Separation creates division and division creates conflict.

The American way is the best way I think as at least they've emphasised an overriding identity that can be shared by all. In Britain we think its bad manners to tell someone whos lived in this country for 40 years and cant speak English that maybe they should learn enough words to be able to fill out their invalidity benefit form without a £50 an hour interpreter.

News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

The jews living in Poland were Polish.

Debatable. Some were and some werent, from what I've read. There was a large section of Jews in Poland who despite having ancestry going back a number of generations in Poland, couldnt speak Polish and knew no Poles. Many Jews would also refer to 'Poles' in the 3rd person, not including themselves in the definition. Other Jews would identify themselves as Poles though. Not a straighforward situation.

The Poles were unrepresented, along with Yugoslavia and the U.S.S.R. It was a slap in the face, for sure. Britain didn't acknowledge those three nations in the parade, even though Poles fought alongside British.

Please have an opinion that you can back up. This one has been shown to be crap.
