Life / Cigarette Smoking in Poland [146]

I knew a guy who answered me once I asked him "Why do you do drugs?":

"I do drugs because I prefer to kill my brain rather than my liver".. ;]

And (science prooft it) smokers have no problem with Parkinson's disease

Maybe because they don't live that long to experience that :).

Genealogy / Marianna Radecki Records [3]

I could only find this reference on Marianna Radecka (Radecki and Radecka mean the same in Polish).

Life / How to Survive on a Minimum Wage in Poland? [45]

No, I'm legally [brunette] now (but was illegal for about half a year). After having got my F1 visa as a student I was legal again.. :)

Life / How to Survive on a Minimum Wage in Poland? [45]

I had to pay twice before they let me in. After that, one of the school here in the US advised me to "go back to Poland" and arrange a student's visa from there." I'm glad I didn't try their advice.. :)

Life / How to Survive on a Minimum Wage in Poland? [45]

Poles like to show off what they have.
I know a few here in the US. They have to have everything brand new. First they had to get a boat, A brand new one. Then a Yamaha motorcycle. Brand new. Now they got a brand new truck for $30.000. All on credit. They are here illegally. They don't have health insurance. I think the money got the better of them. I only hope they will be able to make all payments...

Well, on the other hand it IS good for the American economy -- because Poles seem to be very good buyers. And I think IF Poles get to get waived an entry visa to the US - that would be mostly because they are perceived as good workers and buyers.

Love / date ideas? american woman/ non-english speaking polish guy [15]

I don't know which are you live in, but if it's in Chicago area it might be a good idea to go to see a Polish movie (with English subtitles) at The Chicago International Film Festival (one of the movies is on Sunday Oct 8 5pm). [chicagofilmfestival.org/cgi-bin/WebObjects/CIFFSite.woa/wa/FilmCountries/POL] - More info here.

Maybe a nice restaurant (if he lives in the Polish neighbourhood he could show you how the Polish kitchen tastes). You don't wanna be in a place where you are the only people - as then you'd have to be talking (unless you hit it off again :).

Language / verbes and cases to use [3]

I'm afraid it's not that easy in the Polish language -- too many exceptions. Unless a professional translator would offer a hint on how to do that..

Real Estate / New flat from developer in Poland - question [5]

I wish I knew that too -- but I think you are right that completely new apartaments/new constructions are tax-free.

If you are a British citizen, nobody except for you has to know that, no? At least when you buy a property in Poland (then as a British citizen you'd have to pay taxes, but I don't think you'd have to pay taxes twice -- at least I hope :).

Food / Mushroom Picking Parties (Poland tradition) [74]

I don't think there are any regulations - you eat them on your own risk :). But Polish people are said to know which mushrooms are good and which not (usually :).

Food / Mushroom Picking Parties (Poland tradition) [74]

Yes, I remember many funny stories too. Fortunately there was always somebody to buy mushroom from at the end of the day (so that parents should think we were actually picking up mushrooms all day long :).

News / The 4th annexation of Poland - Watch LIVE now! [75]

You didn't expect Poland to become an empire within 17 years..? That's how the system of capitalism works - in the US it's the same situation (Mexicans, Poles, Russians etc.).

Travel / Traveling to Poznan [16]

1) I guess there will be about 20-40 degrees.

2) For drinking that should do :). Seriously, don't know if you want to cover accommodation
costs in that amount, but either way you should be very comfortable.

3) As safe as everywhere else -- Poznan is one of the warmest cities in Poland so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

4) Using the search tool you'll find these results about Poznan.
