Language / How Many of you love the Polish Language? [79]

Too many sz cz rz etc...

That's what i think too ;P
We could also add ć, ś, ź, ż, and the "si", "zi", and "ci" sounds ^^

It's not as ugly sounding as German but still pretty bad.

I wouldn't compare Polish to German cause it's quite different. But i do like German and "every" other Germanic languages. I really like English, Scandi languages are really nice too, even if Icelandic may sound weird... But i've never really heard someone speaking it, just seen texts ;)

as languages such as Italian and French where most verbs end in the same letters

Not really... i mean about French. I'm not a big fan of the Italian language, as i'm not a big fan of Spanish language, all these "o", "a", "i", etc. ^^ Even if Spanish was my 2nd language at school...so boring.

The French language is different, it's the most "Germanic" of the Latin languages. You won't find so many words ending in "o", "a" and "i" ;)

Life / How will I be treated in Poland by Polish people? I'm an English person. [26]

I think it depends also on where you're planning on settling down. In big cities, you won't have any problem as there are already many other foreigners. In small villages, it may be different as people are less used to people from other countries. Anyway, i think and hope you'll be great there ;) Good luck.

News / Polish - French relations [41]

I must say that Polish Wódka is easy to find here in France (Sobieski and Żubrówka)

Colmar

I've been there once, it's a lovely city and must be great at Christmas ;) Why boring ?
This region (Alsace-Lorraine) is the French Silesia ^^ Used to be German, then French, then German again...and finally French ;)

she is reall nurse ;-)

Hehe ;))

"Pologne : je t'attends" = Poland : i'm waiting for you

News / Polish - French relations [41]

Heyy ! France, i've heard that name before ;))

Yep, good relations between the 2 countries, like always.

The French companies with the largest presence in Poland include France Télécom...

My father works at France Télécom :)

About this pic, it was made by the Polish tourist office. It's humoristic, this good-looking Polish plumber says "Je reste en Pologne, venez nombreux" (=I stay in Poland, all welcome). And if i remember well, i think he's actually a real plumber :P

Then, about French people drinking Wódka and Germans drinking Vodka, i don't really know :))

I have been to France last summer and last Christmasts and I am going to visit this place once again ...

You had fun ? Where did you go ?

Look at this vid -> taken from a French TV show, with a French humorist. I think the man on the pic is the same man here in the vid (3:48)

Language / a new Polish alphabet for internet and sms.... [29]

Ó = oe, so the word ogród will be ogroed

Did you take if from Dutch ? ^^

Ą = on,om

Ę = en ,em

Aren't there Polish regions that already write like this ?...Or dialects ?...

For my part, i created a "new" Polish for fun, it looks like this :

Ja eist jak en mal kmor gobend av tvai okern,
Ja teist bem skast av pusten ale mogg nei ladst.

Life / "No sex before 18" in Poland? [25]

It will in a sense that people with be persecuted once the law is in place for having sex with the minor

How would people know that ? And what about relations between 2 minors ? It's private life.

She is obviously on a personal crusade

Hehe, yeah ;)

Life / "No sex before 18" in Poland? [25]

Ewa Sowińska has a great new idea !! After the Teletubbies gay propaganda, she wants to forbid sex before 18 (currently 16). Wow, that's a serious issue !

I don't want to hurt anyone, but is she stupid or something ?

Seriously, would a law change anything ?? Personally, i don't think so... People will act like they want to, this is simply stupid.

History / Comment on YouTube regarding Powstanie Warszawskie [32]

without the intervention and naval/military commitment of france, and the franco american treaty of france, america would never have won its independance from britain

They would have won their independence anyway, later maybe, but they would.

Life / Germans and Poles - Fiction or Myth? [127]

But the Germanophobic attitude of the Polish media, the Polish elite (e.g. those twins!) and last but not least of some of the people here in this forum seem to proof that this venomous relationship is a helpless case

Some bruises and injures take a long time to heal, but i think that most of today's Poles (in particular, the youth) aren't hostile to Germans anymore. Of course, you will always find people hating Germans and every nations that invaded and wanted to rule over Poland by force.

I don't know why but when you say "Polish elite" and then say "the Twins", it makes me laugh... ;) Maybe because "elite" sounds to me like smart people... Hehe ;)

UK, Ireland / UK Poles attack Daily Mail 'bias' [33]

Sure, but the Poles must watch not to get a bad image as the professional complainers in Europe

Don't worry, the French are the champions in complaining everytime ;)

In Europe's tabloid everybody ******* at/makes fun of another, the brits, the germans, the french....just laugh or ignore it or better even: give it back but don't complain like wussies!

Of course we can make fun of each other but when it's not fun anymore and getting xenophobic/racist, then one must defend himself ;)

Genealogy / Polish Silesians? [25]

Tomek, i'm not an expert, but that could be a mix of some German with Polish...
Szpindów...Spind...dunno if it means something in German though...

There are at least 2 different Silesian dialects (or languages), the first one, Upper Silesian, is a mix of Polish, Czech and German, but with a bigger proportion of Polish and Czech than German, and mostly spoken in the Katowice region (i'm not sure about that). The other one, Lower Silesian, used to be spoken in the Wrocław region (once again i'm not 100% sure), is more similar to German, but has almost disappeared since the German people who used to live there had to leave Poland after WW2.

Example of Upper Silesian :

Uojćec naš, keryś je w ńebjy,
bydź pośwjyncůne mjano Twojy.
Přidź krůlestwo Twojy.
Bydź wola Twoja, kjej we ńebje,
tak tyž na źymjy.
Chlyb naš každodźynny dej nům dźśoj.

Example of Lower Silesian :

In German, but with examples ;)
