News / English vs. Polish hostility [323]

Can someone explain why all the hostility that the English seem to have about the Polish people?

I work with many Polish people here in the UK.I have heard very few negative comments from the English people against the Poles.Certainly the British residents of Luton and Hatfield are making lots of money renting their houses out to Polish workers.

I have often found that negative people are cowards. They will not complain in public or say what they think to people's face - instead they use the internet to make their spiteful comments.

Please be aware that these losers are a tiny minority of English people!(maybe 1%)

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

I agree with the previous post.I work with many Polish people and I would say they are definitely no more racist than other nationalities. To be honest the only way to tell for sure is when you see as many Polish men/women in Poland with black husbands/wives/boyfriends/girlfriends as you get in England.

UK, Ireland / English people, if you feel bad about WWII, stop! [73]

Britain declared war against Germany on 3rd September 1939 - 2 days after Germany invaded Poland. That means the whole reason Britain went to war was because Poland was attacked. Some historians even claim that if Britain and France had stood back and done nothing Hitler would have taken Poland and eventually Russia and left western Europe alone. As it was all the allied nations in Europe were invaded by the nazis.Britain had the sea to defend us so we became the headquarters for resistance against the nazis. In Britain we do see documentaries which mention the courage and skills of the Polish soldiers based in the UK.

Maybe you think you were betrayed by Britain? The problem is that people all over the world think Britain is more powerful than it somtimes is.You were surrounded by Germany and Russia - both disliked Britain and the USA.Winston Churchill wanted to send weapons to the Polish resistance but the Soviets told him they would have to shoot down any British planes.

Unfortunately for Poland in the 20th century you had the misfortune to be a neighbour to 2 of the worst countries-Nazi Germany and then Soviet Russia.

You are living in a dream world - just like the Polish,French,British in 1939.Anyone can sign an agreement but none of those countries in 1939 had armies capable of defeating the Nazis. When Poland was attacked the Polish cavalry fought with men on horses against German tanks. The British and French armies quickly got pushed out of France. The Germans had built up a massive fanatic war machine - and Poland,France,England were still using equipment from World War 1.If France was attacked first and Poland went to its aid the Polish army would have been wiped out just as quick. If Britain and France had actually gone to aid Poland they would have all been defeated and the Nazis would have conquered all of Europe including Britain.

Its no good always blaming Britain for everything - Winston Churchill made decisions he didn't like but thanks to him there was one country able to fight the Nazis until the Americans entered the war in 1942.

The Warsaw uprising is another example of the Polish blaming Britain for not helping.Warsaw was surrounded by the Germans on one side and Russians on the other.Neither would allow Britain or America to drop supplies to the Polish fighters - but the Polish still decided to have their uprising with virtually no heavy weapons or ammunition. It was very brave but it was a bad decision and wasted the lives of too many people - its no good blaming Britain for your own mistakes.

You still don't get it.Forget about these graphs and statistics they mean nothing-don't you know your own history?
Germany invaded Poland on September 1st 1939.Soviet Russian invaded eastern Poland on Sptember 12th 1939.Warsaw surrendered on 27th September 1939.And still you dream that somehow Britain and France could have saved Poland.

France had 5000000 troops that couldn't stop the Germans conquering France-never mind going to Poland and defeating the Germans AND Soviets.

I already answered this:

The Warsaw uprising is another example of the Polish blaming Britain for not helping.Warsaw was surrounded by the Germans on one side and Russians on the other.

I guess the answer is knowing when to fight and when not to fight.

Yet according to you your brilliant army was killing every Nazi and Soviet soldier that entered Poland. You even believe your army could have walked over to France(how?) and defeated the Nazis when you couldn't even last 4 weeks.

cose you were doing nothing.

Like I said - less successful nations will always blame Britain for their own failures.

- The British - are bombing the German supplylines (instead of droping leaflets)

With just a few planes?
This is all fantasy stuff-get real.

And Britain after WWII is a succesful country ?

Yes,British culture and creativity continue to influence the world. We have terrible management which is why foreign managers are often better at running our companies. We lack the traditional life of France,Italy,Spain(maybe Poland?) but we lead the world in new ideas and creativity.

PS-what do you think of Germany and Russia now?

Yes - but this what you have is only a very small part of what you had before WWII

Realistically,it would be wrong for Britain to still control India,Pakistan,Burma,Hong Kong,Kenya,Zimbabwe etc.The Americans now 'control' Iraq and it is dragging them down-costing them trillions.

Britain still exerts influence via the USA.It is natural that a wealthy English speaking nation of 300 million should have more power than a tiny English speaking nation of 60 million.

your government (Chemberlain)

Chamberlain was a wretched traitor

But it would be realistic if England wouldn`t have been weaken becaouse of WWII

Yes WWII did weaken Britain but don't forget - in 1920s-30s Britain had mass unemployment, strikes, hunger just like everwhere else.Britain was still almost bankrupt because of WWI and in the great days of empire we had so many people living in absolute poverty.Britain used to send its poor people to Australia,Canada etc.People in UK have been better off since the empire was given up.

Consider this-British companies make more money in Hong Kong than they did when Britain controlled it.

I would say it`s rather the US who is exerting its influance thru the UK.. no the other way around.

Its like a parent/child relationship.
The parent (Britain) gets older and the child(USA) grows stronger until it is as strong as the parent. Then the child becomes stronger and no longer needs the parents help-but sometimes still needs advice and wisdom from the parent who has more experience.

The child has strength and the parent has experience. The parent can relax and the child must take on more responsibility.Sometimes one will do something the other disagrees with (like Britain disagreed with US involvement in Vietnam)but when things get really bad they will help each other.

A few times things go wrong. The parent should have told the child not to illegally attack Iraq but for whatever stupid reason Blair(British PM) went against his own people and supported Bush more than anyone else.

Also, its worth remembering that even EU countries have different ways of measuring crimes and what actually constitutes a crime.

Travel / pickpockets or gangsters in poland? [49]

Actually that`s not the case in case of criminal offenses - the penalty for a crime is different from country to country, but i.e. a robbery is robbery in every country in Europe.

For example,if you insult a gay person (with an anti gay comment) in the UK that is now a 'hate crime' and recorded as such. This is not the case in all EU countries-I don't know about Poland

News / Polish/German/Russian relations [304]

I asked Wujek this question before and am curious how other Poles feel. How do Polish people feel about Germans and Russians in general? The Nazi occupation was 60 years ago but Poland suffered so much do people have negative feelings about the German people?

Also,do you blame communism rather than the Russian people for what the Soviets did?
I know that if Britain had suffered in such a way as Poland (under the Nazis) there would probably still be much anger/hatred.

Life / Why do Poles drink so much? [161]

We do have a big problem here in Britain with the drinking mentality. On Friday night people go to a pub to get as drunk as possible. In some places it is difficult for sober people or families with young children to visit town centres on Friday night because of the drunken behaviour(even from girls)of gangs of people. No Shelley - it is nothing to do with foreigners. It was only when I went to other countries in Europe(especially southern Europe)that I experienced a more sensible/civilized way of drinking.I think the Polish have a problem with vodka but at least (in the UK)they mostly sit at home drinking themselves senseless and not annoying anyone else.

Why Do British people drink so much? Is it frustration, loneliness?

No it is not frustration or loneliness

I was reading article in Daily Mail saying that in general you are not very happy nation.

Do not believe the Daily Mail-they hate the government here so like to make Britain sound miserable.Actually,a recent European survey found the British(or English) are among the most content/happy in Europe

A Chinese visitor to Britain 200 years ago said the same thing about the British - many like to get blind drunk.I think some people just don't know how to enjoy themselves without drinking too much.

- people are not very close a s a families
-lack of some spirituality ( religion?)

Yes,this is true -and has been for a long time

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

Hey Wujek you are usually sensible but bubbleberry has made no racist anti-white/anti-European comments.

guest-iwona you are correct. We have a problem in England. After 1945 for 50 years we had managed immigration into the UK.Most migrants came from India,Carribbean,Italy,Poland etc and had some understanding of Britain. For the last 10 years we had unmanaged immigration when anyone who reaches Britain stays in Britain.

Each year there were up to 150,000 asylum seekers,150,000 illegal immigrants and 400,000 legal migrants.
I too hate lazy scroungers of whatever race -but their attitude is the fault of the government and system which pays them to do nothing.

I have worked with all races(Africans,Carribbeans,Indians,Chinese,Europeans,Arabs) and (despite what some newspapers say) even most Muslims are decent people. The only problem I had was with some(not all)Pakistanis.Basically, its all about education -if someone (of any race) is educated/intelligent they are ok.Unfortunately, some English and Pakistani people are not and some newspapers and stupid government/council rules(political correctness)make things worse.Despite this in many areas of London and the south-east we have a great multi-cultural society but in other areas we have a segregation disaster (blame councils/government)

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

I think this discussion has gone off track. The original question was "why are Polish people so racist".My experience of Polish people in the UK is that they are not particularly racist. They probably never saw a black person before but here in the UK they work with black/asian people without any problems.

I think that this political correctness here is a little similar to our stalinists times in 50 ( maybe it is a little harsh comparison) I am not so old by I remember my parents stories. Like If someone said political joke in the train he could be reported to police and arrested.
Not different here- anyway also left government.

Things are not that bad.According to some newspapers gays have more rights than non gays - but in reality they don't.Remember newspapers only report the most extreme cases and British newspapers are the best in the world at attacking governments/politicians/laws they dislike.

I do think that the media are putting otu a message at the moment that the gov.. is not doing it's job properly

Yes,I agree. There is a lot of rubbish in some newspapers but at least they make us aware of what is actually going on and when the government is not doing their job.Sometimes th UK press is too vicious but at least they are not like some countries where the media always lets politicians off the hook(like France).

I rememmber in England there were few cases when young, black boys were killed wthout reason- just random.

In England Africans have been killed by Jamaicans,Asians and whites killed by blacks,Chinese killed by whites, whites killed by Pakistanis,Asians killed by whites, blacks killed by asians - every race can be racist.According to the UN Britain has more successful race relations than most countries in Europe.

Abortions have also a lot to do with that issue ..i.e. in the UK there are around 200.000 abortions each year

These are official figures in a country where abortion is legal-but what is the real figure in Poland (in every country where abortion is banned there are many dangerous illegal abortions). The figure is probably similar.

Forget about racism in Poland it is only small compared to British attitude.

It should be small because there are very few black people, asians, africans, muslims in Poland.Listen,England is the 4th most crowded country in the world where different races live very closely together-not far apart like USA,Australia,New Zealand.Yes,you might hear some racist comments but the situation is much better here than any other European country(and better than Australia).

News / Poland in big development - what are the negative results? [37]

I wouldn't say I extremely like England but there are much more opportunities for people here- and at least less nepotyzm than in Poland at finding good job.

To enjoy England you need to experience the good parts - Cambridge in summer,Hitchin free festival,Brighton,Cornwall,Devon, best parts of London etc.

I Poland- we don't have so many emigrants and I wouldn't say we are very rasist but yes you can sometimes hear some remarks.

According to the UN Britain has the highest percentage of mixed race marriages, relationships and children in the developed world so I guess we cannot be that racist.Perhaps when as many Polish women(in Poland) have black/asian husband and as many Polish men have black/asian wife as in Britain then you can say that Poland is no more racist than Britain.

The actual number of illegal abortions in Poland is much higher.Until 1993 (when still legal) it was 180000 per year.

Probbaly our attitude is different

I prefer our maybe old-fashion by humanitarian Poland.

Until 1993 (when still legal) there were 180000 abortions per year in Poland.Everyone who comes to the UK think they are so much better than the British because they do not know what happens in their own country. At least in the UK we are aware of our problems.

what utter nonsense, australia has a multi culteral population with very little racial tensions, unlike that of GB,

How many aboriginal people do you know? Why are there so few aboriginal/black MPs?Why are Australians who come to London surprised by how multicultural it is - more so than anywhere in Australia? When I watch Australian TV its only white faces and a few Chinese ones-unlike here.If you look at your neighbouring countries Australia should be far more multicultural. You have almost wiped out your black people(aboriginal Australians) and the riots between whites and arab australians - I guess that is your idea of racial harmony.

do your homework before making outlandish statements.

Listen to your own advice.
