Life / How are Poles generally viewed outside Poland by other nations? [84]

...well... yeah we are suspicious sometimes, but communism is not the reason....i don't know what is the reason for it really. First of all ,there is a one rule: In 95% one Pole abroad is untrustworthy to another Pole abroad as well. I know it souds daft, but you can't help it. Can ya ?

News / Political purges in Polish politics [14]

Oh Giles, I've noticed your topics are always very political based and difficult to explain.
In my opinion (i used to lived in poland for 30 yrs) a "hardline catholic right wing government" came from "hardline catholic right wing citizens" Just think like that. Lots of them "HCRW - hardline catholic right wing citizens" still can go to ballots and express them ancient attitude to the future of Poland.

I do believe in God but i just couldn't stand this what may be called a "Catholic fundamentalism" in Poland. That was one of the reasons why a moved to UK. I'm not trying to bullshi**ing all of you. I was so annoyed... ehh this is a base for different discusion.

News / Political purges in Polish politics [14]

Another real problem in Poland is an attitude to the political "main stream". After Berlin Wall fell down political options in Poland were wavering between left and right winged orientation. Always was "far too left" or "far too right" (now is far too right) Polish government and polish electors, they always have a problem balancing a decent way :/

History / Poland - Looking back to 1990. [18]

...all this is a way deeper problem !!!

Poland as a nation always suffered from position on a map. I mean position between "anvil and the hammer" - between russia and germany. Both always tried to have them influences in Poland. Summary it's over 1 thousand years of invasions from germany, russia and other coutries. After WWII Poland was a under "russian management" for 44 years.

I do remember comunism in Poland. Was born in 1974, so i won't forget anti-communism riots on the streets with tanks, soldiers and tear gas in the air in 1980 and 1981. I won't forget 5-6 hours spent in the quene to bakery shop... it was something you guys ain't got a clue about.

About EU transformation...it will takes ages!!! I know it's may sounds daft, but my personal opinoin is: It won't better until next generation of Poles take over power in government - i mean our kids !!! Is it not great !!!

..well my kids will hold different passport than polish :)

News / Do you think that Polish catholics resent the new German Pope? [108]

Again, you Giles and your difficult topics :)

I can answer this by take my family in Poland as a base. All of them recognize Benedict XVI as a new Pope and The Man of Holy Church and the Succesor of John Paul II. In my family there's no prejudice to the fact that he is german and used to serve in Hitler Jugend (Youngster Hitler Commando) during WWII.

Please note: First wife of my grandfather from my father side and his two kids were shot in forrest by shot from short distance to the head among of rest of 300 people of village Jezierce (near Kowno - Ukraine).

Food / Polish Lunch ideas (for two Polish friends helping me in the garden) [14]

no no no !! Listen.. you may not understand me clearly. Don't mix brussel sprouts with tomato, onions and cream. Try this: chop a few tomatoes on a small bits.. not too small, add a 1 small onion (chopped to small bits) pour a bit salt nad black pepper and then pour some cream (single would do) - it's very very good amd it's like typical add-on to main courses in PL.

Language / Five Commandments for Polish Language Learners [36]

A clue for every1:
ling.pl - online dictionary - i'm using it for english - polish translations but obviously it's working "backwards" as well. Very good, better than Collins dictionary, but unfortunatelly today it's crashed or whatever :(

Ask for everything you would like to say in Polish

telefonikitka ...just ask me if you want to know anything... you know i'm living just around the corner :)

Life / To all of you who are Polish - where did you learn English? [64]

I've never learnt english (you can tell). I always wanted to learn english ..so i tried to do some translations of my favorite music's lyrics using a pocket size dictionary since i was 16-17. Then i noticed that i do understand a few lines when i was watching a english or american movie. So that was the way - Listening a lot of music and watching a lot of movies. When i came to england almost 3 yrs ago... it was a lot easier to improve my english with ...let me say basics i've had.

Love / BLACK GUYS POLISH WOMEN [809]

Nothing wrong with that - in my opinion. One of my best friends in Poland is black (father from Sudan, polish mother). So maybe i just got used to it that black guy dating a white girl.

But there's a other side of story. I think, black girls don't want to dating out of their race - and this is sad a bit because i'm so keen on a black girl.

UK, Ireland / Reasonable to move from Leeds to London? [10]

Thanx Szarlotka. It was quite helpful. Further to your post: I'm going to settle in south-west outskirts of City and obviously not going to buy a house (i know the prices :/). I'm a qualified CAD technician in building technology sector and as i know there's a massive shortage of people of this proffession in UK. So i hope moving to London may be good start to boost my career. Will see shortly.

Love / Do Polish men shave under their arms ? [45]

I'm a polish man, i'm not gay (1000% straight), i'm not a member of any swimming team and i do shaving my armpits! This is the only part of my body i shaving. I'm not doing it on the legs, chest or anywhere else. It's makes me feel clear and comfy. My personal opinion is : everybody should do it no matter their sex !!!
