Language / declension? Masz mapę gratis? how did mapa become mapę? Thanks [4]

What is this part of the polish language called and how does it work?
"Masz mapa gratis?" This is incorrect.
"Masz mapę gratis?" Correct.

How can I know when and how to change the end of the the word mapa? What is the name for this, is it a declension?

Other wrong examples maybe:
Masz lampka gratis?
Masz książka gratis?
Masz kubek gratis?
Masz krześło gratis?

Thanks.

Kto jest twój ulubiona charakter i dlacezego?

If you like you can correct my errors above also, thanks.

I think that this program is for entertainment and not to be taken seriously, it is for fun with a grain of truth.

Language / FUTURE OF VOCATIVE IN POLISH? [14]

"Gośka chodź"
"Ruszaj się dziadku!"
"Spieprzaj dziadu!"
"Szeregowcze, sprzątaj po sobie!"

I think that these are in the imperative mode, correct me if I am wrong, explain to me why they are vocative please.

They are instructions or commands telling someone to do something.

Thanks.

Language / Example sentences for different cases. [42]

Merged: kran becomes kranu, herbata becomes herbatę

why did kran become kranu? Is it locative or something else?
this is part of the sentance, wody z kranu.

Another question:
Mieszamy herbatę.
Why did herbata or herbaty become herbatę? What is the grammatical term for this?
Was it herbata or herbaty before it became herbatę?

Thanks

Travel / The most overrated or disappointing places to visit in Poland? [13]

Kraków is an overated place to visit but it is probably still the best place to visit in Poland. It is only overated in comparison to the rest of the world. Berlin would rank far higher inmho. There are more things to see or do in Berlin.

Life / Are Polish people absolutely obsessed with money? [30]

Are Polish people absolutely obsessed with money?

If you work with Poles they probably do all the overtime availeable while the locals will only work some overtime or non at all!!!!!!! A local guy will be happy when he doesn't have to do overtime and a Pole will nearly cry. I would hire a Pole any day.

Food / What Polish food or drink do you not like and why? [37]

What Polish food or drink do you not like and why?

One of my least favourite foods is galaretka for dinner, meat and vegetables covered in wobbly solidified fat, like jelly except fat and absolutely horrible.

The worst drink I have had is maślanka but this is not so bad.

Life / Are Polish people absolutely obsessed with money? [30]

Really? I think you're talking ****, as English people have always been grabbers and will take any over time give to them. In fact, I dont get paid over time, yet I generally do at least an hour extra a day...

Where does this myth that Poles work harder come from, its simply not true, the Poles seconded to my office role in past 08:30 (start is 08:30) and leave on the dot at 5!

I'd hire a person who is willing to work hard, nationality doesnt come in to it!

I agree with you, many people will take overtime when given to them but Poles are extreme in this case from my own experience, it may come from having little money before and being worried about money.

The Poles in your office reflect what someone else said, how much pay for how many hours. They won't do overtime for free if they don't have to. It is about how much they can get for the hours they put in.

Some Polish people working in different countries have poor conditions though, they have poor conditions and must do overtime for free.

Tell me, is there a way of eathing this, like pealing off the fat or do you just dig in?

Love / What do you think of Polish women who swear in English? [15]

What do you think of Polish women who swear in English? I don't think that they should translate their swearing from Polish directly into English, to me it sounds cruder in English. I think something get lost in translation, pieprz mnie sounds alot better than f**k me.

I don't mean soft swearing like goddammit or g*da*mit etc. but f**k, etc. unless the situation really warrants it and is not a normal everyday expression.

Travel / My first day trip in Krakow [9]

that will accept my poor polish

Krakow isn't the best place to practice your Polish I think unless you avoid the tourist trail and only talk to older people.

In tourist areas Polish people speak English extremely well.
Young people also learn English in school from a young age so they will be able to communicate with you no problem.

Travel / Help with travel to Gdansk [30]

I think if you learn a few key phrases it will be appreciated by anyone you meet, please and thanks etc and how to ask for something, the basics aren't so hard if you don't worry about grammar.

But as I continued to speak in Polish, he soon gave up on the English :)

Is it rude to speak in Polish when someone is speaking to you in English?
I have done this also and kept on doing it when they kept on speaking English. It was just basic stuff so if they switched to Polish it would have been ok, they would ask chips or potatoes and I would say ziemniaki etc. Kind of like a battle of two stubborn people.

I am over the moon with happiness though when we speak only polish, they understand and I understand! Amazing, it makes my day, it is addictive and then it is a complete downer if I speak English later, I don't get any buzz from meeting Poles who speak English. I hate to speak English in Poland.

I would prefer to do without something than ask for it in English.
