Law / Opening a gym in Gdańsk [30]

Not if it's not safe – which is isn't if you've got Bon Jovi blasting through your headphones when someone is trying to warn you a falling dumbbell is heading for your foot.

Ummm.. I listen to loud music every second of my workout when I'm in the gym and I've never had a problem. If somebody is stupid enough to get in the way of a "falling dumbbell" (does that even happen?) then they deserve a smashed foot.

Why ? A waste of space and energy! I also think that would be against the law in some countries. In any case, women can be just a sweaty, smelly and inconsiderate as men.

Some women may be more self conscious... A seperate, smaller optional area wouldn't hurt. A gym can be very intimidating if someone is insecure with their looks.

Law / Opening a gym in Gdańsk [30]

For me its all location and membership price.
Sounds simple, but I can deal with just about anything else.

100th post!

Genealogy / "-ski" last names more desirable in Poland? [28]

Millions of women with the last name ending in -ski seems to be a bit of exageration to me.

It was supposed to be hyperbole, not literal.
All I meant is that -ski's marry women and then the women are -ski's too.

(PS. polish population in US alone is 10,000,000ish so maybe millions of female ski's might not be incorrect???)

Genealogy / "-ski" last names more desirable in Poland? [28]

I thinks SeanBM meant historically. Not a standard followed today that says no woman can be a ski. There are millions of women with the last name "ski" currently.

Love / SHIFTLESS POLISH MALES FORCE WOMEN TO TAKE CHARGE???? [10]

But Polish females see things differently. They would love a husband who takes charge and shares the load.

I agree, but not only Polish females. A good majority of all females.

Two weeks ago i had a meal in the FART resteraunt in Poznan , good food , but the name of the place made me smile a bit....

Explain the FART restaurant to me.......Obviously a funny name in english, is it supposed to sound trendy or does it mean something when translated?

Genealogy / "-ski" last names more desirable in Poland? [28]

I read on here somewhere that -ski last names were originally used to designate royalty or elite families. Correct?

If so, are the non -ski's jealous of the -ski's?

USA, Canada / Polish attractions in Michigan----outside of Hamtramck [8]

I'm going to Michigan in 3 weeks and was wondering if there were any good polish related things/places I should know about. I read the various restaurant/market threads and Hamtramck threads, which were both really helpful. Anything else?

I'll be in the Royal Oak/Warren/Detroit/Sterling Heights/St. Claire Shores areas as I have family in each.

Love / My polish guy left me!!! Why do people post that here? [46]

Actually I did meet a great polish guy but there was no promise of marriage at all. We just had a great time together and when he left to go home that was the end. He didn't take my money and run or leave me stranded. I hope to meet another guy who I can make that happy and can make me happy! :)

Exactly!

Mods changed my thread topic twice now. I read this one and I thought "hey! I made a thread just like that!" haha.

Love / My polish guy left me!!! Why do people post that here? [46]

That's the problem with posting conversation, you may mean it as light hearted or in a joking manner but to the person reading it could be interpreted wrong. I wasn't trying to be harsh but if you have had your heart broken you do almost anything to get over it.

Let me guess, you joined this forum to post something about your missing pole too!!!!! jk.

If somebody is on the internet posting their life and intimate relationships they are opening themselves up for whatever other people want to say. Jokes, Sentiment, Hate, Ridicule, Compassion, whatever it may be.

I think a lot more men post messages like that on here.

I haven't come across a single one yet. I'm sure they have and will though.

Love / My polish guy left me!!! Why do people post that here? [46]

I wasn't trying to being mean. I just thought it was strange that there were quite a few of these in the short time I have been a member. I meant no malice.

I am friendly. I guess I just have kind of a dry sense of humor.....

What's with all the "my polish bf/soulmate/lover said he wanted to marry me and be with me forever JUST LEFT out of nowhere!?!?! I had no clue this was going to happen.........." women on here? Do they expect thier polish escapee to read their thread and come back? He's gone for a reason.

Language / When does polish "ch" sound like eng "ch" and when is it "h"? [59]

take in to consideration that a soft vowel sound before a sharp "h" sound can sometimes kind of sound like a soft "k." Native english speakers brains want to hear how it is said and not necessarily what is said....If that makes sense.

Language / When does polish "ch" sound like eng "ch" and when is it "h"? [59]

I have been seeing this a lot in a eng-pol phrasebook....
Some of the polish words that start with ch will start with kch sound for the english pronunciation of the word. It is starting to get kind of annoying.

USA, Canada / Americans give up smoking due to tobacco tax increase [7]

Ahhh....the lost art of proper grammer and punctuation.
I hope Obama makes cigarettes 15.00 a pack. I don't give a **** about the tobacco taxes. Nor do I give a **** about the taxes on the tobacco products that I personally smoke. It is a self-indulgence; not a necessity.

I can afford a lot more tobacco now at its current slightly-higher price than I could when gas (a necessity) was over 4.00 a gallon.

USA, Canada / Americans give up smoking due to tobacco tax increase [7]

I smoke a briar pipe and the tobacco went up maybe 2 USD. A bag will last me about a month so it doesn't really affect me.

Occasionally I smoke cigars, and that is a noticible increase. About 2-3 USD a cigar depending on the type. I did start smoking fewer cigars.

Language / When does polish "ch" sound like eng "ch" and when is it "h"? [59]

...so I went back and listened very carefully to where i heard the Polish "ch" that sounded like english "ch." I realize that it was a soft, unstressed sound followed by the beginning of a hard "h" stressed sound. My native english brain was trying to hear what it thought it should intead of what it actually was. Thanks,

USA, Canada / Hamtramck, Michigan, USA [41]

Yep , Restauracja Pod Orlem's still there . I moved out to the suburbs but my family still lives in Hamtown . ( go to Polonia restaurant tho on Yemans street - it's MUCH better I.M.op.)

We really liked the staff at Pod Orłem last time. Thanks for the suggestion and we will definitely check that place out too when we visit.

p.s. - Hamtowns ALWAYS been full of ******* people , it's part of the charm ! hahah

Well that makes me feel a little better to know it's not rapidly getting worse.....
