History / Did Ukraine really "steal" Polish land? [302]

We could stabilize the region and make Slo and Nathan work as serfs on my farm, i'd ride around on a huge white horse shouting "faster you peasants".

oh, so now you going to solve the Ukraine economic problems, although many other Poles have failed in the past - they just wanted to exploit it.

Silly goose. It is nice to live in a dream world of yours, isn't it.

History / Slavs vs Germanics: Battle of the centuries [44]

What does this say?

it goes for other nationalities as well. For some reason one needs to state their ethnic background because it is easier for other posters to put people in boxes.

I don't see any other reason besides the fact that most people like the stereotypes.
Black & white thinking comes to mind, but things come up in heated discussions and people are forced to take sides, which is not a bad thing at all. I was just making an observation:)

Life / Wonderful Poland.......but the attitude of Polish people [150]

There are many great people here who, when you get to know them, would really help you out.

true, but he happened to walk into a fair number who are not, which is a shame.

Good luck Yoshi:)

News / Polish converts: When did you have your revelation? [29]

I'm 16 and definitely a hell of a lot more intellegent than you are, so I wouldn't make general statements like that.

then please explain the "box is sitting on you" statement please.

News / IS NOBLE WINNER SZOSTAK POLISH? [68]

Stern did it-and hes a doc in Israel so my guess is he aint a Mormon.

I know that but I cannot see the relevance unless I misread his post. I have nothing against Jews, just the opposite.

As for Szostak, maybe he just does not want to be associated with any ethnicity at this point, he is an American citizen and he got the prize because he is a scientist.

UK, Ireland / What is good about being in the UK? [140]

But I'm Dutch, we're independent and cling to our freedom by nature :)

Never heard of that. So much to learn, so much to learn;).

Oh gee, will I know what that different approach would be?

I will be nice and just.

If you beat them long enough, it will work eventually.

not true, I tried that on you and you have developed even more need for freedom.

aphro is preparing a different approach in secret;)

Travel / Going to Szczecin - other airports in Poland [18]

with all my luggage

if you have a lot, then flying to Warsaw and then catching a connecting flight to Goleniow/Szczecin would be your best option, because you are flying from NZ, which would probably take you hours resulting in being tired and less alert.

If you have only few suitcases, then flying to Berlin is a good option, from where you can catch a 2 hour train ride to Szczecin, or better yet, get a ride in a private minibus run by Poles doing the Berlin -Szczecin route (1,5 hour ride) on a daily basis.

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in UK. Ch. 1 - Staring [43]

I don't think its so much about staring. I never felt 'stared at' in Poland.

Its more about 'situational awareness', being conscious of ones surroundings. I tend to get the feeling with Brits and Kiwis that they are just totally oblivious to whats around them.

What impressed me most about Poles is that they seem.. expansive... like their 'bubble of awareness' is quite large by comparison.

very precise observations. I just like to add that is is about eye contact and some cultures are more comfortable more then others.

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish immigrant in the UK. Ch. 2 - Stress [63]

Why 'attitude'???

because there is a pattern in your thinking, therefore I used a word attitude.

Can you not take a compliment???

I am not in the UK. Changing countries has similar challenges all over the world. That was my point. It could be stressful and I think that venting is one way of dealing with it.

I like some entries in your blog because you are indeed asking questions, which is a good thing.

Ksysia The Prophet.

this attitude could be dangerous though, ha, ha......

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish immigrant in the UK. Ch. 2 - Stress [63]

Everyone takes it easy in Britain, you have local newspapers, local radio, football teams and pubs, and that's about it. You don't fret over the politics as much as we do, you're not bombarded with Gazeta Wyborcza and TVN living in a state of permanent catastrophe.

This is what draws people over here, that lack of stress.
This is what makes people not care what job they are in - even if it's 200 pounds per week, at least the petrol is dirt cheap.

It's not stress free for all of us. Especially with the nasty comments: not in the papers, not in the internet, but at work. But definitely your life is easier (and the roads go without saying)

I understand that as a new arrival you have things to say, but I think that you need explain to people that these are YOUR experiences and YOUR way of looking at life in general. I actually troubled myself to read some of your blog entries and I came upon a post on Polish library system. It is not different then this post, so I came to conclusion that it is YOUR attitude more so then the "reality" you are trying to describe.

That reminds me of a person I had met lately and who arrived into the new country 4 months ago and she had a similar attitude. Most of the things she happens to dislike and is very critical of every little encounter. No joy in discovering a new place, but a lot of hight expectations. Sad, but true.

I see is as a misdirected anger to be honest;)

Love / Received an email from a young Polish woman - Is she too good to be true? [70]

Yes I was too and asked her in my first email where she got my address but she said she could not remember!

that is a read flag already, I would block her pronto. If you never given her your e-mail address (unless it was part of your info on the website), then you have a scammer.

Food / Is it just me, or is the Polish diet rather unhealthy? [119]

beetroot is very good for you, so is cabbage.

true and pickled food which Poland has plenty of has some good natural bacteria which speeds up the digestion process, so there you go.

Vile kiszona kapusta and ogorki are actually good for you:)

Food / Is it just me, or is the Polish diet rather unhealthy? [119]

hmmm, since Polish food is fattening how would anyone explain the fact that Polish people are not overweight the way some people in the Western countries are;)???

For example, pierogi meals swimming in butter.

I use sour cream only:)

Language / Kids languages for mixed couples ? [26]

Ideally, we'd all know at the minimum something about our neighbors' language, rather than arrogantly insisting on the superiority of our own?-:)

good point

Food / Is it just me, or is the Polish diet rather unhealthy? [119]

Also rather limited to pork and chicken - predominantly meat or protein based, but with little vegetables. Is this the norm? I often have to feign that I am not hungry, simply through fear of becoming the size of a house!! :-)

sounds about right but I would think that he cooks for you out of love, so the best solution is to take turns in cooking if you don't want to gain too much;).
