It usually depends where.. different municipal areas have different bus networks and prices may vary. Free until school age - as long as your child is learning in a school and HAS GOT A VALID SCHOOL ID with him he is entitled to get the concessionary ticket's price ( public transport). Same thing with university students.

1 line ticket means if you leave the bus after validating your ticket, you are no longer allowed to use it again. There are in some places special tickets with a transfer possibility.


You can buy a one line ticket in every kiosk or newsagents. If you want a monthly pass you you'd probably have to go to your local post office or the main bus station..

Well in whatever country you gonna eat you might get bad food experience. The worst food I had in Poland was a pizza after which I had a food poisoning which put me off eating for whole Christmas pretty nasty.. beside that I haven't had any problem really..

if you have a week stomach you should be careful while drinking highlander's "Żentyca", it's a whay made of sheep's milk, can be pretty deadly for an unprepared stomach ;)

I also heard few stories about kebab huts in Krakow and guys jerking off to the sauce, pretty gross..


bar mleczy/ jadłodalnia.. I know what you mean, but I have to say that some are not so bad, the food is cheap and usually pretty good, when I was studying it was a real value for money although on the other hand homeless people where dining there too ;D

There are many company's like that usually they say they are creating some kind of an important well-known record book of companies and your company might be in it as well but you have to pay some weird price for it. They are just crooks ignore it..

Hehe, there are probably different standards of these diners, but when I was a student I wasn't very choosy. Eating in such a diner near my uni was a good idea especially when I had a 1,5h gap between activities, and the food is probably healthier than in fast foods..

I have never had any problems with food in there, although yes there were tramps eating around too. I haven't had any problems with Sphinx either.. maybe you've got a noble taste :p

From what I know electronics are generally more expensive than abroad... and every price drop comes here with a slight delay, maybe because newer technologies are being introduced faster in western european countries and us..

I'll just tell you Shad that all these points of view are pretty biased, and single unlucky cases. There are pros and cons of Polish schools ( like schools anywhere else ) but they depend strictly on these schools themselves, there are good schools and bad schools, probably most are ok... you should fathom it out earlier, before going to such shool - what are the standards of teaching there, is the youth alright..

I have really fond memories of all schools I attended too, including 8 years in school placed in a pretty rough panel housing project similar to american Pruitt Igoe.

When I was a kid it was more of my parents choice rather than me being interested in playing an instrument. It's probably similar in other families, if there's a family tradition of playing the instruments than next generations will have that kind of things imposed. I'm talking about instruments such as piano or violin because at certain age kids start being interested in instruments like guitars (certainly more rebellious than a piano). There weren't many kids who played the piano beside me in my ground school, later in secondary there were lots of guitar players...

Haven't heard of any bias towards rural or any other dialects. The only way of speaking disliked by many is slang or dialect, more of a accent probably, used by uneducated kids from panel blocks of flats building projects called "blokersi" although used by many other generally uneducated people such as polish chavs...

Contrary to hating another dialect or accent I remember few girls in Warsaw got interested in me and my mates because of our Silesian accent ( although I think I don't have any ), we weren't using any Silesian words that time though.


I'm from Silesia, and I never had any problems with understanding what other people say and I think I've been to all regions that have any kind of a dialect in Poland..

If it's about computer games I know that Quake3, Counter-Strike and Starcraft/Warcraft had a fairly big base of serious users. All three are hand-eye coordination type of agility games (plus the last one is a strategic thinking based).

Best Polish counter-strike team has been good enough to win this years WCG (World Cyber Games) in China which is a pretty big achievement. So called proffesional gaming in Poland is still a toddler, I don't know of many polish players beside mentioned counter-strike team who earns for a living by playing games - hence there ain't many polish skill-gaming platforms.

The only one I know is:

And of course particular games have their own main sites with leagues and such..

I always thought the contrary, people feel safe when they are in familiar surroundings.. they know every recess, every back alley, and after a binge they'll, consciously or not, get home. I'd be pretty viligilant while drinking on foreign soil..

Because you met such people and were told who they are. It's the same with other people, if they won't have that experience and somebody to tell them what exactly they are hearing they will not recognise it... beside it's probably pretty hard to experience other accents when the only thing you can listen to is english guys binge drinking in Krakow.

If you were asking about unis from my experience with Silesian University of Technology, they are pretty underequipped, most of the laboratory gear is old, there are subjects that circle around technologies that are long forgotten in the modern world, and are there only to keep some professor's or doctor's cosy job until he can retire ( and these professors tend to dwell on how grand these ancient technologies are ). There's is less pressure put on specialization than abroad, so after finishing such uni you can go anyway, and have pretty broad knowledge in whole IT, but on the other hand unless you really tried to learn more about one subjects, you'll be mediocre in all of them... many more things ;)

I think it does, uneducated people are lazy so they cut words short and they speak carelessly. I know people from different backgrounds from the same city speaking with the same dialect yet utterly different accent, a commoner from the city centre is one thing and a ned from a panel building project is another thing and you'll always hear the difference.

Yup.. it's all buses and taxis now, the expensiveness probably depends on the thickness of your wallet though lots of people use the public transport..

Kłodnica river hmm more like a sewer, all the white foam on the surface, all Silesian rivers are more of a gutter than anything else. I live in Zabrze and we've got a similar polluted river ;) You'll probably like the old market squre, neatly renovated one of the brightest city spots..

Well people in here mistake accent, dialect and slang all the time. Partially it is slang, partially it is accent because chavs in here use a certain accent when saying simple words. I dunno what is says about them, certainly one in 20 is actually witty ;)
