Life / Renewing my English passport in Poland [23]

That would be great if it is the same day. I need to book my ticket back to Uk for a month and the lack of a valid passport is holding me back.

Thanks!

Life / Renewing my English passport in Poland [23]

So I know I have to check the embassy but I was just wondering if anyone here had to do this before. I heard from them that it takes 4 weeks to renew but isnt there anyway I can get it done quicker than that? I would have thought the embassy could do them the same day, however I have to go to the passport office near Palace of culture and not to the embassy.

Maybe because youre not interested in becoming an English teacher. Sorry you have only meant low standard teachers but there are many good ones around. With regards to grammar its one of the most important things for a teacher to show his or her class.

The rest is just pronounciation, which anyone can do if they have a good accent.

I disagree. Most Polish English language teachers know far more grammar than most Native speakers because for us it is harder to explain. Also I have met many Polish people with heavy English and American accents who could do the job just as well as a native speaker. It makes me feel sorry for them because they might spend 5 or 6 years of their life studying to be a teacher and have a very very good accent, but get turned away because of their nationality. (the point that many English people are complaing about back home)

shops are now stocking polish food, giving us English limited choice in our shops.

Wait a minute... Shops are stocking a new type of food and you have LESS choice??? Something doesnt add up here.

Do you feel bad about us English people going to different countries and taking local peoples jobs at language schools, or buying vast amounts of property and pushing up prices for the locals. Do you feel bad that the south of Spain has been turned into a mini Uk with people singing get your Ti** out evrywhere and throwing up in people restaraunts.??? Im guessing the answer to that is no. Its not a problem for us to do this to many other countries but when someone dares to come from another country and try to get a job its a problem. Polish food in shops??? No no no??? What ever next??

You lost your job because the EMPLOYER wants Polish staff, you have 'less' selection of food(by the way im sure the Polish food takes up about 6 shelves in a shop) because the SHOP wants to make money.

Go find a new job and do something to help yourself.

Life / The standard of living in Poland? [10]

Looks like you could do with the help of an English teacher or maybe those words should be replaced with doctor.

UK, Ireland / Great Britain vs England, Ireland, Scottland, Wales [37]

Yeah i read about their plans to blow up Jamie Oliver's restaraunts. There are some fruitcakes in the world. I heard that they have financial backing from America. Who the hell would want to fund a small Nationalist party who are intent on destroying restaruants. Gordon Ramsay???

I dont think you can accuse the Poles of being cowards. They have always stood up for what they believed in.

Just ask Tinky-Winky.

UK, Ireland / Great Britain vs England, Ireland, Scottland, Wales [37]

So I am interested to hear your points of view on this.

A very annoying student of mine is of the opinion that I cant be English but I must be British. I tried to explain that I was born in England and although the 4 nations are reffered to as United Kingdom, people in these countries take pride in calling themselves English,Scottish etc. Howevere she says she has spoke to many people on the internet and they always refer to themselves as British.

I believe that every nation does many things to ensure that they remain their own country. Wales for example is trying to encourage more people to learn the Welsh languae so that it doesnt die out and so that they can feel like more than just a piece of land next to England. Scotland has its own currency(although very similar to the pound i know) and it wasnt very long ago they were planning to break away from the UK, also recently they have been given an important drug to prevent blindness for free but English people will have to pay for it. Also Ireland has had a well disputed battle in itsa country to remain its own nation.

Im not anti British but I do believe we have the right to be from our own country not a group, also I fail to see what the United Kingdom does to show that we are United. I mean look at our sports teams, we only have atheletes for a joint team and i think that might be because we dont have many good ones. So im just interested to know anyone elses views on this.

Ps I know it doesnt have much to do with Poland...

O sh** Ste I had no idea that it was you that posted those lats 3 pics. I thought it was the same guy who posted the first one. Mate I dont know what to say to you, I cant imagine how I would feel to hear that someone I had met and been emotianally touched buy had had such a horrific thing happen to her. Amathyst I know you meen good here but this guy is in pain as well, and doesnt mean any disrespect.

Maybe in a way he is trying to celebrate her and show us all what a beutifull women she was and that her death is a tragic waste of something special.

On everything else I agree with you, but not this comment. How was she supposed to know he would turn out to be a psychopath?

Daisy Peterweg was saying that this comment is complete rubbish.
