Work / Non-Polish Speaker in Poland. Teaching sports? [13]

Teaching English is pretty much the best way to get a job quickly. There are various courses required for most schools though. CELTA and TEFL seem to be the biggest however there is a course called The Callan method which I am teaching i didnt need a course for it and as long as you speak fluent English and have an easy to understand accent it shouldnt be a problem getting the job as long as you can find a scholl that needs a native speaker (most do) Good luck feel free to email me if you need any help I live in Brodnica with my girlfriend Its a great country to live in!!

Work / Pay, salary in Poland. [54]

well im living in a town called Torun . Its not a very big city and I rent a flat very close to the centre, its about a five minute walk. I pay 500zl a month then there is something called cnarz ( i think i splet wrong) i think its simalar to council tax but everyone must pay. So thats 800zl so far. Bills maybe 100 zl a month. Food depending on your tastes:) about 150 a week . so that 1100 . I think add another 300 zl on to that just in my calculations are wrong. Thats a total of 1400 zl a month. So for 2,500 zl a month you should be more that ok :)

You need to also think about how you will travel around whilst living in Poland. Do you intend to buy a car? Im from England and I was planning to go and collect my car and drive it back here but something tells me that your American so that option might not be open to you. Something I was taught in school about cars and deep water not really going together very well, if only I could remember what it was.......

The average working day is 8 hours so about 200 zl a week for most people. Im fortunate enough just to have a job because im English and my pay will be high for the average Polish wage

Work / How much to charge for private conversational classes? [8]

Well I am looking for work sooner rather than later. On one of my other post's I got a reply explaining about the callan method. The person mentiones that the school will teach me the callan method. Also the celta course is 500 pound and will not start untill uly. With another completed course behind me I thought it would be an extra incentive for students to want private lessons with me. Do you have another idea? I really would welcome any extra input

Work / How much to charge for private conversational classes? [8]

The 150 was a joke. I was thinking to charge 35 and maybe give the first lesson free to let the person see if they feel that it is something worth paying for:) As my teaching language experience is minimal I wouldnt like to teach too high. My girlfriend is Polish and while we were living in England I was always testing her and correcting her so I feel I have something to offer any potential students.

I was thinking 30 zl per hour.Is this reasonable?

Work / Salary indication job in Poland [44]

ill try to help as well but I have only ust recently moved to Poland. I cant tell you much about what salary you should ask for but in regards to enough money to live a comfortable live maybe I can help. Im paying 800 zl a month for a flat In torun Its near the centre but being in Krakow I think prices might be about 1000zl. Food usually costs about 120zl a week and then you need to think about transport , will you buy a car or use public transport. Prices are not very expensive here for things like busses, trains etc but it depends on how far you want to travel ( I live 3 hours from Warsaw and it costs me 78zl to get there and back) I honestly believe that the figure you mention 4800zl would easily be enough to have a comfortable life in krakow, however later if you would like to buy a house you might find it more difficult , Im not sure what the rules are on loans and mortgages for foreigners. As bubba mentioned It sounds like you are doing highly skilled work and the fact that you meet all of their requirements is a big bonus for you. With this in mind its very important you dont go too low with your salary demands. I know I haven't really answered what you wanted to know but I had to try. Good luck

Language / "like" problem [29]

Im a guy and ill be honest. If a guy likes you (like would like to be with you) and he hears you say you like him, it doesnt matter how you mean it He will probably start thinking it means you want him. Its a man thing. Maybe Im mistaken....

Work / Living In Torun, have no TEFL or CELTA; help me Im getting desperate [26]

Hi My name is Oliver I have been living in Poland now for 2 months with my girlfriend Kasia Who I love very very much. I am desperate to find a job here and I can see the most obvious route to take is teaching. I dont have any TEFL or CELTA courses but it looks like this might be my only option. Is there anyone that can help me or give me some advice? My Polish is basic but I am studying every day for 2-3 hours so it is improving greatly. I think the best option is to attempt to organise some one-on-one tutoring e.g Conversation classes. Please someone help me I couldn't bear to have go back to England and leave my girlfriend but I know i cant stay here forever without a job Please Please help me....
