Genealogy / Mikolaj Rak from Carpatho-Rusyn, Lemko Villages in Jaslo County [11]

Mine were from Rzeszow County, I believe. The village was Lubno, Dynow commune. A distant relative in Poland gave me info about her family, but I haven't been able to connect hers to mine. My second cousin explained my family's connection to Russia. I haven't, though, been able to connect my great-grandfather Wasyl "Basil"Kocielko to the other Kocielkos/Kociolkos who immigrated from Lubno. I know of possibly two sisters - Malanka and Tekla, as well as a nephew - Nestor.

Genealogy / Middle Names in Poland name records (Helen Pilip Kocielko) [5]

Hi,

I have a question about middle names: Do public records in Poland reveal middle names? I can't find middle names for my great-grandparents and their relatives in Poland. My great-grandmother Helen Pilip Kocielko had the middle initial of B., according to a record on Ancestry's website. Her brother Frank Pilip had the middle initial of A. Other than these I know nothing about the middle names of my family born in Poland.

Does your father-in-law have relatives in America? Gathering names and contacting them could get you leads in Poland.

Have you looked on the SSDI (Social Security Death Index)? It might show the whole birth and death dates for you great-uncles.

Genealogy / is KUBIAK a common name in Poland [13]

There used to be a restaurant nearby called Kubiak's. It was a family restaurant. Some other people bought it out, though.

Genealogy / Address of Church in Łęki, Borzęcin Poland [8]

Thanks. According to the Mapa Szukacz site, £ęki only has a population of around 690, so the people might go to another town for church.

Hi,

I looked on the Mormons' website. I found a microfilm listing for the Roman Catholic church in Leki. It goes from the 1700's to the 1930's. How would I go about ordering the microfilm? I have a FHC not too far from me. Any help would be appreciated.

Genealogy / Maludzinska [29]

I'm going to have to go. I would like to be able to help you. I believe that there was an online phone directory for Poland. You need the name of the town. You might uncover cousins. Sadly, I don't know the link. One of the members here might know what I mean. Well, good luck with all your research.

Do you have obituaries for any relatives who died? You might be able to find names of long-lost relatives who might be helpful.

Do you have old photo albums or boxes? They might have helpful info. I found quite a bit through that.

Genealogy / Maludzinska [29]

I see. I don't see a connection with any of my surnames. Can you write to your cousins? Perhaps they could provide insight or visit the church. There are people on these boards who can do translations.

Genealogy / Maludzinska [29]

I knew that. I meant to say records for priests might be more extensive than for the villagers. Perhaps some kind of biographical info could be obtained on him. I hear different opinions about obtaining records. Some say to write with a donation; others say to call the church.

The church might have records for their priests. You might be able to learn about your grandfather from there. Do you know the name and/or address of it?
