Real Estate / Current state of the property market in Krakow [135]

krakow:
asking someone to put a value on something that they are going to sell AND also get a comission on is plainly LUDICROUS !!.

The estate agents in Ireland are partly / significantly to blame for the ridiculous house prices here over the last few years. The reason I use Ireland as an analogy is because of the similarity between both economic models. Although of course it was the cosy relationship between the estate agents, banks, developers, media organisations and revenue from property advertising also. Estate agents in Ireland have little or no regulatory control over them and often 'gazumped' house prices etc

Life / PAYING TO TAKE A PISS IN POLAND, it's BIZARRE [77]

You have to pay to take a pee in most cities and towns in Ireland also. It makes sense when you think about it, public urinals encourage anti social behaviour, grafitti etc . . . at least if you have to pay to pee in a star trek style pee pod, well you can pee hygienically in peace

"and the funny thing is, that the public toilets in europe are not even close to to being as clean as australia's public toilets."

Not sure about Poland as I never needed one, but I havent seen a public toilet in ireland for over 10 yrs, they are almost all gone. Although I do remember my gf paying to have a pee in Mc Donalds / Krakow recently, she didnt seem to mind and the alternative might have been tragic :|

3) True, property markets do move in roughly 10 year cycles, as we're seeing now in Ireland and the UK. Irish prices in particular went up a staggering 5 times in the 12 years up to 2007. But - 2008 is nowhere near the 10th year of the Polish growth cycle. In fact prices fell in 2004, and 2005 was the first post accession growth year. So the 10 year cycle principle doesn't really apply here.

Interesting point. My girfriends father recently built a house outside Krakow and tells me house prices have levelled out completely in the area which is somewhat heartening. It seems to suggest the housing sector in Poland may not reach such absurd highs as it did here in Ireland. Where do you reckon Poland are in their '10 yr cycle', year 5/6 maybe ?

History / Where did the stereotype of Polish people being stupid come from? [131]

I suspect very dark days are ahead of us also. In recent times the 80s were tough, but at least we never knew what it was like to have anything and we had no debt. This time around we know what it is like to have nice things and what some consider a 'lifestyle' but now we are under this massive blanket of debt !! Who knows, perhaps the tide will turn and we will all be emmigrating to Poland ?

I guess Francoise made a mistake by looking for an agony aunt on PF. LOL.

I like Francoise, we all do but I said 'arse' so Francoise said I was a very rude man and he doesnt like me anymore :|

Judging by how rude Francis though I was saying the dreaded 'arse' word, Im guessing he wears ear muffs, sandals and a little yellow flower in his hair. He seems like the type that watches re runs of Bambi with his mom. Of course that Polish girl was friendly with you, she looked upon you as her sister you muppet !

History / Where did the stereotype of Polish people being stupid come from? [131]

The world is rapidly moving in this direction enigma. Who has what and who should have what are 2 very different things. Taxes are high and I like to think that the majority of taxpayers wouldn't condone such actions as u alluded to above. It's not the Poles that are stupid for claiming this, it's the lawmakers for neglecting to follow common sense and allowing this situation to come about

Absolutely, if they are getting it for nothing why not ! We have little or no power over these hand outs to families living abroad, regardless how furious people are about it . . . . its EU policy and its going to get worse.

yes, there was a reason for that back then to keep the new immigrants in check, but that was a looooong time ago:)

Not so long ago, its takes centuries to change oppinions engraved in the consciousness through generation after generation

Indeed, and enough there to fill a whole new post. They certainly are a costly business, and you know my tax is inadvertingly paying for Polish babies :| By law, anyone from the EU working in Ireland can claim child benefit for their children that reside in their home country. While I have no objection to anyone receiving child benifit whilst residing here, thats not on. I wouldnt mind if it was at least relative to salaries and inflation in their home countries but its paid in tangent to Irish income levels !

Love / Polish Girl ruining my sleep [30]

Hm that wasnt being rude :| Im sorry if you took offence. Obviously you want more than friendship as you seem to like her more than what might be considered normal between friends. If you are hurt by the fact everybody here agrees with me, well thats tough get over it. Im certainly not a fool, but by your apparent lack of humour and personality I am not surprised she doesnt want anything more to do with you and is happily married. If you think a harmelss light hearted Irish expression like "my arse" is rude, Im afraid you are far too precious for this world, and not man enough for Polish women...perhaps you would be better off going bird watching or maybe picking daffodils and writing poetry beneath a chestnut tree. Nobody is arguing with you, we were giving you advise and trying to do it in a light hearted way without embarrassing you. You are the one that turned all psycho

Yes and No. I know plenty of couples who got back with their x's. Also, about the ending, I am not expecting her to be with me.....I just want to revive the ongoing friendship

But she wasnt your ex ! Fiendship my arse :D Anyway her husband will kick ten colours of **** out of you, and I doubt she wants to be your friend either . . . she had your phone number but didnt want to contact you . . . . she didnt want to email you . . . . or even write to you. Man dont embarrass yourself, get on with your life or move to Poland and get yourself another beautiful girl

History / Where did the stereotype of Polish people being stupid come from? [131]

lol Next thing you know they are eating cats and making dog soup like the Chinese. Enforced birth control hasnt worked out there, female kids are almost chucked away these days. Birth control in Poland, well with all the mass immigration the UK is experiencing due to their relaxed entry visa laws, im surprised Mr Brown hasnt suggested it there :D

Love / Fidelity of Polish women [63]

There might be some truth to that, but to be honest most of the Polish I see in Ireland are very reserved. I guess what you describe could be said about people everywhere, leaving home and breaking away from any social or family constraints they felt they had before. I know the Irish abroad can behave like lunatics, but then again they behave like lunatics at home also :|

Provocation works, Im a dab hand at it myself. The next decade is going to be very interesting in Poland, it intrigues me to be honest. Its almost a carbon copy of Ireland in every way, but without the mass influx of returning emmigrants possibly saturating every secotor. Time shall tell !

That situation can only finish bad . . . She was just playing a game, boosting her own wgo while stroking yours. You have absolutely no chance of anything with her, she doesnt want you, get on with your life . . . Sorry if that seems cruel but its logical. I tend to agree with my friend gdt here . . . it can not and wont end well

History / Where did the stereotype of Polish people being stupid come from? [131]

I suspect if work in what they were qualified at in Poland paid anything close to what they could get waiting tables abroad . . . Im sure they would choose to remain at home. Thats a good point you make about the unemployment rate. With the rising economy now in Poland, I wonder if it can sustain all those returning home ?

History / Where did the stereotype of Polish people being stupid come from? [131]

I have never heard of such a stereotype, is this only in America? or is it in England too?
There used to be the same stereotype for Irish people in England but apart from me, that has changed.

Nor have I SeanBM, never ! I once heard there was a stereotype about Irish people haveing big ears. Now while my own ears arent exactly tiny, they are hardly NTL sattelite dish :|

Yeah, they have Masters and degrees but weren't smart enough to find gainful employment. They seem to rest on their laurels and not convert it into a meaningful career.

Also, we were discussing stereotypes. U seemed to be discussing general impressions gleaned from people rather than fixed stereotypes.

All of the above stereotypes have more than a grain of truth to them but only by going and finding out for yourself will you ever come close to the full truth.

Hm thats a ridiculous and ignorant assertion. The reason they cant perhaps find gainful employment is because of the language barrier. By the same token are you suggesting the thousands of British and Irish graduates teaching english in Poland and elsewhere throughout the world arent smart also ? Another reason of course is the fact that during the more difficult economic climate in Poland, a pole with a masters was more than happy working in an Irish hotel earning more money than the career he/she was qualified at back home. Resting on their laurels ? thats absurd...so I guess thats why millions left home and worked their butts off to make money in sometimes three jobs at the same time until the economic reality had improved back home. Of course now many are returning to Poland having earned enough money to build houses, start businesses etc . . . thats resting on their laurels in your world is it ?

No, I think its pretty clear Im discussing stereotypes.

I agree all do have a grain of truth in them, and its only from spending a lot of time in Poland that I can decypher the myths from the reality.

Look at me.... I AM POLISH ... and am I stupid? .... NO.

I doubt it has anything to do with your nationality, but if you feel the need to question your stupidity, ok.

History / Where did the stereotype of Polish people being stupid come from? [131]

Highly educated Polish? I think that is sth fronted by the Poles themselves. I'm not aware of many other countries people who would state that as a stereotype.

Well its how they are perceived in any country I have lived in. I have never heard it from Poles themselves. It might have something to do with the fact that 80% of those Poles you see working in the catering and services industry abroad all have masters and degrees. Other stereotypes I have heard about the Poles are vodka drinkers, catholic, very beautiful women, very ugly men, poverty...funnily enough never stupid and as I have said I have lived abroad in other countries.

The fact is that most countries people don't know much, nor even care, about Polish stereotypes

I doubt anyone anywhere live their lives caring or contemplating stereotypes, be it about Polish, Irish, American people etc, why would they. Usually its just the people who are feel agrieved about the stereotype of themselves that know and think about it.

Love / Fidelity of Polish women [63]

Ive never heard of that myth. Nobody is so naive as to think that all polish women are more loving, loyal, faithful etc than women anywhere else. There are however many societal and moral structures in place from various influences that are still present in Poland and not elsewhere. Thus as a basic statistical probability, Polish women in general who are brought up to be more family orientated, repect the values of the church, from what they observe in their own society will have differnet attitudes. Its no surpise that infedility, divorce etc is five times more now in Ireland as it was ten yrs ago before the economic boom. Divorce is still relatively low in Poland, and isnt as acceptable as in many other countries, this is also as a result of society imposed morals and how Polish attitudes are collectively etc. People are people at the end of the day, and although you cant place any section of women in a certain box, you can certainly see a collective picture as to their attitudes from the society they live in. That said Poland is changing all the time, more people travel and return, people are falling away from the church, growing economy, materialisim etc etc All these also influence peoples behaviour and how we love or measure love even. Who knows maybe it will be a nation of 'slutty ones' in yrs to come, i certainly hope not :)

Love / Fidelity of Polish women [63]

True of course, but it has a lot to do with society and religious values also. By in large Poland is still a relatively religious country, and morals to match....that naturally influences the attitudes and acceptable moral codes of behaviour

Ive never heard of that 'Stupid Polish' stereotype. If anything the stereotype of the present generation is 'Highly Educated Polish'. Then again Im Irish, and we still get the 'drunk stupid Irish' stereotype' also, regardless of us being one of the most educated people in Europe :)

News / POLAND'S CREDIT CRAZE [34]

The UK and US's current misery is due to their borrowing and spending, and lack of savings.

True as a stand alone statement, but it is consumer spending / confidence and credit the push an economy forward and upward also. Put simply easy credit is both good and bad for the economy. What we are experiencing now is the negative effects of easy credit and deregulation of the banking system etc. Both must not happen again, but of course will eventually

Love / Fidelity of Polish women [63]

Well I am going out with a wonderful Polish girl. She has never once flirted with other men or made me feel insecure with other men. I think Polish women in general are very family orientated and have strong morals, so that is why perhaps they tend to be faithful and loyal in their relationships. I suspect if you love her, and she loves you that you wont have any problems with infidelity anyway....Maybe I just got very lucky :)

Work / Is there jobs for a beauty therapist in Poland? [28]

a beauty therapist is different than a holistic therapist here in Ireland, and Poland also.....I dont know a thing about beauty :) but I know Polish women like women everywhere want to look beautiful, and they are willing to spend money at the beauty salon to do so
