Well I don't speak for everyone of course but if someone posts something that is stupid and derogatory then I would vote it down. If they posted something interesting, correct, on topic and thought provoking then I would vote it up.

It's open to abuse, I admit.

No in all seriousness I just wondered if anyone had any ideas around where they see the forum going, everyone is quick to moan that it isn't what it used to be yet nobody wants to talk about how to attract more original content.

I hope you know what I'm getting at... the digg thing was just to get people talking!

I watched a trial of this on another forum a couple of months ago and it didn't last a week. What happened in that case was people just negatively voted for people they didn't like so their posts were voted against regardless of whether they were relevant or not. So in that sense, self-moderation didn't work. Another way it didn't work was that users just couldn't be bothered with it.

Interesting :) I've seen it work several times though, you aren't suggesting people would do such a thing as vote posts up and down based on their personal opinions of the poster and not the content of the post on pf are you ;)

I see your point, pf is strange in this sense (to me any ways)

There is another way you can "self-moderate" when it comes to posters like noimmigration, just don't react to them. :)

I agree to some extent but if you have strong feelings on some topics such as child abuse and rape etc it is difficult to hold your tongue. (or should that be fingers)

Hello,

(Firstly just to state I don't want to step on any ones toes here, I'm not saying the site is bad in any way and needs to change, I just wanted to raise the topic)

I just wondered where forum members stand on where they would like to see the website go in the future in terms of web interface and design?

I would personally like to see a voting system similar to some websites such as digg.com whereby if somebody posts something negative and off topic it can be 'buried' based on what other forum users think, in the same way it can be voted up to indicate it is a good post in the opinions of the forum users. If this happened the forum would become somewhat self moderating with cyberpunks like noimmi's vulgar comments being buried and only accessible to those who want to read them.

I'm not saying it has to happen, I just wanted to throw the idea out there for dicussion...

What about everybody else? Do you have ideas and opinions on how the site can move forwards?

(Apologies to Admin if he thinks I should stay out of what is essentially his/site owners business)

which is a bit of a schlep for me. Standsted is more convenient for me, as I live in East London.

Don't worry! I live in Cumbria! with no more flights from Liverpool, London is quite a hike!

Wow! So it's pretty confusing then!

I just noticed this because I once heard someone (who missed out on a shot of wódka) saying: "i Ja!?!" but then today I notice on somebody's gadu gadu status the use of "a Ja!" so I am trying to see some kind of difference. I guess this is one of those things that Krzysztof once told me: "You will only understand when you learn to think like a Pole"

I imagine Dlaczego to be the typical Polish version of English: Why?

I'm thinking that Czemu is kind of like the English version of Eh? but without the exclamation, you know in a kind of friendly colloquial way.

Language / Dlaczego/Czemu - What is what? [22]

Ok so cjjc is back with one of his silly questions that is probably beyond his grasp of grammar!

My questions are:

There are 2 words for why is Polish correct?

'Dlaczego' and 'Czemu'

I would like to know the difference.

Should you use 'czemu' in the negative sense almost like 'tego' versus 'to'?

Excuse my ignorance but lately I have been studying English grammar in order for me to be able to learn Polish better so I may be a little ;) out of touch.

If he wants to apply for the SAS he will need to be in the army for 3 years and 3 months then he can apply, I would think that in this world climate he would definitely be deployed before then. I doubt he would pass selection into the SAS it is one arguably of the most difficult training regime in the world and fewer that 25% make it past the first week.

I'm sure he knows all this.

I would suggest if he is serious you re-evaluate your relationship because if he goes in the army and gets deployed you won't be seeing much of him at all.

If he did get in the SAS (i.e. passed selection and made it to Hereford) he would be a different person and you would see even less of him than if he was operational in the 'standard' British forces.

Language / What do you find difficult about learning Polish? [98]

POLISH IS HARD!

It's in the top 10 if not top 5 most difficult languages in the world.

English starts easy and gets harder and from what I've heard Polish starts hard and gets easier.

Anyone on this site who has read half of my stuff knows I really struggle with Polish but I'm sticking to it is because I know no pain no gain!

I'm retaking my English GCSE for the sake of learning! How is that for dedication!
