Yep, similar thing happened to me. It was then I noticed that the red label Smirnoff is only 37.5% Alc vol.

UK, Ireland / Great Britain vs England, Ireland, Scottland, Wales [37]

The recent waffle about Scotland breaking away was raised by the SNP during the recent Scottish Parliament elections, who now have power in the Scottish Parliament.

Thats why they got power.

the SNP lost the plot when asked how they would defend the country.

By retaining and enhancing the armed forces by not squandering resources fighting and dying in illegal wars.

Its true that the English pay for Scotland,

No its not, Scotland have been bailing out the U.K for the last 30 years.

I suppose the same arguments were around when Poland wanted to leave the Soviet Bloc.

UK, Ireland / Polish economy threatens UK [17]

Are you really serious about this subject?

The title of the thread is there to get your attention.

Again we have farmers Bu*****ing about something. The crops were picked before the Poles came here

The article is patronising to Polish people. It reads as tho the farmers are hard done by, while everyone else benefits. Imagine the Polish not wanting to pick fruit!

why don't they pay more,

Because they can get the BBC to put out stories which tell people they might not get any strawberries unless the government issue more permits for cheap labour.

Life / Beach fashion. Are Polish youth into baggy or tighter clothing? [48]

Thats just wrong - I thought it was just the greeks, italians and old men that wore speedos

It seemed to me that the favourite pastime for some Polish men on the beach, was to stand up in thier speedos ( for no particular reason ), arms folded ( so as to push out the biceps ) wearing sunglasses.

LOL

Anyone else notice this ?

UK, Ireland / Polish economy threatens UK [17]

Apparently due to the strength of the Polish economy, migrants are unwilling to take menial jobs like picking strawberries causing problems for UK farmers.

UK, Ireland / UK - the land of ultimate trial for Polish couples [13]

Did anyone noticed how many polish couples and married couples got split in UK ?

I have to say that I know more that come here as a couple, make some cash, stay here, get married and have children. Then they get a house and invite their families ( brothers, sisters etc) over. In a few years time we will have lots of second generation Scots - Polish.

But most likely the stressors in the environment

Good point.
I have to say that I do not live in a large city and I am fortunate to live in a part of the world which has a higher quality of life than most of the U.K.

Life / Gas, petrol prices in Poland [42]

half of the UK's petrol comes from Norway

Norway produces around 3.2 million barrels per day, UK ( 98% from Scotland ) produces around 2 million bbl/day.

80% of the retail price is tax.

Language / How do you say "give me a kiss" in Polish [53]

pogue mahone.

Or alternatively -
"Na pòg mo thòin"
Do not kiss my @rse.
Not that the spelling is important - its the thought that counts !

I suppose "dupa" can always be substituted for something else.

Love / I had a Polish female friend. Horror in my mind... [79]

There's nothing wrong with a young woman dating a man much older than her.

I agree, there are a lot of benefits for both.

Best of luck to you Jimbo - not that you need it.

UK, Ireland / Irish Thoughts on Britain and the British and vice versa [53]

As you know, there is an independant Republic of Ireland so I am presuming you mean Northern Ireland joining the south ?
I will not comment as I do not have strong feelings either way but I think everyone is glad the killing has stopped.
As with most things it is the violent minority that get the headlines and the peaceful majority that truly suffer.

UK, Ireland / Irish Thoughts on Britain and the British and vice versa [53]

your place in Great Britain

There are a lot of Scots who would like to see an Independant Scotland within the European Union. Many polls forecast that the Scottish Nationalist Party may form a coalition government at the next election in May 2007.

Travel / Places to visit Poland for the New Year? [30]

Did you take your daughter when you visited in 2003 ? Any thoughts from a parents perspective? I am just thinking about things like health and safety in the parks, attitudes in restaurants etc etc

Any different than U.K ?
